According to quotes from Louis Saha, his season in Everton colours could well be over. The Everton striker was forced off late on against Fulham with an ankle injury on Saturday, having notched his tenth goal of the season in the second-half. That was his ninth strike since the turn of the year. Once again however, Saha’s momentum appears to have hit the skids thanks to an injury setback – the Frenchman landed awkwardly while contesting an aerial ball in the 2-1 win; the fear is that he may have damaged ankle ligaments.

Saha is apparently due to have scans on Friday but, in an interview with L’Equipe, the striker was more than a little pessimistic on his prospects…

“I am on crutches at the moment…I am not well. Am I going to be out for days, weeks, months? I do not know. But it will be difficult to play again by the end of the season.”

Everton have yet to officially confirm the prognosis but we should expect more information by tomorrow. If Saha is indeed sidelined, it will leave David Moyes with just Jermaine Beckford available as a recognised striker. With Marouane Fellaini already out for the rest of the season and Mikel Arteta reportedly out until mid-April, Moyes’ resources are looking badly stretched.

For us Fantasy Managers the news of Saha’s absence will likely promote Tim Cahill in our thinking. The Aussie has himself only just returned from his own ankle problems but, having regained fitness, he will now likely face the burden of being asked to score the goals to continue Everton’s ascent up the table.

Moyes has already turned to Cahill to lead his attack earlier in the season. The Fantasy Premier League midfielder, priced at 8.9, has registered 9 goals and 4 assists to this point but has not completed 90 minutes since gameweek 27 – his last league goal was way back in December in the gameweek 18 win at Man City . Even so, the prospect of Cahill leading the line for the Toffees will spark further interest from Fantasy Managers, particularly as Everton are currently the league’s form side.

David Moyes’ outfit have won 4 of the last 6, scoring 12 goals in the process. Everton’s immediate run of opponents suggests that further returns could be in the offing – they take on a beleaguered Aston Villa in gameweek 31, followed by a trip to Wolves and another Goodison clash with Blackburn in gameweek 33. Goals will be expected to arrive across those three matches, with Cahill seemingly best placed to be amongst them.

Cahill is currently away with the Socceroos for their friendly in Germany on March 29. Fantasy Managers will want to see him return intact and in a timely manner in order to consider him for gameweek 31.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

lol, yes how dare i disagree with your awful post. Let me explain fully before you call me a 'c*nt' again. Great work on that btw. Utd are investing in brazilian youth because they can't afford buying star players anymore due to glazer debt. By your definition Utd investing time and money in Pogba, Macheda and the Da Silva twins a few years back should have stunted the progress of Welbeck, Cleverley, Morrison, Tunnicliff etc etc etc. I didn't, because the youth policy invests in kids from anywhere in the world, and certainly the most in kids from the UK. Hence, your post IS nonsense. Try supporting your Chill Pill-esq views/posts about Utd without resorting to mindless playground insults. Cheers.

I don't have ChillPill views about Man Utd. Believe what you will, I honestly couldn't care less.
I simply believe that the number of foreign players in the Premiership has had a detrimental effect on the national teams. The last time we were good was 1996, prior to that we were a strong side. Now we don't compete with any hope of winning. I believe that the end of the 3 foreigner rule in the late 80's is the cause of the deterioration.
You take everything about Man Utd as a personal insult, which is frankly sad. I do hope you'll stop responding to my posts and I'll extend you the same courtesy, I have no interest any more in what you have to say and I don't think another long petty argument does either of us or the site any good.

I appreciate that this thread could really do without me piping up, but I don't agree with any of that Attila.

The reason that England aren't any good is because the players are so vastly technically inferior to many international sides, and that has little - if anything - to do with clubs investing in youth players from abroad.

Well it just seems to me that we have relatively dropped a helluva lot in ability since the 2000's though admittedly 1994 was pretty shabby too. I see that as more a result of poor management though.

I don't know why is it only United's responsibility to invest in english youth and no one else. Infact in the last 20 years we have produced more england internationals than any other club give or take. I will definitely say that in the last decade the english players have suffered due to investment in foreign players by all the clubs in which united are definitely not the main culprits. look at arsenal, chelsea or liverpool how many internationals have they produced in the last decade, only a handful at best. United still are investing albeit less but they still are giving young englsih players a chance to come through, you cannot deny that whether they are good enough to break in and go to have international careers that's a different matter altogether where the technical inability comes in. But surely we are not the only one and should not have fingers pointed at us.

Utd haven't "produced" any England internationals since the likes of neville/scholes. Unless you consider paying 10-30 million pounds for already established internationals "producing"

To be honest, recruiting youth is getting a bit ridiculous now and yes, i include Arsenal in that. It's come to a point now where it's hampering more & more careers. Lupoli for example, he was the leading scorer in the Italian youth division, even better then Rossi. His potential was clear to see but a couple of bad loan & permanent moves and his career has been ruined.

When Denilson first joined arsenal he looked like a gem, someone who could come in for Fabregas. But his whole game has changed, position, style etc.. and he's now pretty poor.

Macheda, Tosic, Obertan, Pacheco are a few others who came with hype and probably would have fulfilled it if they stayed where they were for longer.

Is it time to give up on Pacheco, i still think he has it?

While i agree with what your saying...it is getting ridiculous, no doubt agueros son will be signed soo ndue to the lineage

BUT. in logical thinking...should this increased competition not mean that those that make it through are of an even higher standard as they faced off waves and waves of competition to make it to the top, which could be why we have two of the best footballers in a LONG time , messi and ronaldo, right here, right now!

Yeah, i agree. I think to a certain extent the media and fans use the term wonderkid far too often. In reality potential is nothing, it's only important if they fulfill their potential and play at the highest level. A tiny potential of youth players will do that, but it's still more economical than spunking 30m+ wages on one player.

He was great last season -up until he faked that injury, shamefully! Looked as if he had bet.

He's a holding midfielder, and isn't expected to do anything that Cesc does really. His problem in my opinion is that Song is much better than him at the moment and keeps getting better.

If I had to take either Denilson or Jack...It would be very close.

Quite good for France, and only 19-20. Certainly made more of an impact than Rodwell. No real holding mids that stand out as possible options. Summer should be interesting/frustrating.

Rodwell's injuries are a concern, considering how young he is.

Budget midpark coming up to make way for Lampy:

O Hara Adam Nani Nasri Lampard

Cahill hasn't returned to any semblance of form as yet and Young looks like his time is up. VDV could be a problem if he returns fit again. Now who else is there?

    Front 3

It's hard to look beyond Rooney and RVP. The question is the 3rd forward:

Obviously cheap and nasty. So...find it hard to bring in Wellback. Never sure about rotation with him.
Hoilet plays in a poor team; Carroll has the potential but not the fix and so that leaves me stuck with poor old Oddbod.

    *sigh*

    What's best for this week?

    (A) Arteta -> Adam
    (B) Arteta & Berbatov -> Lampard & Beckford (4 points)
    (C) Arteta & Berbatov -> Lampard & Welbeck (4 points)

Also to consider is that I'm 46 points behind my main rival and he has Adam of the above 3...

    Squad is

    Foster
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov
    Nani, VDV, Nasri, A Young
    RVP, Berba, Zigic
    Subs: Stockdale, Kelly, Djourou, Arteta

It's tough. As you saw last week most thought(Me included) Adam was not worth it!

Him having Dempsey might hurt you vs Blackpool. Personally I think you need to big on a differential.

I was going to suggest Lampard. With his funds he wont be able to bring Lampard next week without a hit. Then I realised he has only played 1 WC...

Well of course. You are a Jedi apprentice.

When a defender is averaging nearly 7 pts a game with a fixture list to die for then I guess it's time to invest.

The rest are all suitably ubercheap.

Same thing happened to the West Indies too.

I would argue that the West Indies of the 70's and early 80's were the best side ever. Compared to that team the last 10 years or so they've been a joke, a bit like Man Utd turning into Sheffield Wednesday or some team similar.

                  It happens.

Blank in 33 - if that's rescheduled then he's probably the number one cheap option ahead of Welbeck for me.

I think so, but tight between DJ and Welbeck considering Welbeck hasn't played. I think Welbck has more potential though.

Cant automatically dump Fwd for Mid, are you saying I should downgrade my new Fwd and get Lampard instead of Ramires? If so any ideas on Fwd?

Welbeck is the standard FFScout solution to that particular problem. But you do need RVP - potentially a very profitable few gameweeks to come for him: BLA blp LIV tot

Ramires is a big gamble. How hard would it be to get Lamps? Personally I woud be terrified going into 33 without Lamps. Every man and his dog will have him captained. That will be the story of the gameweek, and people without him will either look like idiots or geniuses after.

I think it'll be split between Luiz, Van Persie and Lamps as to who will be captain choice in gw33.

There will prob be a lot of people who may need to make up ground in their mini leagues who'll gamble on Luiz getting 2 cleanies, a goal and some bonuses so I don't think it'll be a landslide for Lamps.

That said, I'll be captaining Frank.

True, Luiz is a genuine option. Always takes balls to give the armband to a defender though 😛

RVP does have a double but you'd have to be mental not to captain a Chelsea player with thir 2 fixtures.

I don't like Arsenal's dgw at all. I don't see many goals against Liverpool and Spurs. Can't see any cleanies either regardless of who they put in goal out of Lehman or Almunia.

Chelsea by far the best choice for this double.

Morning chaps, can i get some early advice. My team is in my user name link.

I'd like to try and not take a point hit this week. What would you do with my team? I was thinking Schezny-->Foster.

    Any other comments much appreciated.

You are quite well set up for next week. Your suggested transfer is good with Foster's double coming up, but you never know with Begovic, Stoke will keep things tight and he has racked up the save points this season.

What's your plan for the rest of your team for GW 33? Might be worth saving the transfer.

So you think it might be worth a punt Begovic vs Chelsea at home?

For GW 33 tempted to go for 3 Chelsea players, Lamps and Luiz obvious options but who best for the third another defender or Ramires/Essien?

Ramires could be a differential and I assume more people would go for 2 defenders if targeting a trio.
I think I'll go Luiz & Lampard and was sort of wondering about a punt on Anelka (yeah I know) to try something different 🙂 but I may just follow the masses

Tevez is a difficult one. If his recent loss of form was due to his injury and he's now saying he's recovered then he's still a good fantasy option.

Also has a dgw in 36 I think, although that's some time away.

Other than Van Persie there are no nailed on big hitters in the strikers dept at the moment.

Rooney, Torres, Tevez and Drogs are all maddeningly inconsistent at the moment for £11.5m plus strikers.

I sold Tevez last week for Van Persie and I'm thinking of getting him back for Bent. If I had him now and already had Van Persie I'm not sure I'd sell him.

Don't think that any other replacement out there is that much better a prospect, tbh.

if you go for 45mill, then you cant really play the fantasy game though because you cannot change your picks for the rest of the season barring injuries. whats the point in that!
