On the back of today’s draw at Stoke, reports suggest Wayne Rooney may be sidelined “for a few weeks“ according to quotes attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Rooney’s is not a serious injury, but it was enough to keep him out today, and I think maybe for a few weeks.”

While we await further confirmation on the prognosis, the news will come as a bitter blow to the 50.1% of Fantasy managers that currently own the Man United striker. Rooney has been subject to nearly 350K transfers-in over the last four Gameweeks as he racks up the points with ridiculous ease and has rocketed in price to 12.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

With Norwich rolling up to Old Trafford, Rooney would be a nailed-on cert for captaincy in the showdown with Paul Lambert’s side and with Javier Hernandez also limping out of today’s Britannia clash, the likes of Danny Welbeck, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen will be vying for starting positions as Fergie’s side looking to get back to winning ways.

If the news is confirmed, many may turn to the likes of Robin Van Persie- the Arsenal skipper finally began to offer Fantasy returns this afternoon with a brace against Bolton and the 3 bonus points surely set to follow. With just 5.4% of owners, the Dutchman would be a viable “differential” and has a favourable run of fixtures ahead. As does 11.3 Sergio Aguero, though the Man City forward is already owned by 39.7% of Fantasy managers in comparison.

We will follow up on this as soon as we hear any more; hopefully the next twenty-four hours will offer further clarification.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Of course it does. Value is great but most of it comes as a result of picking the best players. When it gets to the stage where you're making transfers on Saturday/Sunday night because you want an extra 0.1m it's stupid IMO.

About to press the confirm button on:

    Walcott to Nani

I need man Utd coverage while I bench Rooney, so is this certianly the best possible transfer I could make? Other option would be Senderos to Bosingwa, Suarez to Aguero, or Dzeko to Adebayor.

Last time Nani took one (ahead of Berbatov, for one) at Fulham last season he was berated by Fergie as not having supposed to have been within 100 yards of the ball. We stand by that until proven otherwise, though some -like Young- is just guesswork.

well I'm keeping Rooney. at home to Norwich then 2 weeks off for International break so will be fit after that. Can afford to let him drop to bench rather than sell him for 12.2 and need to buy back at 12.5 mmmmmmmm It's a squad game and I know he's most expensive player in game but 1 week on bench is ok IMO

But he returns to liv MCY and he won't be getting hattricks in those fixtures.

maybe not hattricks but still a season keeper IMO plus got RVP and Suarez to carry the burden. Maybe a Hattrick against Liverpool actually lol

Good luck with that one, knowing when he will come is one thing but to come straight into 3 tough fixtures wont be easy.

He won't be 12.5 by then though. Maybe 12.2-12.3?

Still a waste of 2 transfers though

I just see everyone transferring him out and then he plays and scores against Norwich. Great players are fixture proof.
