Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

If ever a game summed up a player, surely Sunday’s match between West Brom and Manchester City showed us all the two sides of City’s prodigious striker Mario Balotelli. The Italian rewarded the faith of his manager with two goals in six minutes in only his second start in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Mancini, Balotelli made the transformation from hero to villain with a straight red card in the second-half for a reckless kick during a tangle with Youssouf Mulumbu.

Todays dismissal highlighted Balotelli’s addiction to controversy and for Fantasy Football Managers was the equivalent of an espresso at the end of a drunken meal. Certainly it would have made many managers wary of bringing in a striker who, whilst has obvious talent, still has a hot headed fieriness. Temperamental players are the last thing the majority of Fantasy Football managers want or need.

This game and the display of Balotelli served to ease the pressure which had been building on manager Roberto Mancini who has been looking to stop a run in which had City lost their last three games. Mancini was clearly happy with his strikers performance;

“For me, Mario Balotelli played very well. The referee should not have given a red card, absolutely not. It’s possible we may appeal.”

That will be promising to the ears of those who are looking to bring in the fiery Italian. However it is worth remembering that frivolous appeals can often lead to extended cautions so City, and FPL’s finest will need to tread carefully.

The inclusion of the Italian saw James Milner dropped to the bench and increased the rotation risk around the Manchester City team. From an attacking perspective it is nearly impossible to determine the line-up for the Citizens and going forward investment in Manchester City midfielders and attackers, bar talismanic captain Carlos Tevez, is becoming more of a minefield. Caution and patience is recommended.

Unfortunately this is not something that 1,282 managers displayed this afternoon. That is the amount (and rising at time of writing) who knee-jerkingly transferred in Balotelli today. A large number of those did so during the game. If ever there was a test case in why you shouldn’t do your transfers early then this was it.

-Elsewhere Liverpool overcame champions Chelsea with a first half performance from Fernando Torres which reminded us all why he is so revered throughout the world. Two goals, the second a sublime curling effort, proved too much for Chelsea at Anfield and served to open up the title race. It also exposed how Chelsea struggle without their big hitters Lampard, Essien and Drogba. It was no coincidence that their performance improved in the second half with the introduction of the Ivorian, but for those who have the big striker in their team, a single point was a disappointing return.

Overall this week served up its fair share of headaches, underperformance of key players and low scores across the board. Thankfully we only have two days before the next Gameweek comes along.

Spent a little while working on this. How's this for a transfer plan...?

GW12: Coleman and Simpson for Jones and Alcaraz (2 free)
GW13: N'Zog for Nasri (at home to WBA)
GW14: Cesc for Malouda (for Tottenham... could be back to best)
GW15: Kolarov/Bosingwa in for Faye (if either hold down starts)
GW16: Robinson for Jaaskerlainen (Blackburn enter a run of good games)

Hope this doesn't throw a spanner in the works...

Wigan have 3 nice games in the next 5.
Malouda IN? ... If I didn't own Malouda he wouldn't be someone I'd bring in to be honest. Give Cesc the game at Wolves.

Cheers Andy... I know, always risky planning in advance, but I like to have something there to keep my eye on (even if I end up doing something different), it keeps me focused

King Cabbage, I think you've mistaken my meaning... I meant Fabregas in for Malouda (not out for). I currently have Malouda and Nasri, not the other way round

Would leave me with a core base of 3-3-2 who could play every week

      Elmo, Bos/Kolarov, Konch

      VDV, Nani, Cesc

      Drogba, Tevez

Then each week I would simply have to pick two out of Simpson, Coleman, Adam, N'Zogbia, Carroll, depending on fixtures

It simple wont happen....Something will crop up.

By then I reckon Coleman will be gone, somebody will be injured and another will be off form.

2 weeks tops are the length of my plans now. And they are fluid enough to still allow 2 or 3 different variations.

As RBJ says, five week transfer plans are about as pointless as......

I can't remember the rest of the 'joke', but it's bound to be stupid.

Even so, I agree with him. So many things could, and are bound to change, between now and then.

trust me dont have a plan.

i had a plan set up a few weeks ago to get fabs and vdv in and guess what i dropped dempsey last week for fabs and this week vdv got injured. Getting almohammady for alex to release a bit of money did work but just be prepared to change your plan , dont get into the thinking they are must haves. Review it every week is my advice.

To paraphrase a great man "[Fantasy] Football- bloody hell!"

The two players who high scored for me this week are the two I was extremely close to leaving out- and to top it all fabs/nasri do zip!

Ah well, I'm not the only one who's been burned, so I guess that I should be grateful my shit week was in a low scoring one...

It's always fun when Fabregas, Nasri, Drogba and Alex score a grand total of 3 points between them.

I foolishly thought that I was on for quite a good week after getting off to a relatively good start on Saturday. But captain Cesc and his merry band of idiots f*cked that up!

Fabs. I'm biting the bullet, he isnt proving himself in FPL terms this season and I really dont see it changing and I've stuck with him purely on last season's performance and everybody on here saying how vital he is and he will come good soon. We could still be saying this in the last month of the season!

Would have to be Joey IMO, guaranteed starter (well Jonas is as well now with Ben Arfa injured), a tad cheaper, I'd say more consistent as far as BPs go, and assists due to set pieces. Will probably keep the pace with him goal-wise as well. Getting him in was one of the few good calls I made pre-season!

There's no time for feelings like that in this game. Holding off getting a player for stupid reasons like "I don't like him" or "I bought him cheaper before" isn't going to get you anywhere.

I'm thinking of doing Fabregas to Malouda now, after selling Malouda for 9.9 just two weeks ago.

2x transfers still to do, i'm thinking of these transfers for the team below for GW12. Anyone benching Elmo away to Spurs? thinking of benching him and playing Konchesky.

    Samba > Alex
    Hernandez > Tevez

    Foster
    Coleman Alex Elmohamady
    Fabregas Bale Brunt Albrighton
    Drogba(C) Tevez Carroll

    Hahnemann Konchesky Dann Nani

I'm considering the same move, but whenever I bench Elmo, he bags a clean sheet/assist or bonus points.

He's away to Spurs though, anyone with sence would play by the fixtures and see that Elmo CS potential is very low.

Me too. I had Simpson as 3rd sub. Of course Spurs should score, but so may Wigan against Liverpool.

so basically play nani(who is out injured for midweek) and put elmo as first sub. Therefore he's bound to do well, and he will come on in place of nani.

I still remember whe I went to Kensington in December and I went to some store, and it was freezing. The guy asked where I was from and I told him I'm from Australia. The guy looked at me and asked in his Cockney accent "Why are you here in the cold? What are you doing here?"

I guess the winter really is bad

Totally clueless what to do with my team:

    Mignolet - Krul
Ashley Cole - Elmo - Dann - Jara - Coleman
    Nani - VdV - Fabregas - Malouda - Adam
    Hernandez - Drogba - Carroll

    0.9 in the bank.

Maybe VdV -> Cahill seeing that VdV is injured and Spurs fixtures tighten up from GW 14.

      Chamakh has to go.

      I'd recommend Carroll.

He's got two mid-table homes games coming up.

Then with the funds, you should look at getting a Spurs player.

Two homes games in a row there too.

Van Der Vaart or Bale are your two steady choices unless you fancy a wager on Pavlyuchenko.

      So in short,

      Chamakh > Carroll

      Nasri > Van Der Vaart/Bale

That's what I'd recommend. If you don't want to lose Nasri, replace one of Brunt or Nani, but balance wise, upgrading Nasri gives you the most versatility and lets you upgrade Berbatov to Tevez after the ManU game if you want to as well. Flexibility.

he doesnt want to play for arsenal, is demotivated now he has won a world cup and realizes he wont ever win anything at arsenal. he is also terrified of injuring himself further. wish i had a spare transfer to get rid.
