There are injury fears surrounding Evertonโ€™s Mikel Arteta after the Spanish playmaker was forced off after just seven minutes of tonightโ€™s 1-1 draw with Birmingham at Goodison.

Early reports suggest that Arteta has suffered a hamstring injury โ€“ the player was seen being assisted off the field by two Everton officials, clutching his right hamstring. Details remain scarce on the severity of the injury but David Moyes offered us this post-match…

“It looks like a hamstring injury. It’s too early to say – I’m not sure but I’m guessing he will be out for a few weeks.”

Arteta came into tonightโ€™s game off the back of one of his most profitable Fantasy performances at Newcastle on Saturday, in what has been a hugely disappointing season to this point. All the talk this week from the Everton camp billed the playmaker as nearing his best after his influential display in the 2-1 win. This setback could come as a major blow then, should it result in a spell on the sidelines.

In Fantasy terms it would certainly come as a major disappointment to the 92,000 Fantasy Premier League managers who brought in Arteta ahead of his double fixture in gameweek 29.

The Toffees are next in action on March 19 for the gameweek 30 fixture with Fulham at Goodison; thatโ€™s a match that would promise potential returns for Arteta but, right now, he must be considered a major doubt for that game.

There will hopefully be further comment from the Everton camp in the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'll keep saying what I said when I got him: he is the exact kind of striker a club like Birmingham could use. A big tall guy to win headers downfield. The games before the DGW he was causing problems for every defense he faced.

As a Spurs fan I can tell you Peter Crouch is 'just tall.' Zigic isn't.

    MY TFPL cup tie...

We both got 36, as well as taking 4 point hits so we're both level on 32. I asked on the site and they said it's decided on goals scored then goals conceded. Neither of our teams could manage a goal! His side conceded 10 while mine conceded 4.

Just realise this is pretty much a pointless post but it's typed now!

From the reporting, it does seem to be fairly clear that something has happened which shouldn't have. But I'm not sure there'll be a points deduction- if there is, really surprised if it's one to knock you off the top.

Kind of ironic that Warnock is involved on the other side, having been at Sheffield Utd for Tevez.

Where would he play in your 4-5-1? Unless you drop Berba, you can't play both Rooney and Pastore. I hope you don't get him, i'd hate to have to sell him on Football Manager.

                Pastore
                Anderson Fletcher
                Evra Rio Vidic Rafael

Something like that. So yeah, drop berba, or Rotate Berba, Roonpig and Hernandez in the striking role.

Woa woa woa. We didn't play 442 in 2008 where we (in my opinion) played the best football i've ever seen us play!

Chelsea also proved you can play 433 with genuine width in the Jose days and the nail in the coffin, we always beat the goons playing 433!

We did most of the time, Tevez played up front with Rooney for most of the league games. It was only towards the end of the season when we were going for the champions league that we altered formation.

Also if United had a genuine world class box to box midfielder, then we would play 4-4-2 against Arsenal too.

Mmm yeah actually SF played quite a few different formations during that season, but i'd still argue 433 with a fluid front 3 of rooney tevez and ronaldo was the most consistent:

A lot of the time 4-3-3 was used to accommodate Ronaldo, even pushing him into the strikers role on occassion.

The player we should go for if he's available is Schweinsteiger.

Pastore likes to roam a bit. To accomodate him, the team would need to be built around him, much like Ronaldo. An actual Scholes replacement who can create from deep is probably better for the team, as well as a top holding midfielder.

I took it upon myself to watch 10 minute highlights of about 5/6 Palermo matches yesterday, (the highlights were actually Pastore highlights)

I was very impressed, excellent passer. Doubt he could play in a 4-4-2 system though. Don't know about 40 million either.

Can't see Fergie signing Modric tbh or any creative midfielder, it would force him to play 3 central midfielders unless he can somehow get a world class box to box man.
Veron was probably the last time he signed one and that didn't work out.

Well, yeah he's very good and the hype is high now so he will cost, although he's having a dip of form right now. Knowing the chairman I think he will go this summer but he will want a big offer, and there are rumours about Real, Barça and a lot of teams who want him.
By the way he's not a player for a 4-4-2, he's an advanced midfielder who plays behind the striker most of the time.

Fair point PFOR but think what we did with a certain 18 year old Ronaldo. Agreed though, we need a ready made Scholes and Giggs replacement asap so that's why there might actually be something in the Pastore rumours.

....who'll probably score negative points against NZ. His medium pacer trundlers could get destroyed by any one of McCullum/Ryder/Taylor/Styris/Oram/Nathan McMullum, and then he'll inevitably score less than 10 after playing some moronic shot.

the great waters. i'm guessing he's there purely to free up funds and to eat up one of the seemingly pointless batting spots?
for the quarters i reckon its worth picking 4 batsmen you think will make the semis and just using the 10 tansfers on bowlers

He was initially there just to have a captain for the Kenya-Canada game, but then I realised that was a dreadful idea! So yeah, he's only there to free up funds, batsmen are pretty much a waste of time in this game.

That plan sounds sensible, although I haven't properly looked into a strategy for the knock-out stages.

Hopefully you can still select players from eliminated sides, unlike in the World Cup fantasy, as I reckon use a slot on a cheapie like Waters will be worthwhile to afford as many big guns as possible.

they may get rid of the players on the transfer page list (e.g they've already got rid of kp) so you might have to keep him in. even with unlimited transfers if you get rid, confim then change your mind you may not be able to get him back.

            Paraguayan horse:

In sports, a competitor/team that is off to a pretty good start in a race/league, usually taking the lead, but will most likely lose strenght and slowly drop positions in the table mid-way through, to finish in an average position. Term originated in Brazil and usually applied to football teams.

            Well done Db, good reference.

Looks like 453 people auto qualified for the FPL Open. You need a rank at least of 51,126 to auto-qualify. Will work out the remaining 59 spots in the morning.

Arteta out for a few weeks? oh dear, well I may just take a 4 point hit to bring in Lampard to replace him.

Only 228 left in the Millionaire Club before hits. 106 didn't make the safety score of 37.

the worst thing is if i hadn't taken no hits, instead of an 8er, i'd still be in the millionaire club

Quick question, when do point deductions from transfers come into effect, the start of the gameweek or the end?
