As twittered by Greek Fan just minutes ago, it’s been announced by Arsenal that Samir Nasri has suffered a fractured fibula in the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria this morning.
The French midfielder now faces two to three months on the sidelines. Realistically, given that he’ll miss his pre-season, this could extend into the Christmas period.
For fantasy managers it at least clears some clutter in the Arsenal midfield, which could have repercussions on the role of Fabregas and Arshavin and the potential of Rosicky and Walcott earning starts. Nasri’s exact role in the Arsenal midfield was cloudy going into the season, with some suggestion that he could well be played as a holding player. Wenger does have cover in this positon, with Song, Diaby and indeed Fabregas, all options. Regardless, it’s another bitter injury blow for Arsenal, who suffered from similar setbacks for the majority of last season.
