It looks as though the weekend fantasy goal drought is set to continue with news that Amr Zaki is reportedly out of tomorrow night’s clash with Everton.
Details and reports are thin on the ground, but Wigan’s rivals site has gone out on a limb and stated that he’ll miss the Monday night clash “the same injury that kept him out of the Newcastle game last weekend”. The injury in question could well have been anything from flu, a rib injury or what seems more likely – his now long-running problems with a calf injury…
The report claims that the striker will work with physios leading up to next week’s game with West Brom but regardless, Zaki will now surely suffer a vast amount of sales across the games as patience with the Egyptian reaches breaking point. It wasn’t so long ago that Zaki struck two goals at Anfield, at which point he looked indispensable – now, a few weeks on, it’s looking like his place in our fantasy lineups is under major threat due to injury and form.
Zaki has just one goal in his last four appearance for the Latics – a spot kick at Portsmouth in gameweek 11. Add to this the fact that Zaki will miss gameweek 18 due to the postponement of the United game, and the factors are weighing up against keeping faith with the striker.
Many FPL managers able to sell him for a decent profit but Zaki already suffered an FPL price drop from 7.1 to 7.0 earlier this week. Another drop would see profits fall for many, so I’m anticipating more sales in the next 24-48 hours with interest in the likes of Cisse (despite today’s performance), Fulham’s Johnson and Bent of Spurs, likely to increase.
Right now I’d advise waiting 24 hours and wait for confirmation of Zaki’s fitness before acting but keep an eye on his likelihood of another price drop here.
