Just the one fixture this evening as the Dugout Discussion opens and the gameweek winds down to a close before the long, dark and cold days of the dreaded FA Cup. Ian Holloway’s Blackpool and playing host to Carlo Ancelotti’s men this evening.

With his talismanic captain, as well as his lead striker, absent through suspension there is a whole host of changes from the “expected” Blackpool side – most notably a front three of loanees Jason Puncheon and James Beattie alongside Andy Reid. Chelsea, meanwhile, bring in Jose Bosingwa for Branislav Ivanovic as David Luiz shakes off a knock while Didier Drogba and Yuri Zhirkov come in for Florent Malouda and Nicolas. The line-ups in full are…

Blackpool XI: Kingson; Eardley, Evatt, Baptiste, Crainey; Vaughan, Carney, Southern; Puncheon, Reid, Beattie

Chelsea XI: Cech; Bosingwa, Luiz, Tery, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Zhirkov; Drogba, Torres

The Dugout Discussion will take us through this fixture while we ponder if Fernando Torres can get his first shot on target in the league for Chelsea or if Andy Reid can put down that sandwich for just long enough to fill his captain’s boots with something other than gravy.

Is it really that hard to stay on your man at a corner? If you get beaten in the air, fine, but don't give Terry a free header on the 6 yard line...

Just checked it up, if Rooney wins goal of the season, then he is the first player to win it 3 times.
John Aldridge and Bergkamp along with Rooney have won it twice.

Given that it looks like he's a Radiohead fan, it's unlikely that he reads the Sun. Would be a bit like an anti-capitalist activist popping into Macdonalds to tuck into a Big Mac on his way to a demonstration.

Nope, definitely not a Sun reader! Dot know what gave that impression... Didn't mean to sound disrespectful to 'smaller' teams or anything. I just mean the teams who would be expected to challenge for the league are playing poorly.

Blackpool getting too much space in behind our midfield. Don't like playing with just the two in the middle of the park, especially when one of them contributes nothing defensively, despite playing fairly deep!

    BRING BACK 4-3-3!!!!!

      +1

Adam gets all the praise, but Vaughan is every bit as good as him. Does more than his fair share defensively too, unlike the fat man.

I've always thought that actually. Adam gets all the credit, but Vaughan is quite a good passer, and is better defensively than Adam (which isn't too difficult).

Your responses are virtually identical. Good job.

Yeah had a check on this yesterday, and Vaughan actually tops successful tackles this season, and he's third in loose ball recoveries.

I know it depends on the gameweek and available players but what is everyones preferred formation they try to play in FPL?

I try and use 3-4-3 and have been for past 3 seasons but wonder if anyone has had good results with defense heavy formation over the seasons.

Probably a pointless question but just curious.

Midfielders generally score more so I favour a 3-5-2 but it's not carved in stone.

I almost always go with three defenders, only. They're high-risk, low reward, for the most part.

Whether I go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 varies, though.

Got to play 5 in midfield every week. Across the board they are normally the biggest points scorers.
