Just the one fixture this evening as the Dugout Discussion opens and the gameweek winds down to a close before the long, dark and cold days of the dreaded FA Cup. Ian Holloway’s Blackpool and playing host to Carlo Ancelotti’s men this evening.

With his talismanic captain, as well as his lead striker, absent through suspension there is a whole host of changes from the “expected” Blackpool side – most notably a front three of loanees Jason Puncheon and James Beattie alongside Andy Reid. Chelsea, meanwhile, bring in Jose Bosingwa for Branislav Ivanovic as David Luiz shakes off a knock while Didier Drogba and Yuri Zhirkov come in for Florent Malouda and Nicolas. The line-ups in full are…

Blackpool XI: Kingson; Eardley, Evatt, Baptiste, Crainey; Vaughan, Carney, Southern; Puncheon, Reid, Beattie

Chelsea XI: Cech; Bosingwa, Luiz, Tery, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Zhirkov; Drogba, Torres

The Dugout Discussion will take us through this fixture while we ponder if Fernando Torres can get his first shot on target in the league for Chelsea or if Andy Reid can put down that sandwich for just long enough to fill his captain’s boots with something other than gravy.

WHy the fook is Kalou getting the love today?

He just happened to come on when Chelsea lucked out massively to get that soft penalty and then played one nice pass, he was equally much responsible for Chelsea falling apart in the last 10 minutes as he was for them getting those two goals.

Chelsea went more 433 with Kalou and it helped them win more possession in the middle of the park and to free up Frank to pick and choose his forward runs.

Mate I wouldn't put it past them!

How on earth is he meant to get involved in the games if he doesn't get any service. All our play comes from the wing and yet we have no-one that can cross a ball. He isn't a Messi or Ronaldo where he's going to go wandering to find the ball.

Agreed. Ramires is an excellent player, and whilst he does a decent job out there, he just isn't a winger. Zhirkov was a bloody embarrassment too!

Torres spent virtually the whole of the second half in acres of space and was barely passed to once. That said, I'd be astonished if there was anything in this conspiracy talk!

There's something odd going on. Malouda and Kalou were well placed to simple roll the ball to Torres in the box near the end, and completely blanked him. Now that's not unusual for selfish playes, but you always see the beter placed player have a benny for not being played in. Torres did nothing.

I can't help but think Drogba feigned his injury too, as a passing shot at Ancelotti. He was limping yet according to reports caught a knee above his hip which was too painful to play on.

Drogba is a player that needs to feel like he's the main man at a club. After all th goals he's contributed, he probably feels like he's being tossed aside now that he's nearing the end of his shelf life. That's very dangerous for the dressing room and the club.

Sounds paranoia, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's something more to this.

Agree with a lot of this. How often do you actually see players go off with impact injuries like Drogba did? Barely ever.

The lack of passing to Torres is even more confusing when you consider that it's so blindingly obvious he needs a goal. You'd have thought that at 3-0 up against a team like Blackpool, the team would have been trying as hard as possible to engineer a chance for Torres, but they just didn't.

I do think there is a "you played for Liverpool so sort yourself out" type of vibe going on.

The fact that we're all talking about it says there's something in it.

Perhaps it's nothing to do with Torres, and it's just - as Twisted Saltergater suggests - an ego thing from Drogba. I bet he hates that Torres is now the main frontman at the club.

But we will hear it in the papers now for another week that "Torres flopped" when there is clearly more to it.

All boils down to the fact that Torres isn't getting service from his new teammates and it needs to be rectified sharpish.

Ancelotti must be going around in circles - Anelka is shite v United, so is Torres and Drogba comes on and makes a difference.

Tonight Drogba is shite from the start, Torres is shite again and Kalou comes on to add some impetus.

Conclusion: Torres is shite; Drogba and Kalou are OK coming of the bench; Anelka sometimes plays well from the start... 🙂 Good luck with finding the formation that accomodates Drogs, Lamps, Anelka and Drogba...

not sure if mentioned already as only just come in and looked at match report but looking at the bonus points - i see a pattern mistake.

Move Vaughan 1 bonus point down 3 places gives you Puncheon and do the same with cech's 2 --move down 3 spots you get terry.

I reckon they have been inputted incorrectly and will be changed tomorrow morning.

VDV, Arteta, Young, Nani and Nasri

On paper pretty good, this gameweek pretty shite however IF they are all fit for next gameweek they should score well. I think in the near future Young and Arteta will probably go for Lampard and a cheapie.

Dont like Young in there. Or tevez with his fixtures.

Yeah, Young is disposable. Tevez is a keeper as I have him at 10.4 but you need a bit of patience with him even through the tough spells.
