While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm banking on them not fixing prices right now. If they don't go up then... jsut start again. Probably keep moses and sinclair.

Kind of annoying though, as I had planned ahead, and Arsenal and Man U had easy initial fixtures and now have a tough run.

Still weird with the Donna, she slept in my bed again last night, it happens every few days... It's nice having here there too.

As league administrator i won't reset the leagues although I'm already somewhat off the pace.

I'm not telling about the free trades. I'm sure FPL/FFS(the scout) will mention it later this week on FPL site anyways.

We all know that Lescott proves more of an attacking threat than Kompany and is .5m more but looking at the points index kompany is only 2pts behind Silva and Yaya who got a goal and an assist. looks like Kompany could be getting some Baps in a lower scoring game....

Fair call. Thing is I want to keep A.Cole and to make funds available for Baines, I actually think my Man City representation in Lescott may have to be sold and not just swapped for Kompany.

Wildcarding after GW3 seems a sound option, but then you feel like you've had 3 wildcards and will be pretty gutted come mid September if you're not happy with your side after all those opportunities.

New tactic, best 3 midfielders of the 3 promoted sides, along with N'Zogbia and Moses, 3 best strikers - Rooney, Suarez and Aguero, and I've got in Baines in defence with Enrique, Kompany, Taylor S and Rangel. My midfield might be a bit weak, but I've got players with a good potential to get 10+ goals and assists this season.

not exactly happy about the extra wildcard (think they should have issued one that can be used at anytime) as id planned for up to gwk11 but oh well on a plus note i now have torres baines gyan sessegnon and a couple others

anyway torres or lamps captain? tempted with torres

Yep, that way providing an opportunity to remedy any initial defects through lack of access, while still providing benefit to those who settled on a side early and done well.

Re: Captain - I think I may now try to incorporate Lampard as there seemed a few penalty appeals that may have been given at Stamford Bridge where the next two tasty games are being played. In trying to go with Torres you have the threat of Drogba taking pitch time or even replacing him come the 3rd game.

Lamps provides the additional midfield clean sheet point too and will surely play both the next two. Similarly Torres may be occupying a spot for Aguero/Rooney/Suarez in your side.

      So Lamps for me.

I plan to wildcard after GW3, so see it as a solid Chelsea pick who surely will get a penalty in one of those two games (assuming he scores) and Lampard is very good at scoring the 4th goal in a 4-0 win, an opportunity that these games present. This also makes Lampard a good captaincy choice.

He goes in the wildcard as RVP, Suarez/Carroll, Aguero (assuming Tevez has gone) become serious options.

im going with both in my team for the next 2 weeks as it makes the switch in gwk 4 of lamps/torres to vdv/rvp easy enough

if torres starts a physical game at stoke on the back of concussion over drogba i think its fair to say hes number 1 choice

Really? Hahaha, how stupid. How is a keeper meant to help his team get a win beyond keeping a clean sheet?

Considering Kurl and Begovic already have 2 bouns point each, that statement looks a little silly

    Young or Nani?

I know Young got more points in the last game but we're not replaying GW1, has Nani got more potential?

Also, is Rosicky a good idea? Nice and cheap, plays in the Fabregas position.

I'm only assuming but it would seem as if Young has more chance of starting games when Valencia comes back. He just seemed more attuned to their game than Nani although they were both dangerous. Rosicky is not a good idea and will drop to the bench when Wilshere is fit and with the Gunners fixtures only easing up in GW4 I reckon Jack will be back...arrrr...so don't go there...If anything get Ramsey in...if you want a mid from them...

Alrighty then...back to "wildcard" planning then...

Currently sitting with the Silva, Cahill (EVE), VDV dilemma. Silva was great but has tricky games ahead...but how can one knock class? Cahill is a juggernaut and they have good fixtures now and even if they lose he is bound to score. And then there is VDV who doe shave an injury doubt but may cause UTD some trouble as there are big question marks over that defence and keeper.

VDV would be like a gamble for GW2 I reckon as Spuds fixtures seem tough to start. So is he worth the gamble over the other two? This option would be in place of Malouda as I reckon I'll go for Torres.

Anyone looking to scan his performance should go to the Chelsea sight and view Pat Nevin's article...if you didn't catch the game that is.

So what's best guys...VDV, Cahill or Silva? (Heart says Silva but Head reckons Cahill - itchy trigger finger reckons VDV)

    On your marks, get set...GO!

cahill or silva ( i have both) if you get cahill you have him ready for the dgw when it comes, with silva he is one of there best players but still concerns me he may be a rotation risk

      Jis boet, hoe gaan dit?

My plan (pre this FPL debacle / free WC) was to dump Silva for nani/Young or upgrade Carrol to Drogs with the 500K i kept back.

Now it's a different kettle of fish. Think I'm still selling Silva as yaya seems to going to score ok ish for 1.5m less if you really want a City mid.

Think I will stay clear from City and get Kun in for Gw 4. VDV is very tempting and not many will have him come this weekend.

At the moment Im looking at 7-8 changes. You?

Am I the only one considering a punt on Cleverly or Wellbeck (at least until Hernandez is back)?

Ferguson is making it as clear as possible that he's putting his faith in youth, and Arsenal at home is never as hard a fixture for United as it looks on paper. Particularly not this Arsenal team, which is set to be their worst in about 15 years.
