Steven Gerrard is winning his fitness race for Sunday’s meet with relegation-threatened Newcastle. The Liverpool skipper has been sidelined for the last three matches with a groin injury but Rafa is indicating that Gerrard will make a return this weekend…

“Steven is doing well and is training with the rest of the team”, remarked Rafa today, “I think he will be fit and available for Sunday”.

Gerrard will doubtless return in the role playing just off Torres, a position occupied by Benayoun and Kuyt in recent weeks – and to some effect. Both have been amongst the goals and in strong form so, from the Liverpool lineup that took the field at Hull last weekend, it will surely be Lucas who makes way with Benayoun keeping a starting role on the left of midfield.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
