The Captain’s Poll this week is unsurprisingly dominated by the Double Gameweek candidates with the pull of two fixtures in a Gameweek proving as strong as ever. Where does your armband go though? Follow us in an orderly manner as we run the rule over the most polled players so far…

Nani

Pros

  • He’s selected by 39% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and is leading our poll on 45%.
  • If you’re a Nani owner, then selecting him as captain is without doubt the safety first option.
  • He’s got a proven track record that has him ranked as the top scoring midfielder in FPL and he also has the highest Points Per Game (7) that’s a nice little profit if he can return on par.
  • There’s also the small matter that he is at home to Birmingham and away to Blackpool this week – pretty obliging opponents by all accounts.

Cons

  • Is the safe option best for you? If you’ve a lead to make up, skippering Nani may not hand you the opportunity to make up ground. Are you better backing a differential or a hunch?
  • Seeing Nani skulk off on 60 minutes (his first league substitution in four months) after an anonymous performance at Spurs last week was a little worrying. Not the reassurance required ahead of a double fixture.

Wayne Rooney

Pros

  • The words Wayne Rooney and double Gameweek brings back all sorts of memories for Fantasy Managers, namely the 32 points he served up the last time a United double arrived.
  • Selected by 12% of FPL teams means he’s a “safe differential”. He’ll provide an alternative choice to the many thousands backing Nani, but doesn’t present the same kind gamble that say, a punt on Damien Duff would offer.
  • Taking penalties and the odd set-piece means that Rooney has the opportunity to pick up points even on an off day.

Cons

  • He’s only just back from injury and could lead to extra concern over his pitch time, be it an early substitution or a bold call by Alex Ferguson to give someone like Javier Hernandez a start instead.
  • His performances this season have been sporadically ranging from the Rooney of old to the Rooney of New York Red Bulls. There’s also some doubt over his role – could he drift out wide or come too deep over these two games to be effective as a Fantasy prospect?
  • The Bonus Point judges haven’t been too fond so far this season.

Fernando Torres

Pros

  • King Kenny is now in charge and the signs are that he may start to get the best out of one of the world’s most potent strikers.
  • Despite beating Liverpool to nil just a few weeks ago, the head to head of Torres vs the Wolves centre-backs shows clear positive signs. Following that, Fulham make their way to Anfield with a record of one away victory in over one and a half seasons.
  • Torres is “one of those” strikers who can 2/3/4 goals at the drop of the hat with no regard for how a game is going (he single-handedly beat Chelsea back in October). If he’s in the mood in both games, a mammoth score could follow.
  • Steven Gerrard is absent for the first fixture but Torres will have his sparring partner back for the home clash with Fulham.

Cons

  • He’s not exactly living up to expectations. Improved performances are a nice sign but Fantasy Managers need returns, not just shots on goal
  • Torres has already played more minutes this season than last, yet he only has 7 goals compared to the 18 notched in 09/10.
  • Scoring is obviously Torres’ game so it almost goes without saying, but if he doesn’t grab a goal your points returns are almost inevitably going to be low. He won’t be a big provider of assists and if he draws a blank, you can surely forget Bonus returns.
  • The petulant yellow card is always a fear with Senor Torres.

Dimitar Berbatov

Pros

  • Feast – Berbatov has already knocked in a brace, a hat-trick and even 5 goals in a game this season. He may well have another explosive burst of scoring in him.
  • His 29% FPL ownership hardly presents a differential, but Berbatov will still provide a tempting alternative to Nani backers, with just 7% of those polled so far favouring the Bulgarian.

Cons

  • Famine – he’s prone to this too. If Berbatov drew a blank across both matches, it wouldn’t come as any great surprise to even his most ardent admirers.
  • Alex Ferguson has shown he is willing to drop/rotate Berbatov if he sees fit – he even dropped him to the bench immediately after his 5 goals against Blackburn. Do you dare give the armband to Berbatov with the worry he will only to play at home to Birmingham this week and sit out the Blackpool trip?

Charlie Adam

Pros

  • Have you ever met a harvester of Bonus Points before? Charlie Adam could come away from this Gameweek with 12 points without even notching a goal or assist. The judiciaries of these awards just love the Scottish playmaker.
  • He certainly is a differential when it comes to captain selection with only 3% favour based on our polling so far.
  • He is a complete set-piece dominator be it penalty or corner. Alongside David Vaughan, he is the heartbeat of the Blackpool side and is invariably involved in attacks, be it supplying the opportunities for his forwards or firing in an audacious long range attempt himself.

Cons

  • Blackpool will be facing two of the sterner defences (Sunderland and United) this Gameweek; even Ian Holloway’s swashbuckling wave of orange may struggle to find the net and that could limit Adam’s returns.

And then those were just the leading five candidates (all double Gameweek players); the likes of Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas at home to Wigan could just as easily match or better any of these options. Carlos Tevez always threatens double fixtures, and then peripheral poll choices like DJ Campbell, Charles N’Zogbia and Nemanja Vidic could prove to be inspired picks for the rare few gamblers.

If you haven’t placed your bets yet, then head on back to the frontpage and mark your ballot, then share your views with your Fantasy Manager peers right here.

    New page repost:
I am currently worrying about my midfield.
    Normally, I play 3-4-3
    My team:
    Stockdale
    Vidic Ivanovic Coleman
    VDV Nani N’zogbia Adam
    Tevez RVP Rooney

    Substitute: Foster Albrighton Huth Foley

Are N’zogbia and Adam solid enough?

Completely fcked up last week and kept drog instead of bringing in tevez who would have been my capt
as a result, I lost a 12 point lead at the top of my league to my rival who did that exact swap
    Currently my team is :
    habsi (Gordon)
    rafael baines kyriakos (kolarov Simpson)
    vdv nani(c) nasri Adam nzogbia
    drogba varney (carroll)

now that I'm 12 points behind, I'm getting twitchy to wc
but I'm also thinking a 4 pointer might be justified for the dgw
rafaels red card fcked me over tooand I've just watched drog and kyriagos drop

    so:
    drog out for
    A Torres
    B RVP
    C Tevez
    then:
    D kyriagos out for vidic
    E rafael out for vidic

Steven Ireland is being linked strongly to Newcastle. I really really hate Steven Ireland. Steven Ireland and Robbie Keane, two of the players I really dislike both might end up in the black & white, bleurgh to it. BLEURGH!

Well it depends, on loan he could be a good signing. We need cover now Routledge has gone to QPR and bearing in mind Ben Arfa's injury. Gosling has only just recovered from a lengthy knock too so we certainly need cover.
SWP needs games to regain confidence and form, I've seen him play really well and other times he seems like a worse Aaron Lennon.

He cant cross any better than routledge or jonas but hed at least have more ideas than routledge who just runs to the touchline and kicks it out for a goalkick. Ive got something of a dilemma, I made my two free transfers early due to too much of the sauce on Saturday (ahem) and brought in RvP and Crainey but I'm not sure bout my teams Man U coverage now and wish I had brought in Berb. Anyways it looks like this now
    Foster (Krul)
    Kolarov Crainey Kyrgiakos (Rafael) (Jara)
    Adam Nani VdV Fab (Cleverley)
    RvP Torres Varney

I have had a massive decline in recent weeks so need a pretty big week and cant decide whether to leave my team as that or WC it? The WC would mean probably having to give up VdV for Berb as well although I could always bring him back next week or even risk it nd do it for the next home game. Any advice would be much appreciated

I'm contemplating benching VDV this week as I'm packed with DGW players. I have Berb.

Berb DGW would hopefully bring more points than VDV away at Newcastle, - 4 points, IMO.

What are your thoughts with waiting to use WC?

Yeah I did mine, I missed a trick by leaving Elmander in, I think. I used it hastily as I'm well off the pace in my league, my aim was to fill up on this DGW and try and close some ground on the leaders. I'm now looking at a 4 point hit getting rid of Rafael / Kolarov for Kelly in order to fund Elmander for RVP. D'oh!

Ok, I've been trying to decide all week.

Do I make a straight transfer Tevez out for Torres, or take a 4 point hit transferring Rafeal / Kolarov and Elmander out, and bringing in Kelly and RVP.

The 4 point hit isn't too big a concern as I'm 70 behind the leader of my league and 40 ahead of the chasing pack!!!

Do you think doubling up on Rooney & Tevez worth a 4 point hit taking Varney out?

What about Konchesky out for Kelly, replacing Kolarov?

Definitely get rid of Konchesky. Liverpool are listening to offers for him, according to Sky Sports, so it makes him even less likely to play any part this GW. Kelly should be a decent option, but be prepared for him to only play once this GW.

I got 4 injuries got no choice but to play Wildcard but keeping Tevez in with Torres and upgrading to Fabregas too is almost impossible.

yea its just difficult trying to predict whether DJ will score more points over 2 games than say VDV in 1 away to newc?

It's always going to be a gamble but you have to look at the relative quality of the player and their team. VDV has done really well away from home and has the potential to go mad in one game.. DJ unlikely to repeat his feat of last DGW by scoring in both. B'Pool have two tough matches and are poor at home.

That said, you might aswell toss a coin!

Sorry for yet another RMT folks but have re-jigged the team I thought I'd settled on.. and have come up with this (I am on WC):

    Stockdale (Foster)
    Evra, Kelly, Coleman (Walker, Djourou)
    Nani, VDV, Fabregas, N'Zogbia, Adam
    Torres, Rooney (Odemwingie)

0.0 in the bank, plan on using free transfers to stock up on GW27 doublers, and thereafter use my original wildcard to balance the team for the rest of the season.

Would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks

I was going to say you are mad for thinking about benching one of thoes.. but then I looked at your team. I think I would bench Nasri cause Fab/RVP and Nasri is a lot of eggs in one basket and you never know, maybe Wenger will give someone else a chance after Nasri starting last night. unlikely tho!
you should have a great week no matter what

Captain Nani if you don't have to catch up, captain RVP/Berbs if you do, if it is the latter, I am not making that decision for you!
