Edin Dzeko does a β€œTorres” at Ewood Park, as the big-money January signing finally breaks his Premier League scoring duck to put Man City firmly in the driving seat for fourth spot. Roberto Mancini’s side not only win on the road for the first time in 2011, they chalk up an impressive fifteenth clean sheet of the season in a fairly routine victory. Blackburn’s winless run stretches to ten games as the threat of relegation looms larger by the week for Steve Kean’s hopelessly out of form side. Here’s the notes from gameweek 34’s final match…

No Mistake From Roberto
After his side’s 3-0 mauling at Anfield in their last league match, Roberto Mancini admitted he had β€œmade mistakesβ€œ. The Man City boss failed to elaborate but it’s a fair to assume he was alluding to the decision to bench both David Silva and Nigel De Jong. Mancini re-installed the pair to City’s starting XI for the Blackburn trip, with Yaya Toure moved into an attacking midfield role again as a result of De Jong’s return.

Mario Balotelli led the line for City, with Dzeko -a starter at Liverpool- used as a sub instead, though the latter’s goal will give Mancini food for thought in the continued absence of Carlos Tevez, particularly as Balotelli’s adaptability meaning he could be moved out wide in a role behind the Bosnian for the upcoming gameweeks.

Dzeko was, not surprisingly, hugely relieved following his first league goal…

“I think it is a new beginning for me…I have confidence in myself but sometimes it is difficult. I am not the first one that didn’t make the best of a move. I know in future there will be much better games for me.”

Mancini will surely look to harness Dzeko’s newfound confidence and a start at home to West Ham next looks a strong possibility.

Fluid in Midfield
Adam Johnson made his third consecutive start as Mancini set the team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Johnson and David Silva were given license to roam; the pair swapped wings throughout, and their movement created plenty of problems for Blackburn. Silva, in particular, was at the hub of everything good about City’s play and quite rightly picked up the 3 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points, though whether he keep the dubious assist is another matter altogether.

It was interesting to note that Johnson was the one who made way for Dzeko in the second half, as Balotelli switched to wide left. City will undoubtedly be subject to plenty transfers-in over the next few days, with a home game against West Ham this upcoming weekend following by a double gameweek (eve & TOT), and their midfield will come under the microscope in more detail in an article later this week on these pages.

Solid at the Back
Joe Hart’s allayed fears of a back injury to start between the sticks for City and enjoyed a fairly comfortable evening as the City defence kept Blackburn at arms length. City’s clean sheet justified Hart’s position at the top of our Watchlist rankings, while Scout Pick Aleksandar Kolarov also fetched defensive returns. With West Ham and Stoke due to visit Eastlands, plus the double fixture in gameweek 36, City’s back five remain strong investment options. Kolarov still looks the best route to Fantasy points given his attacking potential, although the return from injury of Micah Richards will give Mancini the option to switch Pablo Zabaleta to the left to threaten the Serb’s starting role.

Kean is Struggling
Kean’s stint as Blackburn boss may have got off to a positive start -three wins in the first seven games- but that winning habit is long gone. It’s four points from a possible thirty now and the club’s owners must surely be having second thoughts over the shock decision to sack Sam Allardyce back in December, when the club were sitting in 13th position.

One point off the drop zone with four games to go and with the club’s most impressive player of late -David β€œJunior” Hoilett- still sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Kean needs his players to respond quickly, before itβ€˜s too late. Blackburn look devoid of any real spark right now and have scored just one goal in their last four games. With their remaining fixtures reading (BOL, whm, MUN, wol), the Lancashire outfit’s chances of survival don’t look the great.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He has to gamble big tho! hes made 3 subs last 3 weeks which is a little crazy too. I went from having a worse team n a 16point lead to a better team n a 50point lead over the course.

Spurs have a dodgy defence so there is some logic. I dunno, rooney looks well out of sorts so i'm tempted to ship him too but for either drogba or suarez.

Its not just that win tho Mac. Its about other perfromances and the strong belief he is due one.

I didn't understand the demspey love n mistakenly shoved him in my team to safeguard. Up to u whether u gamble on it.

He is a top player and can see him scoring this week for sure

He also failed to get on the assists/goals in the 3-0 win over Man City. I'm not saying he's not a good player he is just wondering if he'll bring home the FPL returns.

"Due one" is a nonsense argument.

8,2,3,2,6 is his form, and you had a go at the Balotelli love-in on the last page for his poor form, is Balotelli due a big game then?

Don't forget the 5,4,5,10 before the pattern u put up above bubbles.

People are trying to identify a pattern, hence the due one. And liverpools fixture and form are equally present.

and suarez isn't in poor form. He's been a little unfortuante witht he woodwork and he likes of Kuyt and Meireless coming to the forfront to steal his BP.

If you wana put a bet on i'd happily take a wager that suarez will outscore balotelli for the remainder of the season.

Well, if you're going back, don't forget Balotelli's 17 & 6 in the two previous games he played before the 5 games you decided to show.

And yes, as Tevez will probably be back in a few weeks, I'd say Suarez will outscore Balotelli for the remainder of the season too. It's a short-term punt, nothing more. I actually think both will do well this weekend, just Balotelli's double the week after compared to Suarez away to Fulham wins it for me.

I may not actually get him, just don't see how you can shoot down people for bringing in (or captaining) Balotelli - at home to West Ham, but say Suarez is a good shout (and he's not in good form FPL-wise, one goal and one assist in his last 5, in which Liverpool have scored 12 goals).

They've both good fixtures this weekend and so are both a good captain shout, for me. That is all.

See if Nani plays in the CL game first. If he doesn't show up, then sell Young.

I'm thinking of doing Young->Kuyt myself.

Made the decision to sell Nani 3 gwks ago.

Gwk 31 trades: Lampard, Adam and Luiz in for Nani, Nolan and Kolarov. 42 pts v 24 pts. Hit justified. 8)

Inalize, Not directed at me, but noticed your mid is the same as mine so thought I'd share my view.

I'm doing A Young to Silva this week. Young can get the double digits, but like Agbonloahor of two seasons ago so often gets just 2pt. I also have bent.

I'm not ditching Nani yet. He is owned by so many and has an added rotation risk, but if he plays, scores big and yo udon't have him your overall rank is at risk.

Hi Lucky, I have come to the conclusion that there is little point trading defenders at this stage of the season. Mids and Fwds tend to be heavier pts scorers so I'm thinking of selecting the biggest points potential. At the moment, only Kuyt and possible Malouda, fit the bit for this week.

City look good bet for the most cs. I looked at Kolarov and Lescott today. Lescott has a higher pts average and has a secure place in the team.

Kolarov threatens more than he delivers (2.6ppg) but the potential is there.

If you can afford him, Lescott for me.

Anyone else finding it hard to see an obvious transfer this week? Have Ya Ya and VDV for the DGW, and wanted to maybe do Foster OUT Hart IN or Terry OUT Kolarov IN this week but I am not 100% convinced Kolarov won't be subject to rotation and I nearly fancy a Chelsea clean sheet against Spurs, dont see it being the goal fest that Arsenal and Spurs was anyway.

As for attacking players, I just looked at the stats and it seems there are no outstanding candidates at the moment, A. Young had a shocker at the weekend, no attempts on goal, has to go for me, waste of space, but not convinced by Silva, when his assist gets taken away I am not sure I am willing to spend that much money on a pure BP getter.

Liverpool are the most appealing team to me this week, Carroll in for Rooney is looking tasty enough if he is passed fit.

For the lads that were wondering about suarez's potential after not getting many points v city and brum: For what it's worth he was the best player on the pitch in both matches imo, his movement off the ball and creativity with it carves up the defences. And he's not all about assists, he scored nearly 50 goals for ajax last season! I had him captain v brum and will again v newcastle. Sometimes fpl points returned isn't indicative of the points potential.

Kuyt scored about 50 goals in Holland.

Dreadful time to use that example, given his recent form, but yeah.....

Im feeling the effects of my Balotelli move this morning. What do i do with him now!? Surly Dzeko will start at home to West Ham now. And being realistic, RVP won't do much against UTD, i think he's only scored once against them before and it was disallowed. So i could be in for a low score.

Balotelli stayed on even when Dzeko came on, so if Dzeko is to start, then Balo could well do too.

I'm still going to get him.

Hope so, can't see that happening though, i think only one will start.

        2 CHE defenders/Lampard - Tottenham.
        RVP & Cesc - Utd.

It's not shaping up too well.

Mancini loves him. I'd guess he'll start, although it may be outwide with Johnson on the bench (is that what happened when Dzeko came on yesterday? Didn't watch the second half).

dnt give up on him imo althought he's far from secured he still fits in the following:

      4-4-2 alongside dzeko
      winger instead of johnson
      dzeko srving as a supersub
      and penalty duties

      i see he's still a decent pick

It's still a bit early for transfers but at the moment my plan is as follows.

    My front 8 are
    Dempsey, Lampard, Adam, Young, Nasri
    Rooney, RVP, Hoillet

I'm looking at doing this GW Dempsey, Nasri -> Silva, Kuyt (4pt hit)
Then next GW Young -> VDV

Do these seem like good moves?????

I don't think I could afford Walters>VDV as well...can't remember if I'm honest! More to cover someone I'm trying to catch as well.

Your transfers leave you with a nice team with minimal damage as well. Good choice captaining Lampard, I have no idea why I took the armband away from him and gave it to Walters, god damn disallowed goal πŸ™

just got a call from them scammers in india trying to get permissions on your computer, had him going for ten minutes, then he put me onto a senior agent. Then i gave him the run around for 8 minutes being nice but stupid, then put him on hold with bollywood music on youutbe. came back 4 minutes later, and he was still there. then i put the bollywood music on again and asked him if he knew the song, and sung along with it for about 4 mins while he was trying to say 'sir, i need you to type this into your browser now sir'...then i asked told him i fu*ked ganesh and ate beef by the truck load. He was geunuinely shocked- 25 minutes i blew on them- had them on bollywood-hod for about 7+ mins. then he cursed me into the ground.

    Well hello!

Still holding off on transx until the games are finished, but here is the team:

    Foster/Robinson
    Luiz/Baines/Huth/Walker/Bardsley
    O'Hara/Lampard/Dempsey/Walters/Adam
    Bent/RVP/Sturridge

What are my priorities for next GW35?

    I was thinking:

    Dempsey > Silva
    Bardsley > Kolarov

    Are both worthwhile?
