While the October international break has afforded us time to roll out a few new site features, I’ve been beavering away with a “quick” update on every Scout League we’ve got out there this season from Fantasy Premier League (FPL) to the Championship…

Classic FPL Leagues

Six weeks into the season (we scratched off gameweek 1 after all the drama) and there are two folks neck and neck atop the all-important Fantasy Football Scout league. An average of just under 69 points a gameweek sees Jennifer Rutter and Dag Birkeland as the pace setters- Owen McGongle was top until then and will, at least right now, be kicking himself over that Sergio Aguero injury.

Our stat-engorging, Season Ticker-loving and diligent subscribers in the Members League are a little further behind right now but that’s no means not to congratulate Richard Payne for his first six weeks atop of the pile. Pouring over every fine detail of each shot blocked and key passes made got you where you are, right Richard?

While on the topic of Classic leagues I suppose I should give our very own Contributor’s League something of a mention and begrudging congratulations go to my colleague Akers for his early lead 1/6th of the way through the season. I, Andy, find myself slap bang in the middle with my stateside colleague da Beeeeez equidistant in points from the top to Superior Being at the bottom.

Head to Head Leagues

FFS H2H 1/ FFS H2H 2 / FFS H2H 3 / FFS H2H 4 / FFS H2H 5

We’ve now got so many Head to Head Leagues even I could grow a beard in the time it would take to go over the ramifications. Instead, we’ll split our select leagues into two and leave most of the work to another of my self-drawn tables with a quick high/lowlight to follow…

JimI, Verbal, gaspar, Gunner Legion and Super-Hans all have an early lead in the weekly match-ups, sitting top of their respective Head to Head leagues at this break in the road.

Granville and Mark are doing it for the pods as they put on a respectable face for the Fantasy Football Scout fraternity, while I try and glide past the fact another two of my fellow colleagues are currently sat in dead last and would be heading for the Reserve League as things currently stand.

FFS H2H 6 / FFS H2H 7 / FFS H2H 8 / FFS H2H 9

Those are just the first five of nine 20 man Head to Head leagues we’ve now got in rotation. In future, these articles will give more space and time to managers on the rise and wane between updates but, for now, we soldier on with the final four…

JC, Boss Hogg, Dexter4King and mattiesafer are the other four Head to Head leaders at present, as they make an early attempt at forging a place high enough to move up our league structure. In these leagues, falling down the ladder is much easier to do- that’s what I tell myself anyway as el-fozzie, Big Dunc and myself continue our dispiriting performances from the Contributor’s pot – da Beeeeez at least helps out somewhat with a spot in the top six.

You may not recognise the name WillHowe in Head to Head 8, but you should; he helped design this new chapel of Scout we now house ourselves in. Here’s hoping his fortunes improve, then. A name you probably will be familiar with is Westfield Irons, otherwise known as Jon Reeson and Fantasy Premier League winner 2009/10, who is teetering dangerously on the precipice of success and failure. For now at least, he has “reason” (sorry) to be cheerful.

Reserve League
Just a handful of weeks into the season and we’re already down to a “mere” twenty-four managers with unbeaten records in the free-for-all known as the Reserve League. Alan Barlow sneaks the lead from Neil Winnett by a slimline 8 overall points, with twenty-two Fantasy Managers clawing away at their heels as they look to break into the nine aforementioned leagues next term.

European League

As you’ve probably picked up on in the last month or so, Fantasy Football Scout has gone a bit continental. Why Napoli you ask? This is because we’ve spread our wings to provide parallel coverage of the Champions League this season.

We’ve got a more than healthy contingent of European Fantasy managers in the Scout League. You may have seen Granville skirting around the comments, heard him bend Mark’s arm to mention in the Scoutcasts and even shout from the rooftops about his grand start that had him first in England at one point in time. Now, he’ll have to make do with miserly fifth and just third in the Scout League.

Obay Eid’s wildcard-inspired second Matchday sees him top the Mancunian pod-jockey on number of transfers alone with the greatest credit so far going to Emmanuel Martey who is two points ahead of the pair and has the early lead in our European adventure. 141st in the world (and 1st in Ghana) is a none too shabby start.

The Other Leagues

We didn’t get as much time to review as many other games on the Fantasy park this summer but still managed to stop off at a couple more points of interest before the season began. Sun Dream Team is the other big Fantasy game out there with its giant prizes and equally large readership, so we were more than obliged to set up a Scout League.

Covering every game on each Premier League team’s agenda, from the Europa League to the Premier League via the Carling Cup, there’s an abundance of opportunity to snag some bargains if you play your cards right. Sitting with a Royal Flush as another transfer window opens is Gareth Owens and his Inter Bearded Clan. Notorious member of our commenting community Attilla the Bum also finds himself in a respectable 11th place.

And, finally, we’ve got 126 managers with an eye on the Championship and its Texaco branded Fantasy Game . Us in this here league bear witness to Paul Young at the top of the tree, though David Sudlow in third and Colin Gray in second, with an almighty bounty of assists, are not going to let him run away with things.

I somehow find myself joint third in the assist charts and yet still languishing in 76th place. The miserly 7 goals so far this season probably has something to do with it. I’m not bitter.

Hopefully, schedules permitting, we’ll be back with in the next International Break after another four gameweeks of FPL action.

Just on Sturridge, his real competition is with Kalou ... Anelka can play out wide but AVB sees him as a central striker. Although Sturridge's preference is to play central striker, AVB has suggested this season he will be a right forward. Central strikers (competing for one place) are Torres, Anelka, Drogba and Lukaku. Wide forwards are Malouda and Mata (predominantly left), Kalou (either) and Sturridge.

Basically, when everyone is fit and not in need of resting: Mata Torres Sturridge
Mata unfit- Malouda comes in, Torres unfit- Drogba comes in, if Drogba is unfit- Anelka, Sturridge unfit- Anelka comes in, Anelka unavailable- Kalou comes in. Order of preference is:
      Mata_____Torres___Sturridge
      Malouda__Drogba___Anelka
      Anelka___Anelka____Mata
      Sturridge_Sturridge__Kalou

    Vorm

        Hey,
but Moses plays Bolton at home, if he doesn't score in this game, then he'll never score. I predict a riot from him! And Nani plays in Liverpool. They are strong. Nani's points away from Old Trafford are not that good (this season has been a bit different so far though).
Actually, I want to play them both, but don't know who to bench. All the suckers in my team have good fixtures (SWP, Moses, and Sinclair). While some big guns have tough or average fixtures (Nani, Suarez, Adebayor, Mata)...

think of it this way, if Moses doesn't score well against Norwich, Swansea or QPR then he'll never score....that's exactly what happened in the first three matches....surely that's more than a massive hint that Moselliorov is not going to score well this season.

But it's not like he couldn't score in those games... Hit the bar twice if I'm not mistaken...

correct me if I'm wrong but hitting the bar is off target, close, but not as close as someone who can actually score getting it into the net. Perhaps the bar is as close as Moses will ever get? Happy to be wrong and more than happy to get him back into my team should he shine over the next couple of matches, but it really isn't going to happen.

Just think there are some people out there with both Ferguson and Moses.

    Begovic (Mignolet)
    Bosingwa Clichy Simpson Hall (Hughes)
    Mata Nani Dyer (Tiote) (Ferguson)
    Aguero Rooney Suarez

This is my wildcard week and ive no more money in the bank, getting frustrated with Hughes losing value (4.7 down from 5.0) but deciding to stick with him although ff has put him as doubtful for the last 3 gameweeks! With unlimited transfers should i swap out Clichy (who's also losing value) for a cheaper defender eg. Enrique (maybe post utd game) to upgrade Dyer, Get a cheaper option than Aguero who may miss out with his groin injury to do so or stick to what i have? Thoughts would be much appreciated!!

Philippe Senderos has returned to London having been diagnosed with a torn muscle in his left thigh. This happened during the pre-match warm-up in Wales on Friday and resulted in Senderos pulling out of the Swiss team at short notice. He'll play no part in Switzerland's final qualifier against Montenegro, but there's no news as yet as to how long the injury will keep him out for.

Good to hear that but we have to support IE as a mainstream browser - the changes we're making will really help those who use it but will also benefit everyone. We want to develop the ticker more (and already have new features done) but it makes no sense to have it contributing to the load on every page - better than users click to open it when they want to use and refer to it.

Having said all that, when we developed the new site, we always knew it would be IE causing the problems - i've not used it for many years.

there are many issues. the main problem is that it has lagged behind and is not supporting the evolution that is going on in regards to web design.

i recommend firefox, or chrome if you have an old computer (chrome uses very little resources)

to clarify further: the problem is that web designers always have to take special care in regards to IE - so the less IE users, the better the web. that's my two euro cents.

Mark, the new site design looks brilliant and works fine on my iPhone. A few small suggestions i would make:

1.If you have to save loading time the injuries and bans section I don't look at too often. Not sure about everyone else.
2.Would it also be possible to remove the filed under and author links from the stories as fat fingered iPhone users like myself do sometimes click the wrong thing.
3.Would it be possible to see the score of the scout picks and add a captain and vc? I know another site already does this but I find it quite useful to know what the expert view is on the captain choice. I find the right captain choice to be crucial and it would be good to get at least an article on the top few choices for the GW.

These are only minor suggestions and the site is amazing so keep up the good work.

I say screw IE, Firefox and Chrome is all is needed. My mates who are web designers and software engineers says that IE is always causing problems, I think its on purpose from Microsoft, but that is irrelevant ATM. IE is default in your computer and u need to install Firefox or Chrome (Opera or others) If people are lazy to install them I don't know that to say.

Chrome is 8 times faster than IE and Firefox is 4 times faster. Also all of them were tested recently and IE crashed first. I really don't get it what;s all the fuss about using IE.

22% of the web-users are now using IE. 5 years ago it was 75%. Luckily its decreasing, but still, as with Dan, for many it was what was installed on their computer, and if it aint broke dont fix it. But still, it has stunted the development of the web, as with flash (a whole different story though).

A lot of companies are tied to IE because they may have developed old in-house systems which are dependent on it - we still have users visiting the site, I guess from work, on IE7 - a browser which even google have now stop supporting.

I understand, Daniel - and there is no way we can factor in panic buying ...

Let's say he does another 400 until tonight, then 1000 tomorrow - he would still be

          28875 + 1400 = 30275

Well short of 32126 ... then we are in to Tuesday. you can listen to the match, get a report - and do the transfer! 🙂

The problem is that, according to FISO, Jones rose in price last night with an NTI of only +28,954. Ramires went up +0.1 on 1st October with an NTI of 24,219. Target NTI for both had been 32,123.

            http://crackthecode.fiso.co.uk/LOG.HTML

This NTI ceiling issue seems to affect players on their second consecutive rise more than first-time climbers, but it makes calculating transfer schedules quite tricky.

The ticker logic adds time to everyone's page loads but, because IE 7 and 8 are really struggling, users of those browsers are seeing everything slowed - including the loading of gravatar's and emoticons.

We're removing the ticker from the load completely, adding a button to load this when the user needs it so that we can keep the ticker as an option on every page.

Users of IE7 and 8 really should consider using another browser though - the ticker will still load slowly in these browsers. Version 9 - a free upgrade, is fine and dandy though - as is chrome and FF of course.

Even then, it's adding to load and, as we add more features, we will be fighting our aim to optimise the site and keep it speedy. The solution we've got is good - works really well (the ticker loads in about 1-2 secs for non IE7 & 8 users) and keeps the ticker on every article page.

We're just setting up the button and testing the logic that picks the members or non-members ticker depending on the user membership. We're nearly there.

We can't revisit those until we have the site performing better. We are looking to solve the issue of the ticker for IE users first, then we're optimising the delivery of the images a little more. After that we will let the design settle down and then re-assess the roll-out of the new features. All the coding is done so it's just a question of a bit of testing.

I have the same problem next week... RVP or Roon -> Suarez. Am favouring Roon at the mo but next saturday may change all that.

I like the look of A personally. I have a similar conundrum. Have both Young and Rooney. probably keeping them though

Young has given poor yield lately but rooneys head may be f***ed and cant justify both in espesh when liverpool and spurs have ace fixtures in next few weeks. I may go whole hog n drop aguero for adebayor too. I need to know all my players are going to play every week

I think Young is in great form and will probably be in top 3 highest scoring mids this year. Played well for England again also. Goal and assist. Fergie will sort Rooney out dont worry, its something Capello isnt capable of! I fancy United to smash 3 or 4 past liverpool at the weekend and both players to be involved. If Young is injured though I will have to transfer him out!

Very quick question guys upon which I'd really like your view. My 2 main rivals have Ramsey. Is a 4 point hit worth Given and Barton to Krul and Ramsey?

Would be nice! Ramsey worries me but Barton might not be a complete waste.

I suppose it depends how far ahead of them you are.

I'm wildcarding so I've done Given to Krul to rotate with Vorm and also got Ramsey in but didn't cost me any points.

I think both transfers are worth it though in the longterm.

All in the mix so early days. Have a feeling Ramsey could do well next few games.

QPR are at home to Blackburn, theworst team in the league, why would you get rid of Barton? Id make neither of those transfers

Yes but Arsenal are at home to Sunderland and have a better run over the next half dozen fixtures imo.

Taarabt should be shown the door at Qpr,, If they are to do the right thing they should'nt play him at the weekend n let someone who wants to play, play instead. Disgrace.
Carlos is his best mate 🙂

      Not at all.

More being made of this situation than needed to be. Us QPR fans are used to this kind of reporting with Taarbs. He's never refused to play for the team, unlike Tevez.

As our CEO Philip Beard said after all this bus top nonsense, Taarabt is an important part of the team.

    Vorm

    Enrique Woodgate Kompany

    Nani Silva Moses Petrov

    Adebayor Suarez Rooney

    Subs: Given Jarvis Simpson Brown

2 free transfers, 0.6 mil in the bank.

Is Jarvis -> Ramsey the transfer I should do or do you guys have any other option?

Thats exactly the substitution to make and your team should score very well over the next few weeks...even better if u had rvp up front instead of roonpig

you don't like it? Have 0.6 in the bank, will get 6.1 for selling jarvis, depending on when I get ramsey in 6.3 or 6.4 goes away. leaves me with 0.4 or 0.3 to upgrade brown. if selling moses for tiote another 0.3 comes in which means i can get a def for 5.1 or 5.2 instead of brown. suggestions?
