Newcastle’s Jonas Gutierrez is a major doubt for the weekend after suffering a shoulder injury whilst playing for Argentina in last night’s draw with Peru.
The winger clashed with Peru’s Paolo De La Haza and was subbed after just 16 minutes. Early reports suggest that Gutierrez may have suffered a dislocation which, if confirmed, would sideline the Newcastle man for a number of weeks.
There’s no official confirmation of the injury just yet but it is believed that the player is due to be examined further today. Argentina’s press officer, Andres Ventura, did attempt to play down the injury following the game but the early signs aren’t encouraging apparently.
“Jonas suffered a strong trauma to his right shoulder and he will need more medical examinations.”
