This afternoon has seen Fantasy Premier League (FPL) update the stats after reviewing a couple of incidents from last weekend’s games.

Under this season’s new assist ruling (below), Wayne Rooney has another assist to his name, given for his role in this Ashley Young goal (1min03sec).

It’s a decision that’s likely to cause plenty consternation across the Fantasy world and is arguably as contentious as any Bonus Points decision that’s gone by. Under the letter of the law, though, it seems it must be applied. The Bonus Points for the match will stand, though, with Ashley Young still having a greater EA Sports PPI.

Elsewhere, Martin Petrov was awarded an assist for his role in Bolton’s late consolation at Anfield.

Crossing Potential
Certainly it seems that players supplying crosses may well be in line for increased assists. Perhaps it’s only speculation but, given that this rule change has thrown up an early example of an assist awarded which wouldn’t be given last season, we should perhaps expect more examples and an increase in assists from crossed balls.

It seems that even if a cross is unsuccessful, then, it could still be turned into a potential assist if the defending side’s clearance falls at the feet of the right opposition player, a la Ashley Young. The likes of Leighton Baines and Stewart Downing –given their number of crosses- are suddenly a little more appealing.

Assists
Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick gets an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given.

All assists are reviewed before the points are updated at the end of each day.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    sorry if asked before but

Q: Where (within transfers) can you see price rise by season and by gameweek ?

or is this not implemented yet?

I am considering creating a site with additional stats (like for example transfer in per gw, price rise per gw etc) if people would be interested?

Not sure of the new layout, or if price increases are highlighted on it. You might start by comparing gw history for each player.

Davide Santon is now officially part of the Toon Army.
Good signing. In terms of FPL it makes both Danny Simpson and Raylor riskier picks.

That's my point. Both are under threat in my opinion. Yes Raylor is good from set pieces but he is treading water defensively, his positioning is pretty poor.
Simpson is average. Neither of them are safe, especially if a LB comes in.

Following on from the discussion about this season with BPs etc

1)Those players who assist the assist e.g Modric type players are of even less value than ever before without the man in the stands BPs- yet they are still priced highly in the FPL

2)This season has so far benefitted the knee jerk manager those players in gameweek 1 who performed and the new signings have blitzed their way to top point scores - totally the opposite of last season when a knee jerk transfer would usually result in misery the following gameweek and the new signings taking time to bed in

It seems to favour the managers who dont really think too hard about the fpl and just transfer in whoever scored the most points in the last gameweek and just log in once a week

101 points, most of my league had Rooney (C) though so I'm still not in 1st place, I'm starting to think the right (C) choice is the single most important thing every GW. I'm certainly going to stick with Rooney every home game he has especially after what he said about scoring goals.

Not heard that but doubt Dempsey would move.

I'm heard about Juan Manuel Vargas (another winger I believe) from Fiorentina. Either way, they need a creative mid, not another winger.

Wouldn't see the point as they've signed Park Chu Young & Gervinho. (Assuming RVP & Theo are the mainstay in the team)

Simpson, Raylor, Bosingwa, Ward, De Laet
A Young, Brunt, Walcott, Silva, Dyer(swa)
    Suarez, Dzeko, Roonpig

This is my WC team any thoughts on improvement, I am tempted with RVP instead of the Roonpig.

            Excuses.

For a big club like Arsenal, their squad depth is pretty poor. Yes, but Blackpool score 2 at OT last year, but who concedes 8?? Blackburn only conceded 7 last year. Not Utd's fault about the injuries & suspensions - 3 reds in 3 games! Remember Rio & Vidic were out for Utd.

You can make all the opportunistic criticisms you want; it doesn't change the fact that no reasonable manager can anticipate having five of the starting eleven injured and expect to escape unscathed.

To be fair, United have such a deep squad because of the hundreds millions of pounds they've been able to throw around for ages to get A) good players, and B) squad players. Arsenal are only now experiencing having actual money to use, I don't expect their problems to last too long, max a blip of a season.

Yeah, I've always thought Mertesacker was a good defender. Quicker across the ground than he's given credit for(6 ft 6, so he's got a massive stride). Way more experienced than Cahill or Samba, and is (was) Werder's captain.

Not sure about the Joe Cole thing having anything to do with Hazard, I assume they're getting him because we pinched Park.

Talking to Arsenal fans, I don't think 'pumped' is the right word after losing 8-2.

They know their team needs a LB, CB, creative mid & ST. However, many of the players they've signed (Park, Santos, Mertesacker, Hazard? etc), they've never heard of and are unproven in the PL. Mertesacker though they're happy as he is the leader at the back they need.

Does it really matter if people have heard of a player before the move to a big club?

Vermaelen, Vidic, Hernandez, van Persie, Sagna, Kompany and even Arsene Wenger were far from well-known beyond the realms of Football Manager before they got their big moves, didn't stop any of them becoming successful.

Being proven in the Premier League is an overrated trait. If your scouting network is good enough, you'll pick up players who are able to adapt.

Good points there. After Arsenal's start, many are worried that they quickly fall behind Utd, City and even Chelsea & Liverpool. They want reassurance and so familiar names are the obvious way to go but as you said, these players may become an important part of the team

    Given (Vorm)

Bosingwa Enrique STaylor (De Laet, Gabbidon)

    Rooney Suarez Dzeko

I feel Arsenal will redeem themselves against Swansea so fancy having RVP or Walcott. Or should I just keep the team like it is? Or WC?

I think so, we've been linked with Van der Wiel but that may not materialise, and as AVB doesn't seem to see Ivanovic as a RB Bosingwa doesn't look to have any substantial competition.

I've WCed, as my team was awful, and am therefore trying to take advantage of price rises, like so many others, yet am a bit confused.

I've put people who are likely to rise in my team, some of which (Silva for example) I don't particularly want in my team by the time GW4 rolls around. If he's only going to get 1 price rise, is it worth having him in? I'm just a bit concerned, as I want Adam in my team, but haven't got him there at the moment, as on totalFPL he is much less likely to rise than Silva. Could end up costing myself by trying to be too clever when I don't really know what I'm playing at!
