[sbu_large_image] Injuries

On the back of todayโ€™s draw at Stoke, reports suggest Wayne Rooney may be sidelined โ€œfor a few weeksโ€œ according to quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Rooney’s is not a serious injury, but it was enough to keep him out today, and I think maybe for a few weeks.”

While we await further confirmation on the prognosis, the news will come as a bitter blow to the 50.1% of Fantasy managers that currently own the Man United striker. Rooney has been subject to nearly 350K transfers-in over the last four Gameweeks as he racks up the points with ridiculous ease and has rocketed in price to 12.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

With Norwich rolling up to Old Trafford, Rooney would be a nailed-on cert for captaincy in the showdown with Paul Lambertโ€™s side and with Javier Hernandez also limping out of todayโ€™s Britannia clash, the likes of Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen will be vying for starting positions as Fergieโ€™s side looking to get back to winning ways.

If the news is confirmed, many may turn to the likes of Robin Van Persie- the Arsenal skipper finally began to offer Fantasy returns this afternoon with a brace against Bolton and the 3 bonus points surely set to follow. With just 5.4% of owners, the Dutchman would be a viable “differential” and has a favourable run of fixtures ahead. As does 11.3 Sergio Aguero, though the Man City forward is already owned by 39.7% of Fantasy managers in comparison.

We will follow up on this as soon as we hear any more; hopefully the next twenty-four hours will offer further clarification.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I almost made a 4 point hit this morning for RVP, but all the lads told me not to do it. I wasn't brave enough. Never mind even if he misses one game a lot of the players will keep him so the risk could be taken still. Nor isn't any particular game when Rooney is needed so I don't believe that he'll play.

Cold logic says Fergie will "keep him injured" for the next two games and try and keep him away from the internationals...

Logic logic says that I can't see if he's okay that there's any way, shape or form at stopping Rooney turning out for England in the vital qualifier.

If he's out for Norwich though. Easy, very easy sale for me.

I agree totally. It's typical SAF strategical thinking.

England have all but qualified after the away Bulgaria win.

I really can see Rooney MIA until the int. break is over.

As you say....easy sale....take the profit and run.

What would you advise from these 3 options?

    Rooney & Torres OUT for:

    1) Aguero & van Persie

Thats true i guess, but my finger is hovering over the aguero & van persie transfer button as we speak lol, plus if i want rooney back in i could always just transfer the two out again and get a 10.0m in there somewhere, or maybe even torres when he's back as he'll of fallen in price hopefully.

im doing the aguero & van persie one mate, think its worth it really ๐Ÿ™‚

It's typical Fergie to suggest Rooney's injury is more serious than first expected.

There are a few benefits to this:
    1) Misdirection. Don't be surprised if his name turns up on the teamsheet come Saturday.
    2) Rest. He may have been looking for a reason to give him an extended rest and Norwich at home is as good as any time to rest your star player.
    3) International Break. If Rooney misses the Norwich game it seems plausible he can sit out the next international break.

Agree with all this. Imagine its a combo. Lets face it they won't see the need to risk an 80% fit Rooney vs Norwich at OT.
The England game although competitive isn't essential and like Fergie cares anyway.

For those wondering what happens to your non-playing Cap'n in Metro, here is what they have to say on the matter:

"I think we're going to get this question a lot this week with Rooney not playing tonight! If a substitute is required for the team captain, then the captain will always be substituted first using the top ranked substitute who will still result in a valid formation and that substitute will score double points in the captain's position. We'll be adding points for auto-subs early on Tuesday once the last game in this Match Week has completed."

    Hope that helps ๐Ÿ˜‰

Where did this Fergie quote come from?

Ferguson didn't say Rooney would be out for a few weeks, he said 'more than a week' on Sky and a 'couple of weeks' on BBC.

Scroll a bit down and it says "I think maybe a few weeks".

Why is everyone transfering Rooney out, Nothing is confirmed yet.I would wait till after Monday and Tuesday and see if he trains or starts/takes a place on the bench to decide.

i personally wouldnt keep rooney even if he only misses one game, liverpool and everton wont exactly be good hunting grounds after comming back from injury and unlike previous season he wont automatically get 3 bonus pts if he does f all and gets lucky with a penalty.

Thinking of doing Cole & Walcott to Kompany & Ramires.

However, I may need Spurs/Arsenal cover as I believe there will be goals in that game like there always is, 3-2, 3-3, 4-4 etc. Maybe 2-2 this time round?

Own RVP but captained Silva... I'd do the same again if all the games were replayed as I don't currently have Aguerro or Dzeko so covering myself ๐Ÿ™‚

Be interesting to see how many Rooney > RVP transfers we get though this week.

On 44, but do have Brown and Taarabt to come.

Still holding out hope that I get somewhere near 60 but we're asking for Taarabts first goal/assist of the season.

I'm hoping for Norwich CS (De Laet, Ruddy). Would take me to around 70 with bps to come. Even if not, its still my best GW so far this season.

How did Nasri play today? I'm wondering if its time to bite the bullet and swap him to Silva.

Bit unfair he had a couple of decent crosses and a good shot from distance. Silva is the much better option though.

Very little impression - even at this early stage of the season my decision to choose him over Silva is costing me big time; and watching each City game hoping for that swing back to Nasri never looks like happening.

From a standing start Silva can turn his way out of the tighest area, Nasri can't and shuffles the ball backwards to somebody else.

I know, we all laughed when we heard it. That adjudicator last year would have been responsible for giving Nasri 3 bps.

Nasri is a luxury player who goes missing far too often. Silva wasn't completely on his game today but is still a class apart.

Not with me - I already have RVP ๐Ÿ™‚ Rooney's (possible)lengthy absence, along with a few quibbles in my team may prompt the wildcard to come out....but we'll have to wait & see...

I could see that too, but I want to see some news on Hernandez. Hernandez vs Norwich for one week could be a goodie.
