While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I'd pick the Sunderland - Newcastle game as none of them will want to lose that one, the arsenal pool game and Wolves fulham. I think their will be a winner in the Swansea game.

    So Rooney, Aguero and Torres ruins my team.
    2/3 + Suarez seems to be better.
    Who to drop?
    AGuero – 2 away fixtures may get rotated when Carlos returns?
    Rooney – Two home fixtures, good form.
    Torres – Hasn’t scored yet but easiest fixtures but I’ll probably captain him next week.

      I have the same problem....But got it to work ok with all 3:

      Vorm(ruddy)
      Acole, warnock, delaet(simpson, Tate)
      Ayoung, Nzogbia, sessegnon, Dyer (moses)
      Rooney, Aguero, Torres(C)

      Obviously it's not a very strong defence, but an ok midfield and a heavy attack....but it seems like this years bonus system will favour the strikes on winning teams...so I'll give it a try 🙂

      Don't think City will bench the "new expenisve hero" , but maybe both will play, aguero on johnsons wide spot?

        Would probably downgrade Young if you have Ronney, maybe to Downing? Then get a slightly better defence.

    Knee-jerk or good decisions long term?

    Nani -> Young
    Who is guaranteed most starts? Young on freekicks and corners is a big plus

    Drogba -> Torres
    Torres seems to be the main man this season, with Drogba risk for being rotated. However he likes to scor big vs WBA.

    Carroll -> Suarez
    Really not sure about this one. Yes Suarez is the better player, but FPL wise I think Carroll will be good this year.

    And of course if I make the trades, the transferred out players will score big in GW2.

        Ya, I watched the Man City game and all I can say about Dyer is that he sure can move. Swansea wernt allowed much time on the ball in the attacking end, so I can't really say how the rest of his game is but at 4.5, he's quick and he'll start almost every game.

    Wow, this new GW2-WC is really interesting. Really tough call what to do. It feels too early to judge if a expensive attack is the way to go, even though the stats from GW1 are telling us that it is. I for one am thinkg of keeping my balanced team and hope it pays out. The only change I may to is to get Baines in aswell as having Cole. Can see them both rack up some nice bonuses...

    Anyone else thinking of abandoning Liverpool players altogether? They have Arsenal, Stoke and Spurs, all away from home, in their next four games, with a not too easy game with Bolton at Anfield inbetween.

    Or do people feel they likes of Suarez and Carroll are fixture proof?

      Suarez could be, but fixtures are really not that good and there are other strikers to pick from (Aguero, Bent, Torres, Rooney). At 9.5m Suarez is also very easy to bring in later on and Surely Henderson can't start again (he's a waste of space), so Kuyt should be on pens.

        Yeah, I'm thinking Rooney, Torres and a cheap striker, someone like Fletcher at 6.5 who has a nice run of fixtures.
        Then if needs be i could always swap Torres for Suarez/Aguero. I'm not jumping on this Aguero bandwagon just yet. They also have three tricky away fixtures in their next four. I prob will hold onto Silva though.

            He is defo a risk but what better time to throw him in than with two home games against West Brom and Norwich up next. If he doesnt do it these matches he will never do it! Its also slightly comforting looking at pools and citys next two, so if it were to go wrong, too much ground shouldnt have been lost... i hope

              Yeah totally agree on the fixtures, but you can play the likes of Aguero/Suarez against any opponent home or away and you must bench Torres away to Man Utd and at 11m you can't really captain him, because he can do 2 pts in just about every fixture (easily WBA or Norwich at home).

              But it's a tricky one, LIV, CIT, UTD all difficult next three or four and Torres some tasty matches, but worst possible form.

                Yeah, it is definetly a tricky one, and thats a good point about not being able to captain him.
                Think i'll have mull it over in the next few days and see what since I can make of it.

    Just want to make sure I'm correct, can I make unlimited changes now until the new deadline. The site says I'll lose points but I assume I get those back on Saturday?

        I can see Fabio right back so will be

        Fabio Smalling Jones/Evans Evra

        just not sure wheter he will go Jones or Evans but I think the other 3 are nailed on

        Fabio can play right and Smalling can play central, so still some rotation risk for the three youngsters, but Smalling is the safest best IMO.

        I reckon Fabio will start right back and Smalling to drop to the bench.
