Just the one fixture this evening as the Dugout Discussion opens and the gameweek winds down to a close before the long, dark and cold days of the dreaded FA Cup. Ian Holloway’s Blackpool and playing host to Carlo Ancelotti’s men this evening.

With his talismanic captain, as well as his lead striker, absent through suspension there is a whole host of changes from the “expected” Blackpool side – most notably a front three of loanees Jason Puncheon and James Beattie alongside Andy Reid. Chelsea, meanwhile, bring in Jose Bosingwa for Branislav Ivanovic as David Luiz shakes off a knock while Didier Drogba and Yuri Zhirkov come in for Florent Malouda and Nicolas. The line-ups in full are…

Blackpool XI: Kingson; Eardley, Evatt, Baptiste, Crainey; Vaughan, Carney, Southern; Puncheon, Reid, Beattie

Chelsea XI: Cech; Bosingwa, Luiz, Tery, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Zhirkov; Drogba, Torres

The Dugout Discussion will take us through this fixture while we ponder if Fernando Torres can get his first shot on target in the league for Chelsea or if Andy Reid can put down that sandwich for just long enough to fill his captain’s boots with something other than gravy.

Watching Chelsea is soooo boring. I would be very happy if Bosingwa never played for us again. I genuinely think that he did not do 1 good thing all game, lost the ball countless times, can't defend and was completely at fault for the goal. Get Ivan back immediately.

Malouda is so selfish, Drogba performance was so awful I won't even go into. I know we won but my God that was abysmal.

Bosingwa was a complete disagree for the last five minutes. Everything Blackpool created came from his flank, and that goes for the whole game.

Perhaps the entire Chelsea team hates Torres, because no one ever passes to him.

He wasn't great, but didn't exactly do anything wrong. He wasn't giving the ball away the whole time like Kalou, Zhirkov and Drogba did. Genuinely, Torres barely received a pass to him all game, all the Chelsea fans on twitter are commenting on it, it's not just me.

Havent watched Reid for the best part of a decade he most certainly does. When he first started playing for Ireland Liam Brady was comparing him to himself. Fairly big praise.

He has wasted alot of his career due to his lack of drive and attitude. In fits at Forest, Spurs and Sunderland he has been excellent

Easily as good as Adam if not better when of if he is ever fit.

So Kingson took a big knock early on and clearly signalled for substitution after injuring himself around the 60th minute. Great idea by Holloway to keep him on for some more then so he could do absolutely nothing as Chelsea instantly scored two.

Anelka would have torn it up with all the space that Blackpool leave in behind the defence, really annoyed that he didn't start.

....and then even more annoyed when he seemed to refuse to come on after Drogba got 'injured'. Perhaps that wasn't the case but it sure as hell looked like it.

Exactly if the league has shown us anything this year is that anyone can beat anyone.

I still think its alot poorer than years gone by.

Also think if RVP was fit all year and Fabs to a lesser extinct Arsenal would be good few points clear. Vermalen doesnt really figure as Djorou has been excellent since he came in

I agree with you on that, BUT I don't think it's that straightforward.. what if Ferdinand had been fit all year, we wouldn't have dropped so many points early on, and what about Valencia, we've really missed him this year, Rooney has in particular

The difference RVP makes to Arsenal is not comparable to Ferdinand who has not missed as many games.

My bad. But it looked on first viewing you didnt write the rest of the sentence about rooney being injured.

Again my bad. And valencia has no magic wand with Rooney.Just last year he was the man to profit given the system used against the weaker teams. It would be Berbatov scoring at any rate this given the roles.

                    Maybe it wasn't clear.

Still, the original point was about the team missing Valencia, at times we've been left with one winger, and whatever Obertan and Bebe are. I know berb and Rooney have swapped roles etc. but with valencia, Rooney knows when the ball will go in the box meaning Rooney can commit early and will continue to make runs into the box whereas with nani, he sometimes doesn't bother getting in there as he doesn't expect the cross. (If this seems as if I'm trying to defend Rooney, missing Valencia etc., believe me I'm not)

Hmmmmmmmm- not sure how relevant that argument is.

RVP/Fabs both have long-term problems and were always going to be out for significant periods of time this season.

That last statement is pure fiction. RVP has been at Arsenal for 7 seasons and played a maximum of 28 league games.

Also just maybe the league is stronger because there are less gimmes.

It still doesnt take away from the fact he is amongst the very best players when fit

No way i beleive the league is better.
Certain teams are better now yes - spurs city notable

But 3 years ago the top teams were much much better.

The standard of Chelsea, United and Liverpool 3 years ago was far ahead of what they have now. Arsenal have made a small bit of progress.

The smaller teams this year are better but the overall strength of the league for me (for which i use the top teams ability is far down)

                  You're changing the argument now.

Owen Hargreaves is exactly the midfielder United are missing, WHEN FIT.

RVP has only scored 50 goals in the Prem. Proves unfit he has been his entire Arsenal career. Where is the decent back up striker?

After the morose feeling of this weekend tonight is such a wonderful feeling.

It hurt seeing everyone with decent scores all weekend and waiting for my captain to play.
      Well worth the wait now!

Kept the ball very, very well. Ask Barry Ferguson if not passing to the opposition is the best way to get BPs.

I thought he played well but then I don't expect Chelsea to win every game 8-0.

    My predicted BAPS:

    Lampard 3
    Terry 2
    Essien 1

Obviously, all dependent on how many large whiskeys the BAP judges down before throwing darts, whilst blindfolded.
