After being substituted in the 53rd minute of Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool last Sunday, Rafael Van der Vaart – who also scored the opening goal in the match – has confirmed that he is suffering with a stretched calf. The influential midfielder has stressed that he will do all he can and battle on to prove his fitness ahead of the final game of the season against Birmingham at White Hart Lane.

Connecting with fans through his official Twitter account, the Dutch international made the announcement:

“Stretched my calf a bit last Sunday against Liverpool but will do everything to make the last game of the season!”

Van der Vaart holds a very healthy Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership (27%) and, with his early withdrawal at Anfield, those managers – including 8 of the top 10 FPL – will have been anticipating an announcement. Today’s news will be met with a mixed reception however. While Van der Vaart seemingly has a chance of figuring in Sunday’s game, he could also miss out entirely or have his pitch time cut considerably once again.

Even though he has been considered a doubt since the victory at Anfield, media silence on Van der Vaart’s situation, together with his reputation this season, has seen him climb to fourth in our Captain’s Poll with 10% of the vote. A home clash against a faltering Birmingham offers potential profits and the Dutchman is understandably a leading contender for the armband. Van der Vaart has been in FPL staple for many a Manager this term, fetching a tally of 165 points which includes 13 goals and 9 assists.

For many this final gameweek could prove crucial and, with Van der Vaart holding such a prominent place in a high number squads, his situation over the coming days will need to be monitored carefully – the midfielder’s appearance on Sunday looks likely to have major significance to our fortunes as Fantasy Managers and those of Birmingham City. Check out our Twitter stream for all the latest.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I used to like The Apprentice. I dont like its movement to force reality, select certain characters and act scenes.

There was so many nonsense moments in tonights show i was literally pulling my hair out at the incompetence or that someone could believe its not partial staged and anything but reality show the 20 best minds around

Brady is not the main problem. Watch the link above. It paints it as it is.

i think there may be a bit of truth in them keeping a few of the more entertaining people in for longer then they should but i also think there's hours of footage for each episode and it's edited to pick out all the key moments. they key moments are invariably going to be largely cock-up moments as they are key to the end result of the task and let you formulate your own idea of whether alan sugar was right or wrong to sack person x.
so i don't think it's staged at all, it's just a situation will never be 100% natural when there is a karen brady or nick standing behind a cadidate/candidates with a clip board as they are doing business.

they're good enough. the majority own their own businesses, i certainly wish i swapped my ability to differentiate between an orange and a grapefruit for my own business.
it's entertaining, interesting and the cream does rise to the top at the end. the stuart baggs that stays weeks longer than he should never stops someone good winning so i'm happy for that probable rating inspired choice once a series.
the great thing for you if you don't like it for these reasons is alan sugar will get someone who isn't as good as 'the actual 20 best candidates for the show'. so in the end it's detrimental to his business/businesses. but he's made an extra load of tv money by doing it so he probably couldn't care less.
imo it's no way near as bad as other reality shows as it's far more relevent than them. i'd rather know little bits about about the world of business than how to stick a wine bottle up my fanny (big brother, don't ask). a bit of ignorance is always bliss otherwise we'll all end up miserable buggers like... charlie brooker who makes a career out of one the easiest things around; being critical of everything

                "there good enough"

Average isnt the best 20 around.

Regarding knowing about Business - this is as far removed as possible

Its pr, entertainment and who has biggest ego.

When the whole tag of the show is "the best 20 business people who applied" then il take them up on it.

That can be reply to Apple too as its very clustered below his comment.

It doesnt go anywhere near the basic of business. This is the worst part. - it not only is built on a false hook line of the best 20 but also that it involves an insight into the business world.

So people are left with this false , convoluted impression of an industry
                    - which would be fine and very good entertainment if it didnt try to pretend to be everything but this.

maybe they're the 20 best that applied? who knows, me, you or charlie brooker weren't at the selection process.
besides it's not like looking for the fastest sprinter where the audition/interview/trial is a 100m race. that way you know you will get the 20 best sprinters for your show. this will always be more subjective because how the hell do you measure who is potentially the best entrepreneur or employee for alan sugar?

again this is all irrelevant anyway as it's a tv show. it can't possibly be 100% natural, either watch it or don't.

Pretty simple and who they do it any environment

                    CV.

Its obvious here they were selected for their personalities and rivalries and to hit certain audiences.
And then add insult to the intelligence of the viewer by saying people were selected on merit.

And why couldnt a Tv show be natural??

it could be natural if there was a load of hidden cameras, but when half the show was jim's arse blocking the camera whilst you hear speech in the background it would be a bit rubbish to watch wouldn't it? it's a compromise.
of course they were selected on merit. they were seen as the best for the show. the right combination of entrepreneurial ability and if we believe the theories then yes being more TV friendly than the other guy/girl with exactly the same CV and experience but who was a bit more boring.
of course it's not a lecture on business skills, that would be boring to watch. but you do pick up bits and pieces from it and it is scandalous to tarnish it with the same reality tv brush of filth as the likes big brother and i'm a celebrity get me out of here for example. the apprentice is infinitely more relevant for me than other reality tv.
of course they probably tailor it a bit for tv, because it's on tv. seems fair to me

that's irrelevant to me. i want to see who wins out of the 20 people they have, i couldn't care who the 20 people are. unless every adult in the UK applied of course the best 20 people aren't going to be there, and the main point is it is a TV show. you can't have it both ways.
also think it's unfair to suggest there aren't some pretty savvy successful people on the show, there clearly are.

it delves into the basics of business (from my so far un-experieced viewpoint anyway). selling, communication, pitching/ presenting, working within a team, leading a team, marketing a product etc.
i also think the apprentice you're fired is a great light hearted take on proceedings afterwards.
some of brookers stuff is hilarious, his generic news montage sketch is hilarious (the one with the line: 'like something from the f***ing matrix'). also agree with his worthless tabloid hack stuff. here however he has a point, but a pointless point imo, it's a tv show. it's funny, it's entertaining, i have a tv, i like to be entertained, i watch it.
the fact you and him are watching it too despite not liking it is possibly the best part of all of this

Other than possibly the working within a team aspect, I don't really agree. How can the situation [when negotiating/pitching/selling] be natural, when there are cameras everywhere and the 'real people' presumably know that it's for The Apprentice.

No reason for them to be told it's for the apprentice, but yeah it isn't 100% accurate with TV cameras, but it does give a bit of an insight. Especially when they're project managing and giving pitches/presentations. Especially the one they have to give in the last episode where it's just two of them.

its not natural jamsie, its organic ;). Its a money making scheme for Sugar. No more, no less. Normally he takes a risk employing someone based on c.v. interview etc etc This way, he gets publicity, loads of money, ie: 8 million viewers for the 1st show of the new series (god knows how much that generates for him.) Then the best bit. He has 12-15 episodees watching them do all sorts of tasks before he makes his choice, less risk to him. Quite a cute idea as far as he is concerned.

Happy Gilmore is brilliant! Chubbs Petersen and Shooter Mcgavin are seminal comedy characters of the 90s. All the rest of Sandlers films are dreadful though, that's fair. Seen the Pred musical aye, it's awesome.

Daglish indeed has been amazing. Great season.

Didnt see that coming considering his previous stint at Celtic

But i also made the prediction prior to Mr Suarez coming & the emergence of Spearing, Kelly , Maxi etc

Suarez is fair enough but Maxi Spearing & Kelly didn't arrive in Januray, that's down to Kennys management qualities that he has played and got the best out of those players, Woy didn't.

You can tire all you like about me talking about them nobody is forcing you to read.

All that matters if its the truth. In essence you tired about the image of someone / something you admire being tarnished.

Regarding the issue you incorrectly linked just there. The tevez issue was obvious given he was at the richest club in the world - so money wasnt the motivator. I just merely gave my take on it. There was no sources involved just common sense. So yes i can claim this as my own. But so can any one else looking at both sides.

Re rooney/ Pienaar. This was based on information from European and Manchester based Journalists who revealed they were in tocuh with clubs confirming Rooney and his agent at let it be known he wanted to leave and had a verbal agreement on his move - this is why he went public as he knew another deal was in place elsewhere. He did changed his mind.

This was information from a source. I couldnt possible claim it as my own in any event, Which as i pointed out above i didnt.

Yet you tried to spin the first story on Tevez - common sense and the second - a source as the same and in essence made it look like I claimed to know re Rooney. That is false.

I was talking to Soup about the Pienaar/Rooney story ....yet you nicely re linked the Tevez story which had nothing to do with our conversation.

Well played. I couldnt care less who cares which way but i do care about the truth in any matter.

I see on FPL that Wolves seem to have the most number of players (33 registered on FPL atleast).

      My report card would read:
Despite early promise and genius Attila decided to become complacent and dedicate his energies into bragging and sneering at those below him. He then carried out the worst wildcard ever in the history of FPL which effectively destroyed his season and left him temporarily with Luis Boa Morte.
He's a spazzer who should learn to not gloat until the end of the season. Score currently 1992, 51k

lol, i have to say Attila I thought you were the Messia at the start of the season only to find out you were Bwian. lol

All those early punts you had seemed to be coming in all the time. Got some great scores/results correct and stuff. I'll be looking for some early season form from & tips from you p.s. theres a nag running in the Oaks on the 3rd June, Zain al Boldain, currently 10/1 shot. might be worth a wee punt. It ran at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago and the turn of speed was incredible. I cant remember the last time I saw a horse with that kind of speed. However it is a cavalry charge. The odds before that race were 66/1 and its now 10's. 😉

First season, currently 18k. Pretty poor, Got back up to 5.6k about 9 weeks ago but its been downhill since. Won my mini league weeks ago, so been taking less interest/planning and more hits which weren't really needed. That's my excuse for the red arrows continuing anyway 🙂

My dilemma exactly.....6pts behind ML leader and cant afford a 4pt hit to have both, so:

Tevez - just coming back from injury, good score midweek but away
Berba - on for Golden Boot, home, but may not get service from MF
Drogba - kept faith in him so far, will he do anything this week??

Sometimes the striker you take out gets the goals and with the points hit you usually take you end up much worse. I have seen this season unless the player is on a bad run of form its best stick with your team and just do one transfer -

Not arsed about Tevez personally. Not sure what all the fuss is about, his fixture isn't that good. Whilst Bolton have been a little porous at the back lately I remember all too keenly the ways of Tevez - brace one game, feck all the next.

Way I see it, Tevez had scored two in his last match. Berbatov hasnt scored since home game to Bolton or played much since then. Surely tevez is way to go then. But Berba has 4pts on Tevez before a ball is kicked on Sunday. Rival also has rooney to get rid of and can see him getting Tevez tbh

would do Tevez instead of Berba but can't afford it. only way of being able to afford would be to take out RVP and not really prepared to do that. or should i be??

he was free i think. him, voronin and joe cole are technically better signings than carroll in that respect. joe cole was a shrewd signing. you sign him up to a contract and another club has to pay for him. if he goes now even after a year of high wages he still will have been a free gamble for liverpool, as long as they get more than about 3 million for him

Guys considering an 8 pointer this week.

How does my defence look: Vidic, Hangeland, Kola, Luiz, Clichy.

Reckon I might only have two starters at best.

I want to do RVP and Odem -> Berba and Tevez.

The question therefore is: should I do Vidic-> Dawson or Silva -> Nzog to free funds, or am I going OTT?

lot of jumping on the bandwagon of strikers.

Carroll, Suarez, Odem, Hernandez...you could throw in Carlton Cole, Zaki amongst others who have had good 1 good season goals wise.

Be a big test for the above next season when teams know them a bit better and what to expect. Impressed...not really, if they do it again next season then il take notice.
