Patience, the antithesis of our oft-used phrase ‘knee jerk’ is the theme that runs through our latest Podcast episode.

Mark is adamant that he’s set to stand by his men, despite paltry returns thus far. Having missed out on the Wayne Rooney hat-tricks though, can he really afford to risk another avalanche?

    Morning from Auckland chaps - not online much so I'd appreciate some guidance... have I got my team right for the weekend?

    Can't see an obvious transfer - only three of my players are at home which concerns me. Wanted to do Brunt > Jarvis but I'm 0.1 short... can't see an obvious captain either...

      I'd play Taarabt over Brunt - Brunt is an injury doubt and I think that Taarabt is more influential and has a nicer fixture.

      If Dalglish plays Carroll with Suarez then Cap him(unlikely). If Kujt is chosen(likely) then go for Dzeko as Cap. I'm hoping for Walcott goal and Brunt playing.

      You've too many players and you're therefore leaving too much money on the bench. In the team above, you're leaving a 6m/4.9m/6.5m on the bench.
      You need some enablers to upgrade your 1st choice 11. Dyer of Swansea @ 4.6 for Brunt + Gabbidon/Lopez for Hughes gives you an extra 2.3m to do maybe Holt to Odemwingie (not all in 1 week obviously). Or Graham for Holt. In any case, you need to trim the fat.

    Has anyone else noticed that Shaun wright phillips didnt get any ppi points for the game, nor is he in the squad. He was man of the match yet they gave taraabt 3 and simpson 2. Whats going on

      He got -13 PPI, I assume this could be mainly due to the number of shots he had off target, and he didn't many tackles or interceptions.

      Absolutely not. Bosingwa is arguably the best value defender in the game and Chelsea are about to go on an epic run of fixtures.

          Quality team. Any cash in the bank? One free transfer? Obertan is the only major question mark I'd have, and Brunt may not play this week, so you could move one of those out on a freebie, or you could quite happily save a transfer this week for my money. (I'd bench De Laet, Bosingwa, and one of Brunt/Obertan)

        Mental eh? Next week begins a run of good fixtures that continues into next year with only a few road bumps on the way. Assuming he doesn't get rotated a lot/injured (touch wood) then I don't see him leaving my team until circa GW29.

          i would say its probably worth the risk. I cant see Wayne getting more than one this week. RvP could get a couple

          If you're quite far behind then at some point you'll have to play some risky differentials and this seems as good a week as any.....

      If Brunt wasnt 50% doubtful I might say him instead of Moses but as it is I think you're thinking of the best two

      Moses is recording decent goal attempts which must yield some profit sooner or later.

      the best thing about those subs is after willing your player to score or assist for 60mins you suddenly realise all hopes of a good score are instantaneously crushed as you desperately will the clock over 59:59 before the player leaves the field all for 1 or possibly 2 measly points.
      there's something very sad about that moment the commentator says "and it looks like player X will be the one going off." you go from the fresh faced man in the bar eyeing up the stunning, joyful looking girl to a weary, 8 pint ridden 3am mess who will take any thing he can get (the 1 extra point)

      There's no point going Brunt and Vorm - thats just hedging your bets because they can't both score. So I think Dyer should be the the fourth mid

      Hilario to Krul makes sense - I did the same myself

      RvP captain = high roller......

      But you have to think he will score at least as well as Rooney this week

      Having said this, I'm going Silva

        I'm 110 points behind in my league, so RVP would be a good differential, though the Rooney thing has screwed me thus far apart from one week where i captained him against Arsenal!
        Silva is a good shout...was thinking about him also...

        Oh how we laughed... but seriously, you should be more specific in your question. Is this a wildcard team, have you made your free transfer, what's your worry?

        Howard is an interesting choice, a slightly bizarre one if you ask me- overpriced at 5.5m. I'd prefer Mata to Nasri. Arteta is an unknown quantity at this stage.

    thanks for the podcast guys, the discussion regarding Baines and shipping him out for the upcoming "difficult" fixtures was interesting. I think keeping him may prove prudent given his standout performance last week and the fact he is on penalties and free kicks.

    Also the Nzogbia issue Granville mentioned is one I also face. I believe he is certain to score this week against his old club, just hope he play in the front 3 with Albrighton in his spot!

      Ramsey to O'hara wouldn't be too bad a trade.
      Petrov for Villa and a points hit would be crazy!he's not a great FPL points scorer usually, though he did well last week!
      He'd have to at least score to get the 4 points back, and then do something else to make it worthwhile....avoid!:-)

    Should I go with the masses and captain Rooney or choose Baines and take a gamble? Nice differential if Baines does well and Rooney doesn't but I'll get hammered if Rooney scores big. 'Tis a conundrum...

        This article is great, if anyone hasn't read it I recommend you do. I read it at the start of the season and it keeps popping up in my thoughts. The comparisons between Cahill/Knight and Baines/Distin are particularly thought-provoking.

        I bloody love Leighton Baines, but I ultimately want Silva, Mata, Rooney, and one of Aguero/RVP and it's a bit of a struggle to fit them all in.

      There's nothing i love more than to captain Rooney each week, and rightly so, however, something is telling me that he wont score well against chelsea, and even if he does, it will be the one goal in it i reckon, and i'm guessing hernandez will be that man if it does happen.

      As a major gamble, and one which i think may well pay off, is captaining suarez this gameweek. Tottenham are weak'ish at the back, and if van der vaart doesn't play i think suarez will rip them apart. Like i say, a gamble, but one that is more likely to pay off than rooney vs chelsea imo. 🙂

      rooney imo. defenders still need clean sheets, so far everton haven't been convincing on the clean sheet front, their one this season came after 2 missed blackburn penalties and the woodwork being rattled a couple of times. also you're likely relying on a penalty for a big baines score whereas with rooney you aren't

        I would agree. Baines has only had one (lucky) clean sheet against arguably three of the lowest goalscoring teams in the league, and has had one penalty and thats it

        I think its asking a lot to pin the armband on him

      Oh man that midfield is so weak.

      Not much you can do in one week, but I would say Hilario > Vorm (+0.4), Saha to maybe Long (+1.0), Dunne > Warnock (if you like villa defs) (+0.5) and then use that cash to upgrade a midfielder

      At least when Hughes is fit he will probably play again. Alex looks like he wont play again in the premiership
