Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez miss training this morning as Fergie hints at rotation for the Champions League match with Basel. Arsenal reportedly receive a boost over The Walcott’s fitness, while Harry Redknapp hints at his best starting XI. Roy Hodgson admits to weekend tactical blunders, while the injury worries mount up for Steve Kean before this weekend’s showdown with Man City. Here’s some Monday morning Scribbles folks:

Harry Redknapp’s post-match comments after Spurs 2-1 win were perhaps a little intriguing. Jermain Defoe missed out with a stomach bug, allowing a fit-again Rafael Van der Vaart to come back in the starting XI just behind Emmanuel Adebayor. With Luka Modric and Gareth Bale on the flanks and Sandro alongside Scott Parker in central midfield, Redknapp admitted:

We’ve got the makings of a really good side this season. The team I put out against Wigan is not far from my best. We’re very, very strong.

QPR extended their unbeaten run to three games after a late, late Richard Dunne own goal rescued a point for Neil Warnock’s team at Loftus Road. The home side dominated possession and fired off the most shots but were somewhat wasteful in front of goal- Warnock again kept faith in Jay Bothroyd but the misfiring frontman has still yet to break his scoring duck this season. Two yellow cards for Armand Traore means the left-back will miss next week’s game at Fulham and Warnock was nothing less than candid over the player’s actions:

I thought it was a disgrace. Not the referee, the player. I am going to fine him as much as I can. Total amateur Sunday league sending off. What Traore did, that’s not clever at all.

Alex McLeish had to make do without Darren Bent after a groin strain kept the striker sidelined. Barry Bannan started his third match in a row and grabbed the Villa opener from the penalty spot- the young Scot has now overtaken Charles N’Zogbia’s Fantasy haul for the season, though may struggle to hold down his place in the first tem when Emile Heskey returns from a hamstring problem. It’s a case of glass half-full or glass half-empty for Villa- yes, they still remain unbeaten after six games but on the other hand, just one win leaves them four points off the drop zone.

Steve Kean doesn’t have his injury worries to seek right now. With a rampant Man City due to visit Ewood Park next weekend, the Blackburn boss admitted he has worries over defensive trio Scott Dann, Gael Givet and Michel Salgado after the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle.

Roy Hodgson admits his tactics were at fault in the first half of the West Brom-Fulham game on Saturday. The Baggies played a 4-3-3 system Hodgson had trialed in the midweek Carling Cup clash with Everton before moving back to 4-4-2 but their managers was less than impressed with the performance:

It didn’t work particularly well and I didn’t even recognise some of the players in terms of the number of times we gave the ball away.

Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, has vowed to maintain his preferred passing game, regardless of the outcome. Swansea were seen off by ten-man Chelsea at the weekend and found the net in an away game for the first time this season in the 4-1 defeat but their manager stated:

We always try and keep the mentality of the players. They’re a fantastic group. They play a really brave way. We don’t thump the ball up the pitch, we try to create goals and score goals. In our first season we won’t be coming to Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal and defining how we end up. Our home games will be critical.

Ahead of Man United’s Champions League home game with Basel, Sir Alex Ferguson has been talking of giving some fringe players a run out. A draw in Benfica was, arguably, the most difficult tie of their group and with Fergie targeting ten points to see his side through to the knockout stages, he said:

Maybe I’ll use some of them against Basel. I do need to get all the squad moving. I think there will be changes on Tuesday.

Reports suggest Theo Walcott’s knee problem is nothing to concern Arsene Wenger. The winger limped out of the proceedings in the game with Bolton on Saturday but early indications suggest he may well be fit to start the midweek Champions League clash with Olympiakos.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

We all know of SAF mindgames, but this is Norwich next W/E, not exactly the UCL Final. So I'm thinking that SAF won't be thinking mindgames are necessary and Rooney will likely miss out. Thoughts?

I don't want to ship out Rooney unless necessary so am holding tight for now.

Well all you need to know about SAF is he is a perpetual liar to the press. Remember Bayern and no chance of rooney playing? He started 2 days later. If Rooney is fit he can't stop him playing for England so i don't think it's related to that but it would be fairly textbook for both Roon and SAF to stick it to the FA for swear-gate. Could see Welbeck and Hernandez start against Norwich with Rooney on the bench if needed.

he's alongside the likes of vidic, huth and bolton defender x as the biggest defender goal threats in the league. 0.5mil for a few more 6 points a season seemed a gamble worth taking.

With regards to the Rooney saga. Anyone else just think SAF is losing in his mini-league and trying to deceive the world into thinking that Rooney is injured, then starts him and captains him in his FPL team where he goes onto score a double hat-trick and boost his points to the top of his mini-league??? 😛

So, I suspect that points per minute must be part of the algorithm.

Looking back at goalscorers who played 35mins or less this season

    Milner v Everton 16 mins 3bps
    Shotton v WBA 19 mins 2 bps
    Suarez v Arsenal 23 mins 2bps
    Vellios v Wigan 33 mins 2 bps
    Balloteli v Everton 34 mins 1 bp
    Aguero v Swansea 34 mins 3bps

Players who didn't get BP's but were very close
    Drogba v Swansea 16mins
    Chamakh v Blackburn 19mins
    DJ v Wolves 21 mins,
    Park v Arsenal 26 mins,
    Mata v Norwich 34 mins
    Welbeck v Arsenal 34 mins

It's clear why they missed out, there were loads of other goals in those games

It is quite open that time on the pitch is relative to points earned for it...

      3. Appearances - Players receive points for minutes on the pitch. The number of points won by ALL teams in the league are divided amongst the players according to the number of minutes they have played. This is similar to the first Index but this does not take into account the result of a match, it awards points purely for playing time.

Don't think it's anything to do with scoring a goal in a 1 minute cameo; say compared to scoring a goal in an 85 minute appearance.

Receiving index points for minutes on the pitch has nothing to do with receiving index points for goals per minute on the field.

Andy's reasoning is certainly less stupid than mine.

Time on the pitch alone must be insignificant compared to other factors such as shots off target.

i think it's a simple case of passing stats mean very little and by being on the pitch for 90 mins a player has more time for shots off target. finally being on the pitch for 15mins in a win must still count as a win

As a frequent poster, you knew that when someone asks for thoughts on their team, they are looking for CONSTRUCTIVE negative or positive comments. You were just trying to be a jackoff with your response knowing no one cares or asks for a smart ass "I don't like it" response. If those are your best comments, keep them to yourself.

BB, Jack(off) is a regular poster who helps alot of people out. You for all I know are on here for the first time posting a question and have not been a help to many this season. Look, Jackoff may be a great poster and helps lots of people out. However, if, as Ji Sung states, he is a frequent poster on here, he very well knows that "I don't like it" is a smart ass response when someone asks for feedback. Chris888 insinuated that I was mad because Jackoff didn't like my team? Not at all. I promise you that I'm not mad at all when someone doesn't like my team. However, I would hope that people that don't like it tell me what's wrong with it when I ask the question for feedback on my team. That's what this board is all about - If you don't like someone's team and someone asks for help, you tell them what is wrong with it or why you don't like it, not just a smart ass, "I don't like it". If that's the response, then just keep it to yourself and don't post because it is of no assistance or use whatsoever which is what this forum is really here for. Now, many of you may side with Jackoff because he's a frequent poster here, but he was completely wrong in this instance and nothing you say about your posting "buddy" can change that.

They aren't sticking up for me because they are my "buddy"
In fact, they aren't sticking up for me at all, they are clearly saying that your in the wrong.
I have NEVER seen you here, you have NEVER posted help for others, yet you come on here immediately asking for help, and then take a smart-arse comment to heart and reply with complete racist bullshit.

You say you have never seen me here yet I've been posting here since last year. You say I have NEVER helped other posters, yet I've offered my constructive comments whenever I thought I could help. Sometimes I've liked the team posted and I've commented as such, and sometimes not so much and I've suggested changes. I can tell you what I've never done, though: Just write a smart-ass commment of "I don't like it.". Do you think just because you help some posters you get an occassional pass to be an asshole to other posters? I don't care what other posters write - Just because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed doesn't give you the right to be a jerk to others. It usually works like this: Don't be an ass to others, and they won't be to you. Try it it works!

Lol, the thing is I don't care for any of this? You have clearly taken this personally whereas I don't care if some complete random on a forum site is a 'jerk' to me.
I'd rather be a smart-arse to someone (knowing full well it means nothing) than to be a racist idiot....

I have definitely not taken this personnaly at all. I won't even remember this later on when I get on with the "real" things in my life.

I just wanted to give you a taste of your own medicine - Being an ass to someone else just because you feel like it.

Clearly you do care if some random poster is a jerk to you because you keep responding to these posts of mine. If you didn't care, you would have stopped writing long time ago.

Very commendable that you help lots of posters as others have stated. Just don't post those few times you feel like being an asshole to someone else on those days when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

I like Agero, RVP, Suarez, Silva and Nani...that's five massive hitters.

How can you afford that I think...then I see him sitting there all proud on the bench..where he will remain forever. Ferguson...the man that means you now have 14 players to everyone else's 15.. Ditch him now.

For a £5m player, I'm perfectly fine with a regular starter who threatens to threaten the goal.

He suits just fine for me, would exponentially prefer him to a N'Zonzi or Derry.

He did hit the post a few times earlier in the season tho.

The longer it goes on the more likely he's gonna score in the next game but on the whole Wigan have been pretty bad.

Maybe pick a player from a team thats performing, Faurlin at QPR looks good at 5

Brown to score a header and De Laet to make 2 clearances off the line for 2bps.

I have no united coverage so for Norwich what transfer looks best?

    Mata to Nani
    Holt to Welbeck
    VP to Hernandez or Rooney

Holt to Welbeck looks like a nice transfer man, I'd wait until friday though obviously.

The three of them are too good (and expensive) to bench

      Any other options?

Roonhair OUT. thus got young in which required a 4 pointer...

    leaves me with

    Vorm
    Bos Ward Simpson
    Nani Young Silva Dyer
    Aguero(Cap) Ade Suarez

    Krul-M.Petrov-Taylor-DeLaet

kinda happy with that. may leave the hair out till after the citeh game now then choose between ade/suarez for his comeback?

I never take 4 point hits, don't believe in them BUT I'm strongly tempted to take a 4 point hit to swap Jarvis and Arteta to get Nani and Tiote. I'm thinking Jarvis could be about to drop so prob need to do it now. Thoughts anyone? Am I mad?

Aha. Then I see the logic.....

Nani does look like the one to have at the moment and if youre gonna captain him its probably as good a gamble as you can take this week, as long as he doesnt get an injury V Basel.

Honestly tho, I'd be keeping Jarvis for the next three games and take my chances on another United player V Norwich.
He did ok V Liverpool and these 3 fixtures look good.
