Back in the routine yet? Maybe another familiar regular is what you need to reacquaint yourself with the route to the weekend Fantasy deadline.

We’ve duly published our first Captain poll of the season, canvassing your views on the destination of the Fantasy armband ahead of the season kick-off.

Straight way, we’ve got an interesting one.

Doubts surrounding the fitness of Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez level the playing field a little, while Nani and Wayne Rooney will catch the eye, though both may look a risk against a West Brom side who will surely be well-drilled by the crafty Roy Hodgson. Perhaps a gamble on Fernando Torres at Stoke is in order? But then Didier Drogba could easily start at the Britannia, such is the uncertainty surrounding the Andre Villas-Boas teamsheet.

Votes are already streaming in. You can cast yours now via the homepage middle column and use this article to discuss the options.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

One of my mates is a Norwich fan. Goes to see them play and everything. I asked him yesterday which Norwich players I should pick for my fantasy team.

Me: "Thinking of De Laet. He's on loan but nailed on at the back yeah?"
Him: "Yes, but he'll be playing in our defence..."
      Me: "Ok, how about Hoolahan?"
Him: "He pulls all the strings; makes us tick"
Me: "The next Charlie Adam then?"
Him: "No, probably not... and Holt is on pens."
Me: "I don't really rate Holt though ;-)"
Him: "What! He was our top scorer and on top of that was the highest assister in the division."
Me: "Would you have Holt or Doyle?"
Him: "(pause) Doyle - he plays in a better side."

    Potentially the finished article:

Given/Ruddy (or Kenny if I make a small change elsewhere)
    Kompany, Dunne, Shawcross, Taylor, Brown
    Lampard, Silva, Sinclair, Moses, Hoolahan
    Rooney, Carroll, Johnson

Plan is to do Carroll > Suarez and Sinclair > Sessengon in a couple of weeks. Could do Dunne > Warnock but I like Villa early on and I have my eye on Smalling/Rafael as the weeks go by. Feel like it's a good idea to have a 12.0 player in midfield and defence so nobody's out of reach.

Only player who I really worry about missing is Nani. But Rooney should be more consistent and unless I swap him and Silva for Nani and Dzeko I don't see a way to do it right now.

    Any thoughts appreciated xD

Haha I know. Red cards too most likely. But I willingly enlist myself on that emotional rollercoaster, he has a big upside when things go right, which I think they might.

I would downgrade Johnson if I had any idea who to do it for, doesn't seem much in the 5.0 range except Swansea players and I have Sinclair. So figured I can easily do without Sess to start with then if he looks good I can do the Suarez change and get him in. Won't work if Andy Carroll is in full destroyer mode. But I'd enjoy that all the same.

Sky Sports news is hardly a bastion of 100% reliable solid transfer news or injury news during the season for that matter, the source is still a "senior" source at Inter, I wouldn't be guaranteeing anything on either side to be honest.

If anybody wants proof here it is:

                De Gea Lindegaard Kuzyack/Amos = 3
Rafael, Ferdinadn, Vidic, Evra, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Fabio = 8
Nani, Young, Valencia, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs, Cleverley = 9
Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Wellbeck, Owen = 5
                =25

PLUS macheda, diouf, gibsom, pogba, tunnicliffe etc

I know, it's almost hard to believe that someone of Sneijder's caliber would be that "cheap", we have needed a set piece specialist since Ronaldo left, I don't care how people rate Sneijder as an overall player, he can take a mean free kick/corner. I agree, not getting hopes up again on this story, personal terms appear to be a much bigger deal than both clubs agreeing on the transfer.

Was Ronaldo really that good at free kicks? I'd love to see some stats vs other players.

For me he scored 1 awesome free kick once in a blue moon and most other times never made it past the wall.

Well, let's put it like this, we have not had anyone as good at set pieces since Ronaldo left, Giggs probably takes one of the better free kicks but isn't always on the pitch, and as ASG said, very few players score regularly from free kicks, Ronaldo had more of an obvious pass/fail ratio, so many free kicks hit the wall in general, his would either be way over, or in the net!

True. But Ronaldo was made out to be a free kick specialist. At least other players clear the wall on a regular basis.

ive got a good feeling about the games being on this weekend..

The rioting seems to have calmed down a bit in London. It is only Tuesday so normal order should be resumed in the next couple of days.

Its kicking off in Brum and Manchester but it appears that once the shops have been looted the hooded scum seem to lose interest. I guess that by Thursday they will be back to normal as well.

In theory all games should be given the green light if by Thursday we have seen an end to all this. However, if the prem and councils decide to be extra cautious they may pull the plug on all games with plenty of warning.

There is one game that will deffinetley be on..Newcastle Arsenal, unless rioting starts there as well. If that is the case then this could actually be the only game to be called off due to it being too close to the weekend..

Exactly. The rioting may have stopped by then but people are forgetting they will have been working night shifts and then expected to work weekend night shifts... while having all their holidays cancelled.

I can see this hitting matches in the capital and perhaps Birmingham.

That is a set piece smashing team, Baines/Silva/Kuyt/Taarabt/Holt/Bent and RVP, a staggering 6 on pens, nice.

Briggs is no longer first choice with Dempsey back and too many defenders for him to be first choice at RB/LB,replace with Simpson or someone similarly priced.

Kuyt should be on pens for the time being, so I would hold fast on that one.

It seems like with so many of the quality players in the midfield and attack having question marks (rotation risk, injury doubt, playing on a new team, poor fixtures, etc.), that the surest three bets are in the defense with Baines, Cole, and Kompany. (As sure as can be. The are all nailed on starters with a history of good production on teams that they've been playing for previously.)

I feel like if I get those three guys on my team, my defense is set and I wouldn't have to worry that position.

Is there something wrong with that strategy? How much is peace of mind worth for your team?

I see your point, but at the same time going for those three (especially both Baines and Cole) is so restrictive of you elsewhere in the team that it could be counter-productive.

Also, there's more stability in defence as a whole I think, so even if you don't have them, you can get a defence which provides some peace of mind. With the exception of Baines on a very good day, they have a fairly limited ceiling of what they can get in a single game to be worth prioritising them ahead of midfielders.

I'm having the exact same dilemma...if you think of Baines as a bargain midfielder it gets even more tempting...my main worry is that I know I'd want to sell him after gw5 when they have some tougher fixtures...and it effectively reduces your captain options by one as the weeks roll on

Rooney or RVP if he wasn't injured. Even Carrol or Suarez.

Who would you like to replace then? I`m considering picking Baines off the team because of his 8mill price, but not sure who to replace him with.

keep Baines and Kompany and go cheap rotating 4.5-4.0 seems to be the fashionable thing to do.

That is really up to you. I would sort my defenders by % owned and then set value at 4.5 then you can see who is pop choice and go from there.

Simpson, Alcarez, Gabbidon, Woodgate and Brown all seems interesting for me in that price class, but woodgate and brown is often injured. What do you guys think?

i'd probably juice up my midfield. why? read on.

your forward line may not be expensive, but K Davies is on pens, Ba had an outstanding goal scoring record last season (7 goals in 933 minutes), and Rodallega has some dream fixtures.

Anderson and Cabaye on the other hand don't please me.
Anderson isn't a sure starter, and Cabaye will play in a very defensive role this season.

      Hope this helps.

Agree with you in Cabaye. I think he maybe will take pens and free kicks so that is the reason why i picked him at the first. But i saw he had only made 2 goals in 36 matches for French champion Lille last season, that is not good enough so i sure will change him.
I think Anderson will play a important role this season due to the lack of central midfielders. He has had a good pre season and started to score goals so I still feel i have to give him a chance. But i understand your sceptisism;).
But who to replace Cabaye with? Considering VDV but they have a very hard 5 first fixtures, so have put him on hold at the moment. Maybe Ramsey?

Why doesn't the FA make itself useful and delay the start of the season for a week or two given the recent events?

Mind you if they can't go and watch the footy on their fancy new widescreens I suppose they'd probably just riot again.

Given that we have a Euro 2012 (if you're being serious) at the end of the season, automatically taking out 10/20 fixtures from the schedule would obliterate the fixtures before it even begins.
