We may well have the first significant victim of the Christmas programme with the news that Villa’s Martin Laursen is a doubt for the big clash with Arsenal on Boxing Day…

According to the club’s official site this evening, Laursen experienced some discomfort in his knee following the win at West Ham on Saturday and is due to have scans this week.

“He has gone for some scans this afternoon and we are now waiting for the results. Fingers crossed, it won’t be too serious but I don’t know yet,” remarked O’Neill.

This will be a major concern for fantasy managers will Laursen owned by over a third of the managers playing the Fantasy Premier League game – indeed, he is an immensely popular signing across all the fantasy games.

Villa follow the Arsenal game with a trip to Hull. Presumably, Laursen is a doubt for this one regardless of whether he takes the field against the Gunners. Luckily the Hull game follows four days later rather than two, like most of the Premier League programme. That gives the Dane a couple more days to recover but a reaction to the Boxing Day game would still put his chances of facing Hull in doubt.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
