Perhaps 40,000 FPL managers can’t be wrong after all. Cristiano Ronaldo walked himself off the Old Trafford pitch tonight on 65 minutes, after picking up an injury against Sunderland.
With the scoreline still at 0-0 and United about to bring on Anderson, Ronaldo appeared to kick the ball out before walking straight down the tunnel, wincing and holding his abdomen. A few minutes earlier he had suffered a clattering, attempting to get on the end of a Berbatov cut-back in the box…
The nature of the injury is unknown at this point in time – right now, I’d bet on a rib injury which could lead to a spell of absence. I’ll bring you more on that later no doubt.
What is known is that Ronaldo contributed very little on the night and disappointed the thousands who handed him the FPL armband. Once again though, I will emphasise the point – nobody has emerged from Saturday’s games as an alternative as captain, with the likes of Van Persie and Lampard (again) returning blanks.
Still, this latest twist will have provided massive relief to those FPL managers (all 40,000+ of them) who shipped out the Ronaldo man prior to what looked like a potential points bonanza. At the time of writing, United were still struggling to navigate around the Sunderland team bus parked in their goal.
