The Premier League have confirmed to us this afternoon that their Fantasy game is in the final stages of testing for the new season but will not be going live today.

The game and site have been enhanced and, while things are almost complete, there are still some minor browser issues that need to be ironed out before the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) site can launch.

We can take this opportunity to dispel a number of rumours that have cropped up in recent days and confirm that all is well with the FPL and that the game will be free to play. There are also a number of significant improvements that we feel will be greeted with a very positive response from players and, in particular, our community; having voiced strong opinions on certain features of the game, you have helped influence some of the changes introduced.

We will endeavour to bring you details of those changes and any update on the release date. One of the benefits of our new relationship with the FPL is that visitors to Fantasy Football Scout will get information and enjoy a two-way relationship with the game organisers. This means that once the game is released and the new features announced, you can rely on us to feedback your reactions to the changes.

Hang in there folks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Sun Dream Team

Is it worth laying an entire back 5 do you think, since there are no team limits??
Could go for 6 different teams for my 6 teams?

I'm sure budget would limit you from picking an entire back five from one team (if you wanted any sort of decent offence). There are only two or three from each team who are the undroppables anyway I'd say...

I know it's done in TFF - is this the 1st season the no restriction has been alllowed in the Sun?

Chelsea or City blocks could be the way to go, but then Arsenal/Fulham have the earlier European games so could be an easy way to rack up some early points.

Can I take it, then, that the pre-season guide updating is going to be sporadic at best? This is annoying, but we'll just have to do the leg-work ourselves.

Can I suggest that, according to my strategy at least, anyone who buys a keeper such as Given if he goes to Villa purely for their fixtures is making a mistake.

You need to get goalkeepers who can last you until January (assuming there's another transfer-window wildcard). Otherwise you will be sucked into using your wildcard early when your keepers' fixtures run out, and lose the advantage you gain by holding it back to later in the season.

Yes. What I'm saying is that, unlike other players, good starting fixtures are of little concern when you choose a keeper, because unless you're lucky you may well have to keep them until January.

This was meant as a response to posters I have seen considering keepers' opening fixtures rather than, as you imply, long term rotation.

Maybe Macheda is desperate for attention after spending a season on loan in Italy and not living up to expectation, so much so the club he was playing for got relegated? Throwing a cheeky tweet into the mix is one sure fire way of getting just that.

Inter's president has repeated several times now that Sneijder isn't leaving, Sneijder himself hasn't even said anything related to a United move. So tell me, why do United fans think it's their right to think this move is going to happen?

Wenger has talked up Gibbs a little. Vermaelen & new signing Jenkins can also play left back.

Plenty of time to go before the transfer market closes, but, I'm not convinced Wenger will sign a new left back.

Just looking at the fixtures again. Utd's start looks difficult for sure, but flick the filter to 'Attacking' and it doesn't look like goals will be impossible to come by.

Be interesting to see where some of their attacking talents come in at price-wise. Could be decent shouts.

Metro's a good option. Nice interface. Interesting Opta-based scoring system. Seem to have aligned the format more with FPL, should have ironed out some of the glitches that frustrated those of us men who were playing it last year. Like actually having gameweeks for instance.

If you want to put your nuts right on the line, Swansea and QPR combine exceptionally well early on and should only dent your budget by 8mil all together.

Not sure how good they'll be individually but their run of fixtures is excellent:

BOL WIG SUN NEW WBA AVL STK BLA wol BOL

Should take you clear of your first wild card if you've got the stones.

Yeh, might be a busted flush though. Kind of agree with CatMac, because I can't help but think Swansea will struggle after losing a couple of important players.

On the other hand, I love spending feck all on keepers 🙂

                Krul & Mignolet initially.

Apart from when team's have tricky home fixtures. Take week 4 when Sunderland have CHE, you've got to go with Newcastle away at QPR. Not the worst fixture, but not the best either.

Bit more expensive though, and I'm not sure I would like to have to pick between ARS/liv in GW1.

That said I do like the idea of Sunderland's defence with their new recruits. May well boil down to pricing.

    Rate my theoretical team -

    QPR keeper/other 4.0 (8)
    Baines (8), Sunderland Def (5), Chelsea def(6.5), 4.0, 4.0
    Taabarat (5.5), N'Zog (6), Hunt (5.5), Brunt (6), Sinclair/Barton (6)
    Torres (11.5), RVP (12), Suarez (10)

Arteta missed one when he came back, then Baines returned to pen duties and scored.

Too much spent up front, maybe a bit of that could go into a midfield? And spread the money over the defence.

I also freak out whenever I associate Torres with FPL.

      My prices are thus (ish)...
      GK 9.7
      DF 26.7
      MD 33.2
      FW 20.6
      = 90.2

I think you've priced that all fairly well.

Gone with a low cost midfield then? Interesting.

Everyone seems to be on that 'bandwagon' so to speak, and the season hasn't even started yet. Just upgrade one of your 4.0 defenders, or keeper. Or both.

I agree to be fair. But I do find it funny FPL hasn't even opened yet. And say Gervinho comes in at an 8.0 midfielder. He would be well worth it IMO.

I just want Holt up front so will have two big strikers and a big midfielder. Also balances it out a little.

Exactly my point. I said not terrible but theres a lot between not terrible and good. But Dyer is waaaayy to injury prone. Upson is a pre-maddona, and Cole, well. He has his moments, but not consistent enough for prem, would've liked to keep him in the championship actually, depends who we sign, though.

I think we'll manage it. Everyone says it is tough, and myself included last season, I followed it more than I ever have before without West Ham being in there. And although its "tough", to me there won't be a runaway winner as per. Here is my reasoning as to what some teams downfall are.

Blackpool - Losing best players, the ones that they had in the championship a couple of seasons ago, not got much strength in depth. I might even put a little bet on Holloway being sacked or Blackpool going down.

Cardiff - Too many loan players. All gone back, now what? Re-build?

Reading - Ok, they played well towards the end of the season and made the play-offs.

Actually scrap that. I've just got an article idea for my 'blog'.

Don't think I'll get Holt. He just won't have the edge over PL defenders when it comes to physicality.

Finding it hard to pick a Norwich player tbh. Like the way QPR and Swansea rotate, so might look to them for cheap defenders. Midfield places are always incredibly competitive, too.

Might wait and see with these. One of their best assets is their manager though, so I'll definitely be interested to see prices.

Shine is a strong word but i think both Fox and Johnson could do well in the PL.

I haven't been watching Norwich that closely but back to back promotions must leave any squad hopelessly behind when it comes to skill and experience.

Vaughan could be another one to watch.

Some players are just made for PL, I think I'll take a gamble on Hoolahan.

Mind you, I have a terrible FPL record. Too much faith in West Ham in past seasons and probably too much in Norwich this term.

      Wish I'd seen this earlier.

If Holt can adapt then he'll be fantastic for them next season, I am starting with him from the off. Hoolahan has that quality about him, BUT most for most prem centre backs, he'll just be a poor mans Silva. Holt has the brute strength in him to not get bullied, Hoolahan. Well. Depends where you can spare the space. Hoolahan on set pieces Holt on pens. Go for one of them two. If you can fit Holt in up front then go for it, but with less options in midfield, Hoolahan would be the 'easier' choice.

Jim was on a bit of a tightrope though. 😛

Quite surprised Susan made it to the final with her attitude and Tom did lose a lot of tasks but I guess their business model and cv make a difference to the decision which we can't really see as the viewer.

She was a bit of a muppet though- how you end up not being able to run a restaurant properly at least to some extent after doing a hospitality degree is beyond belief imo.

Evening lads. Reading the article and whilst I think it's generally a positive move I'm a bit disappointed that my rivals will probably see me posting here. Ah well!!! Such is life. However I can't wait for fpl to go live so I can finally start building my team. Aiming for a top 5k finish. Captain choice for gw1 is either silva or tevez if still there. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I think within the 5k is reasonable for me aswell I just need to take less point hits and knee jerks and go for a more long term team.

I followed the herd with a few knee jerk decisions also. Last season I started with a really Niger defence but I am def having two solid defenders. E.g baines and luiz. They are a goal threat and attract bps. Riise is a good cheap option and Dawson could be a steal at 5 mil. Strikers that spring to mind are rvp and bent. Midfield I'm still not so sure. May take a punt on Frank the tank. Will def get silva.

I agree about the defenders I would go for at least 2 solid defenders with a good goal threat. Made the mistake last season of all cheap defenders who rarely scored and struggled to get clean sheets. Will still get two cheap keepers who rotate.

Not sure on strikers yet but Halt seems a decent option but might go for some players like RVP, Torres or Suarez and possibly Bent but pre-season should help me decide.

Mid-field is my biggest problem since I have no idea who to pick at all. A Young could be decent if he gets regular games, Silva, N'Zogbia, Fabregas perhaps if he stays?

United midfielders are a concern as fergie loves to rotate. Nzog, silva, vdv are decent safe options. Cesc can be tremendous fantasy pick if he is playing well but he was so disappointing last season. Walcott is another on my radar. I think he will start most games and if around the 7mil mark he could be a bargain. For a gk I was considering de gea and a 4mil cheapie???? Thoughts ?

The problem with getting a top keeper and a cheap one is do you play the cheap one when he plays at home and the top keeper away or always play the top keeper?

That is why I am going for two keepers less than 5.0 and rotate them just when they play home games or obvious better fixtures.

If Cesc stays he has to play well, well unless he is unlucky with injuries again but I guess that can happen to anyone. Don't think I would get both Cesc and RVP but it could free up another striker slot having Cesc as there are many strikers who look decent this season.

I suppose my thinking was always play degea as united generally keep most cleanies over the season.
If cesc stays then I will consider him for sure. Only prob is he won't be on pens so that devalues him slightly. I'm guessing he will be around 11-12mil.
Ba/Doyle/Sinclair/holt are all good cheap striker options.

Wouldn't touch VDV considering Spuds' nightmare start; similarly Arsenal players wont be touched until GW4 for me. My midfield will likely be the generic on thrown about on here:

              N'Zog (if at Wigan)

              Taarabt (if still at QPR)

              Sinclair (if mid)

Malouda( if AVB looks like he'll use 4-3-3)/Silva if not and Tevez isn't still here as I'll have him preferntially upfront as City coverage

Mr Benn runs a fast food chain? Is that in one of the episodes?

Seriously though - that I would like to see. A Mr Benn themed fast food restaurant.
A meal deal themed for each of the episodes, a dressing up box in the corner, a secret door to a magical land etc. etc.
