There’s been a flood of reports over the past week or so stating that Robin Van Persie is in line to make a return to the Arsenal squad for the trip to Spurs on Wednesday but only today has this been confirmed by Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners boss will include Van Persie in his squad for the trip to their North London rivals and although the Dutchman’s level of participation is as yet unknown, Wenger has suggested that the striker is more than ready to return…

“When you know how much Robin loves football it’s been a very tough time I tell you but he has certainly come through with a different appetite and stronger as well for the future of his career so I am very happy that he is back….What is the most satisfying for me is that he looks in training like he has never been out.”

Van Persie seems most likely to start on the bench with Nicklas Bendtner again leading the attack. However, the Dane’s starting role is clearly under severe threat from Wednesday onwards. That’s likely to prompt widespread Fantasy sales in the next week.

As for Van Persie, there will be many Fantasy Managers keeping a beady on his performance at Spurs. With injuries blighting the prospects of both Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres, the Arsenal man is arriving back on our radars at just the right time to provide a natural successor. Van Persie still tops the “points-per-game” rankings in the Fantasy Premier League game and can be bought for 10.1, making him a considerably cheaper option than Rooney, Torres and Didier Drogba. Potential investors will need to assess the glass-like quality of Van Persie’s limbs first and get assurance that he will be in line to start up front at Wigan this weekend.

All eyes on White Hart Lane then; Wenger won’t be the only one wincing with every clattering challenge coming Van Persie’s way.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
