While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm sure we'll all end up with the same strike force. I'm stuck on deciding between Torres and Rooney?

    Suarez, Aguero, Rooney / Torres.

    Whats everyone else doing?

        Carroll and RVP out
2 of Aguero, Rooney, Torres, Suarez in?

Sure the statement mentioned any transfer points will be given back Tuesday night, so I'm sure come Wednesday morning when you try to make more than one transfer we will no longer see -4pts, -8pts etc.

The worry is whether they can implement another change successfully after last weeks debacle and there will now be a similar volume of traffic up to sat lunchtime, so have they rectified the log in issue?

Seems solid enough to me, I wouldn't want both Nani and Young (Pick Young) many people asked me if my team last week was a joke but I scored 57. I'm happy enough with that, play the game your way. Win or lose, at least you know it was your squad and you didn't just copy and paste it from here.

I don't know if I am happy or disappointed by this new WC week, I had 58 points and had a vision in place as to what I wanted to do for the next few GW's. Now I have unlimited transfers it's going to be another week of tough calls, I was kind of relieved when the GW1 deadline passed!

Obviously if I was one of the few that submitted a sub-standard team I would be overjoyed by this decision. I agree with Sir Paolo though, I'd rather have an even playing field!

Agree to all of the above. This wildcard creates problems. My side was on 54pts and looking o.k with a fair team for GW2 and now having been happy with Rooney at home to Spurs there is 'pressure' to consider Torres etc. and that was without Aguero's performance last night. At lease beforehand most teams wouldn't have had these players and to be honest I'm not sold on wanting them now.

It does on the other hand provide an option to bring Baines in now without a hit (which I wouldn't have done).

He looks a sound option for this weekend, perhaps even as Captain.

Going off some of the distribtion of the bonus points decisions this week have been very questionable. Seems more like a bonus point lottery. Picking a team of goal scorers rather than players having a great individual games seems to be the way forward. Don't really agree with that logic tbh.

Going off some of the distribtion of the bonus points decisions this week have been very questionable. Seems more like a bonus point lottery. Picking a team of goal scorers rather than players having a great individual games seems to be the way forward. Don't really agree with just that logic tbh.

Messed my team about no end now and am still lost - what about:

    Given (Al Habsi)

Cole Enrique Lescott (Simpson, De Laet) subbing dL for JE in GW 2

Silva, Moses, Brunt, OHara, Formica - this is my problem area, its a cheap midfield. Happy with Silva and Moses but the others are fillers really.

    Suarez, Aguero, Torres (C)

Cant see how i get round the cheap midfield option without putting a cheaper striker in and upgrading one of the 6.0 mids???

Defence and attack looks good....but I would seriously downgrade the attack and plough it all in midfeild.

I've just tried out (gw2 setup)

Given (assuming not crocked) [al habsi]

De Laet, Cole, Lescott [simpson, Enrique]

        Moses, Silva, Sessegnon, O'Hara [formica]

        Bent, Torres, Suarez

        0.5m in the bank

Will the transfers taken this week add to our total transfer count come the end of the season? Normally when you do a WC they don't register in your 'total transfers' but it appears these ones do. Could be important come the end of the season if there's a dead heat in points 😕

Good article. I told three rivals about the free transfers yesterday, and they said they wouldn't be telling anyone else.

Pretty amazed at the FPL result, was pretty much resigned to the idea of how to start planning my coming two weeks transfers but can hold off now.

Even more amazing is reading some twits here hoping their opponents don't find out about the extra wildcard ... after listening to the belly-aching about wanting their leagues to be off to a 'fair' start, seems rather ironic.

My mini-league, no way can i tell them we start on Gameweek 2, I'll get torn to shreds, with three of my biggest rivals above or near 70, all vocal active league members, I'd never hear the end of it all season, especially since they all three outscored me. Fortunately, no one in the league has complained about not logging on that morning, and i think, from the looks of it, lots of them had their squads done and finished a good long while. My situation is definitely one where removing week 1 would cause a much bigger sh%tstorm than letting it stand.

....on an actual football note, looking forward to the Udinese game tonight to see how RVP and supporting cast perform. That wildcard leaves opportunity that I wouldn't have taken prior, to replace him this week and bring him back in on a transfer in week 4.

Well RVP is suspended, so I guess Chamakh gets a run out as they won't cup-tie Bentdner (does anyone actually want to buy him?)

Agree with you on the wombats not wanting to tell fellow mini-league teams about the extra wildcard. Ridiculous to want that sort of advantage.

I think although it was a nightmare way to start the season, not too much damage is done now teams can be re-built if players used auto select teams to register etc. Its not as if there was a 20 point player who would have been a likely captain option. First week, can imagine the most people are down is 20-30 points. Which could have happened anyway. And that isnt a big deal so early in the season. And granted, if someone loses ther mini league by that margin they might feel agreived, but they have had 37 gw's to make that difference up which is more that enough to make up the deficit. People could lose 30 or 40 points in gw 2 and wont give up the chase so lets get on with it.

R.V.P is suspended tonight i think

TBH i'm not really loving the extra wildcard after posting 62 but you don't really have any choice so how does this look?

    Given
    Jags Johnson Brown
    Ramsey, Sess, Zog, Cahill,
    Aguaro, Rooney, Bent

    Ruddy, Enrique, Moses, De Leat

It's a solid team, I only see two issues:
No CHE, not even at the back?
Wouldn't double on Villa under McLeish.
