Bolton have this evening completed the signing of David Ngog from Liverpool, capturing the French striker on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Ngog joins loan signing Gael Kakuta as Bolton’s deadline day deals with Owen Coyle bolstering his attacking strength with two players possessing pace and goalscoring ability. With Gary Cahill seemingly destined to stay at the Reebok, Coyle will be considering today as a success and will go into home clash with United in Gameweek four with an array of new options.

The Statistics

Three seasons at Anfield have provided limited opportunities for Ngog. Even so, when he has been given a prolonged run in the side, he has demonstrated his goalscoring instincts – clearly that has been enough to tempt Owen Coyle into making his move.

Five starts and 14 substitute appearances in his debut season at Liverpool brought Ngog just 3 goals but 17 starts (with 16 appearances from the bench) in all competitions. However, in 2009/10 the striker returned 8 goals – that included 5 goals and 3 assists in 10 Premier League starts – an indication that Ngog was equipped to deliver the goods.

Last season Ngog found his opportunities restricted once again – 9 Premier League starts with 16 appearances from the bench produced a tally of just 2 goals and 1 assists and ultimately led to him falling down the pecking order as Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Dirk Kuyt monopolised the starting roles in the Liverpool attack.

The Prospects

The capture of Ngog looks a smart move on Coyle’s part. Last season we saw Kevin Davies combine with devastating effect with Daniel Sturridge and, while Ngog may not be a match for the Chelsea man, clearly the Bolton boss has moved for the Frenchman with the same strenth and pace combination in mind.

“David will be a great addition to our squad. He is quick, can score goals and he knows what the Barclays Premier League is all about. Added to that there is his European experience with Liverpool in the Champions and Europa Leagues.”

A fleet-footed front runner, with enough power to cope with the attentions of Premier League defenders, Ngog is cut from similar cloth to Sturridge but is perhaps a goal poacher rather than a player who will contribute significantly outside the box.

Interestingly, goals haven’t been an issue for the Trotters thus far, with Ivan Klasnic notching in three consecutive games. His starting role would now seem in jeopardy given that Davies is nailed-on for starts and Coyle is set on a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 setup.

At 5.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Ngog could draw interest once Bolton are out of their current spell of fixtures. Meetings with United, Arsenal and Chelsea in the next four Gameweeks will not encourage investment but, from Gameweeek 8 onwards, Ngog could begin earning some attention, particularly if he can get anywhere near emulating the impact of Sturridge at the Reebok last season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

From what I've seen, Hoilett is a terrific player. Could be a good partnership, Yakubu is right up there as one of the top goalscorers in the PL, just needs to keep fit.

Dont mean to be rude Granville but your talking absolute rubbish there mate. Yak scored a grand total of 9 goals in his last THREE seasons for Everton.

Granted he got around 11 for Leicester, but the championship is nowhere near the premier league.

Last time he score more than 10 in premierleague was 08/09!

So. Let me see if I've got this right. Arteta has left the battling Everton, leaving Leighton in charge of penos. He has gone to Arsenal, where he will be 1.0 less than Walcott, and sitting next to Wilshere, when he returns. In the words of the Hercules cartoon - "Is there a downside to this?" 😀

True. People hyping Baines up having considered the negative effect that Drenthe may have on his general attacking play.

In which case Baines' only positive will be set-pieces.

And Everton took like 30gws to get a penalty last season

Still can't get over Hargreaves going to City. I understand his desire to get into a top team and CL, but after everything United did to try and get him back to his best, not to mention the trophies he won. For him to go to City shows a complete lack of respect and selfishness.

I disagree. After everything United did they still gave up on him. Fair play to him for getting himself another chance, turning this down out of "respect" to a club he barely played for would just be idiotic.

i doubt he did it out of bitterness or disrespect. Romance in football is dead and gone anyway.

I agree. The poor guy had an amazing career ahead of him which has been crippled by injury. He was released by his club and had to pick somewhere for what could very well be his last ever move before the knackers yard. One of the highest-paying clubs around knocks on his door... what would you do?

United were good to him, no doubt, but they released him nonetheless, so he can go anywhere. I get why United fans would prefer it's anywhere but City, but still, put yourself in his shoes.

I dont know much about Hargreaves other than he is from Canada (one of the few decent players we have produced, which isnt saying much) and he is injury prone.

Only a month or so back he was rumored to be coming here to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS, pretty good deal to turn things around and end up playing at MC instead.

So what've we got from the window..

Hutton: Now Villa's most appealing defensive option.
N'Gog: Could be a shout if he plays regularly at 5.4m
Bendtner: 6.4m should do well at Sunderland
Arteta: Should fit Arsenal nicely, definitely a shout once RVP gets injured.
Everton: Good news for Baines or Saha with pens. Osman should do better now. Barkley might have more opportunities. Beckford leaving makes Cahill more appealing once Saha gets injured.

Current thinking has 1.2 million left over which could well be used for Arteta > Walcott, but I'm not sure...

    Krul (Vorm)

Baines - Bosingwa - Brown (Simpson, N. Taylor)

Silva - Arteta - Jarvis - Brunt (Dyer)

    Rooney - Suarez - Dzeko

Could drop Baines for Enrique and get Dempsey in for Brunt. If I don't then I've only made one change to my defence despite WCing, 7 of the front 8 out though xD

Dzeko going up again tonight. Got 2 freebies lads, is it now the time to do Lamps to Arteta and Graham to Dzeko?

Do you think Arteta puts Ramsey back on the bench or will he still be starting?
