There are numerous reports this morning raising speculation that Wayne Rooney will be rested or even ruled out of United’s forthcoming Premier League trip to Bolton at the weekend…

Rooney was seen limping heavily following the 2-1 over Liverpool at the weekend with the suggestion that he may have aggravated the knee problem that kept him out of the recent trip to Wolves. According to the Guardian today, Rooney was not working with United medical staff on Monday, quelling fears that he had suffered further complications. The Guardian seem to think that Rooney will be in contention for the weekend then. However, alternative reports go on to suggest that Rooney’s knee is a concern after each match and that Alex Ferguson could keep Rooney out fo the Reebok encounter as a precaution with the Champions League Quarter Final at Bayern Munich looming on Tuesday.

Us Fantasy Managers have been nervously anticipating United teamsheets for many weeks now with the threat of a Rooney rest always remaining a possibility. These latest reports will raise those concerns again and may even see some fantasy managers who are desperately seeking end of season differentials, to sell on the United striker as a short-term measure.

Confirmation of Rooney’s status seems unlikely but we can only wait and hope that Sir Alex throws us some clues as we near the build-up to the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
