Tony Adams will spare Glen Johnson from Wednesday’s UEFA Cup tie in order to preserve him for the trip to Bolton at the weekend….

Johnson missed Sunday’s defeat to Newcastle with a knee problem that is apprently causing swelling after every match. It’s the first we’ve heard of the injury and the news will be a major concern for those fantasy managers who have invested following the full-back’s recent spurt of form. Johnson has played a far more influential role in Pompey’s attacking play in recent weeks and was certainly missed on Sunday.

At least the return at the weekend will offer some reassurance, although our past experience with Defoe’s injury tells us that we can’t fully trust in Adams’ prognosis of his player’s knocks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
