Our Watchlist rankings, listing our current player recommendations for the next three to four gameweeks, have been updated and are available for your perusal. Read on for a breakdown of this week’s moves and logic behind them…

The goalkeeper rankings are our most volatile right now, as the likes of Chelsea, United and even City, struggle to maintain a run of clean sheets, the trend of acquiring budget of mid-price stoppers remains sound. Our current rankings reflect that, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina the only “expensive” goalkeeper option listed.

Villa’s Shay Given climbs to the top having so far failed to live up to the pre-season hype as the clear and obvious goalkeeping selection in our squads. Given has thus far kept 3 clean sheets in 8 starts, earning 5 points from saves along the way. That ranks him ninth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings right now, although we feel he now has fixtures in the short-term to boost his points tally and make up ground.

Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is the top scoring keeper in the FPL and, once his trip to the Emirates is disposed of, it’s hard to argue against his appeal of three home games in four from gameweek 10 onwards. He could well topple Given next time around – although arguably the Stoke defence is best covered via the likes of Ryan Shawcross who offers additional goal threat.

Indeed, Shawcross, subject of our Watchlist article last week, is again a climber, a move that almost breaks him into our top five rankings. Strong gameweek 9 fixtures keep both Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Fulham’s John Arne Riise ensconced in fourth and fifth, while above them, the trio of City’s Vincent Kompany, Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique remain settled. The latter has fully justified his number one ranking in recent weeks and, with three very strong consecutive fixtures, looks a clear front-runner for any defensive funds.

It must be said that both Kompany and Bosingwa look less secure. Villa-Boas’ side have kept just a single clean sheet, whilst City embark on a run of opponents that will test their resolve, starting with the trip to Old Trafford this weekend. Both could be set for drops in our Watchlist rankings in the near future, with the likes of Shawcross looking certain to be promoted in our thinking.

The top two spots in our midfielder rankings remain untouched, despite both David Silva and Nani being benched in gameweek 8. Below them, Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart is pushing hard and is beginning to look a real prospect as Spurs embark on a run of opponents that will surely grant them handsome attacking returns. Certainly, with Emmanuel Adebayor competing with a host of established attacking talent in our Fantasy forward lines, Van der Vaart looks a more viable option when it comes to covering Tottenham’s potential.

Bolton’s Martin Petrov came under the Watchlist microscope last week and with good reason – he enjoys a significant climb into our top five placings on the back of decent form and a favourable run of fixtures. At 5.8 in the FPL, it’s difficult to find a better value proposition for the month ahead, unless you’re prepared to take a risk on team-mate Chris Eagles at 5.3.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another prospect enjoying a climb this week – we’ve been studying his numbers carefully and, despite Fulham’s stuttering form, Dempsey’s goal threat remains substantial and indicates that returns could be very much on the agenda in weeks to come.

Established heavy-hitters Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard hover outside out top five – blasts from the pasts, both are enjoying a Fantasy renaissance having regained starting roles. Hugely expensive, the obstacle to investment in clear, although both could provide very strong differentials for those brave enough to invest. Juan Mata and Dirk Kuyt offer more budget friendly coverage of the Chelsea and Liverpool midfield – although both are arguably less explosive. Certainly Mata has yet to deliver the kind of returns we’ve seen from Lampard, while Kuyt’s potential is dented by the loss of spot-kick duties to Gerrard and the Dutchman always under threat of rotation with Andy Carroll kept on the leash.

Amongst the forwards, there really is little movement. Our endorsement of Robin Van Persie over both Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero paid off in gameweek eight, and we’re confident enough in the Arsenal’s skipper’s form and fixtures to leave him in the number one spot. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is also promoted above the Manchester pairing with fixtures over the next three gameweeks that should afford him the potential for significant returns.

Lower down, Gabby Agbonlahor enjoys a slight jump above Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge with stronger fixtures in his favour. They both trail Tottenham’s Adebayor however – he could be a real threat to the established top four if he can stay fit and begin to deliver over his run of favourable opponents.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Evening lads, just wanted some advice on this move.

OUT: Young & Meireles IN: Gerrard & Walters.

I am definately bringing gerrard in, so is walters a wise move for the other? after bringing gerrard in i have 7.2 left to spend, just reckoning walters is the best value for money in that price bracket?

    help appreciated 🙂

Note this would mean a 4 point hit also 🙂

Vorm - away at Wolves, Ruddy away at Anfield.

No Spurs or Liverpool players (away at Blackburn and home to Norwich).

3 Swansea players.... Barnett - Norwich 0 CS in 8 games - make that 0 in 9 (after Liverpool game).

4 Utd/City - both face each other, RVP away at Marseille and playing a tough Stoke defence - possible injury awaits? Ramires injured.

Wilkinson not 100% start and at Emirates, Bosingwa - Chelsea 1 CS in 8.

Nah Nasri has to get the start. He took him off for the working wing Milner. He was having a rather involved match. Also Johnson not playing this game tonight was huge, he definitely has to get a start, he has the freshest legs of all the impact midfielders.

Fat chance, he was rested as well late. Mancini knows he needs an enforcer to close down when Yaya's flopping or embellishing a challenge on the ground. Yaya is so annoying, the guy does more limping and rope-a-doping than Ali. Did you see how dirty his kit was?

Given the gw 12 situation with Vorm / Krul, I'm looking at the idea of changing Krul to somebody else. Is Schwarzer worth it, or should I just get in Al-Habsi, who rotates with Vorm til gw 21?

Schwarz Vorm has been a source of pride for me this season. Though there was a blip this week, I'm pretty settled as they still rotate well. May only swap for Begovic.

In fact, I'll get Shawcross as my defensive coverage. Talking of Fulham. Aaron Hughes is a bargain at 4.7...

Does anyone have an opinion on how likely Phil Jones is likely to be affected by rotation this season?
If the United defence is at full strength does he then become a rotation risk?

Being tipped by some pundit to be the England captain within 2-3 years give me a laugh a bit like the laugh I had when you said Andy Carroll was Liverpools future.. Think you said something the same about him being young etc etc..

          Suppose time will tell...

Are you looking forward to Sundays match?

Why is that so far fetched anyway? He'll be an England regular wont he?

Yes time will tell with Carroll.

Of course, should be interesting. You might have won most of your games but when you've come up against good sides this season, you've struggled.

Well he can play in Midfield or Defence, but the spot he will play the most games at is Right-Back.
He will have to compete with Rafael,Fabio,Smalling and maybe Valencia for the Right-Back spot.Ferdinand will get injured soon anyway so there is no worry. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

So I'm going to guess there are a few opinions on him then. 🙂 From the little I've seen he looks to have the confidence of youth and a good degree of talent. As a guess I would expect rotation when everyone is fit in Utd's defence and midfield.

    Anybody use ratemyteam.co.uk ?
Usually use it as a rough guide and just found it interesting that they rate Bendtner above Gabby and Sturridge in that price range. Was contemplating that myself already have Mata for Chelsea coverage and not sure how long this streak of Gabbys can last.
In a related topic how did Hernandez look tonight?

I reckon Gerrard's overpriced at 11, VDV is about right at 9.7, Suarez and Adebayor are both good value, so I'd go for VDV and Suarez.

Guys, does anyone think Enrique will rise tonight?

Not sure whether to transfer him in tonight or wait till tomorrow? Or not to do at all?

I have two free transfers and My team is:

    Given (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Kompany Simpson Senderos (Brown)
    SWP Silva Nani (Dyer) (Moses)
    RVP Adebayor Suarez

Thinking about doing Senderos and SWP to Enrique and Ramsey.

Good moves? Or should I look at Gerrard or Mata would mean shifting Nani though

Yeah, good moves I'd say - I don't think Enrique's rising, can you still do the transfer if he does? Not sure if Ramsey is playing tomorrow, but wait if you can afford to. Senderos has got to go and SWP has horrible fixtures.

Yeah, well Ramsey to SWP is a straight swap so I can hold that for now. I cant afford Enrique to rise so I might just do that now. I want him in and Senderos out so I think I will just make that change now and make the Ramsey change later in the week in case someone picks up an injury.

        Appreciate the response!

    Begovic, Vorm
Bosingwa, Kompany, Simpson (Adrian Lopez-don't ask, Gabbidon)
    Walcott, Sinclair, Brunt, Ohara, (Moses)
    RVP, Rooney, Sturridge

2 Free transfers 4.8 in bank

    A) Moses & OHara/Brunt -> VDV & Reo Coker, next GW Walcott -> Silva (if Silva does not rise in price)

    B) Walcott -> Gerrard (2 transfers next week)

    C) OHara/Brunt -> VDV (2 transfers next week)

    D) Other

Bit of advice on these options please, thanks.

Don't pull this often just going to have some tough decisions:

    Al Habsi

    Enrique, Riise, Simpson, Bosingwa

    VDV, Mata, Silva

    Welbeck, Ade, Suarez

    (Vorm.........Murphy, Micah Richards, Cabaye)

Ideas and perspectives welcome, thanks in advance!

Welbeck(too much of a rotation threat) out for sturridge or Adbonglahor. Riise(not worth the money) out for Shawcross.

These are things that need attention first IMO.

For me, U should get rid of al-habsi and riise Cos there are better options at that price like Krul for Your goalkeeper, and get One of rooney, rvp or aguero U'll need them

Al Habsi and Vorm pretty much from day one I've had them.

        Al Habsi-38
        Vorm-39

Al Habsi is quality on a rather shite squad, the recipe like. And he's still outscored Krul, who has had a gang of clean sheets. And he likes saving penalties...so does Vorm.

Honestly I'm not overly keen on Al Habsi, Riise & Welbeck. I'd put in Sturridge for Welbeck this week and then then try to take out Riise for Kompany or someone general but decent like that. Also I noticed you've taken quite a few hits - 28 points already which can't have helped.

Cheers, I want Welbeck out but I like how he plays in the big fixtures, I may get cold feet but I also want to see if Sturridge pulls lengthy minutes tomorrow. I have a feeling that Sturridge is nailed on for the Derby. No way I'm dropping Riise for Shawx, I feel he's a muppet in hiding. The hits HAVE NOT helped, but they haven't hurt as much as the non-Rooney-Aguero coverage which inexplicably led to the hits....and the WC. Al Habsi stays as well, l've found that people rotate goalies like defenders, not crazy but I rotate them off of save opportunities and I've been luckier than most.

In the end I don't mind a rotation threat if I can somewhat predict whoa gaffer would want to start and if his substitution patterns somewhat match his perceived desires. I may actually keep Richards in since I know he's guaranteed a start on the right and know (sorry Man U fans) Evra can not handle his power with pace, besides he's compiling quite an assist tally. Riise can be cut loose soon, but I'm not hurting for money and I know he's due to get on cleansheet haul soon...if not a few set pieces.

you just cant feel secure having vdv, mata, murphy and welbeck, will you ever get 90mins out of them.

I would try and aimto get get a big hiiter up front, rvp or aguero.

I'm with you on that, just can't chance an RVP crocked spree, I'm at a sensitive juncture of clawing back. I will soon lock down the hits and go into differential mode. I may go cheaper with at least one striker. And field either 5 mids or even 4 to 5 defenders at points. I'm predicting parody will creep in for a couple of the big hitters. Not quite trusting Aguero's groin right now either.

Spot of bother Manamongst. You've taken a series of hits have ya? Welbeck to Agbon does make sense, or Sturridge if he's more to your liking. Riise - Hughes or Warnock works for me, or Shawx after this week. Or a wc if you have one.

Yeah hits ARE a problem (I'm officially blaming it on a move [and subsequent futbol blackout...thanks wifey] from the US to Spain...that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Staying away from Sturridge this week, until I watch them play tomorrow. I have a bad feeling about Daniel this week, I think he logs big minutes against Genk and gets rotated for Anelka, AVB's not a players coach for nothing. He's gotta make sure everyone's eating, and slick Nic against QPR might be in the cards. Something tells me that Mata's tired of all these fairweather owners talking schit (forgive me father) behind his back...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!
