Our Watchlist rankings, listing our current player recommendations for the next three to four gameweeks, have been updated and are available for your perusal. Read on for a breakdown of this week’s moves and logic behind them…

The goalkeeper rankings are our most volatile right now, as the likes of Chelsea, United and even City, struggle to maintain a run of clean sheets, the trend of acquiring budget of mid-price stoppers remains sound. Our current rankings reflect that, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina the only “expensive” goalkeeper option listed.

Villa’s Shay Given climbs to the top having so far failed to live up to the pre-season hype as the clear and obvious goalkeeping selection in our squads. Given has thus far kept 3 clean sheets in 8 starts, earning 5 points from saves along the way. That ranks him ninth in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings right now, although we feel he now has fixtures in the short-term to boost his points tally and make up ground.

Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is the top scoring keeper in the FPL and, once his trip to the Emirates is disposed of, it’s hard to argue against his appeal of three home games in four from gameweek 10 onwards. He could well topple Given next time around – although arguably the Stoke defence is best covered via the likes of Ryan Shawcross who offers additional goal threat.

Indeed, Shawcross, subject of our Watchlist article last week, is again a climber, a move that almost breaks him into our top five rankings. Strong gameweek 9 fixtures keep both Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Fulham’s John Arne Riise ensconced in fourth and fifth, while above them, the trio of City’s Vincent Kompany, Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga and Liverpool’s Jose Enrique remain settled. The latter has fully justified his number one ranking in recent weeks and, with three very strong consecutive fixtures, looks a clear front-runner for any defensive funds.

It must be said that both Kompany and Bosingwa look less secure. Villa-Boas’ side have kept just a single clean sheet, whilst City embark on a run of opponents that will test their resolve, starting with the trip to Old Trafford this weekend. Both could be set for drops in our Watchlist rankings in the near future, with the likes of Shawcross looking certain to be promoted in our thinking.

The top two spots in our midfielder rankings remain untouched, despite both David Silva and Nani being benched in gameweek 8. Below them, Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart is pushing hard and is beginning to look a real prospect as Spurs embark on a run of opponents that will surely grant them handsome attacking returns. Certainly, with Emmanuel Adebayor competing with a host of established attacking talent in our Fantasy forward lines, Van der Vaart looks a more viable option when it comes to covering Tottenham’s potential.

Bolton’s Martin Petrov came under the Watchlist microscope last week and with good reason – he enjoys a significant climb into our top five placings on the back of decent form and a favourable run of fixtures. At 5.8 in the FPL, it’s difficult to find a better value proposition for the month ahead, unless you’re prepared to take a risk on team-mate Chris Eagles at 5.3.

Fulham’s Clint Dempsey is another prospect enjoying a climb this week – we’ve been studying his numbers carefully and, despite Fulham’s stuttering form, Dempsey’s goal threat remains substantial and indicates that returns could be very much on the agenda in weeks to come.

Established heavy-hitters Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard hover outside out top five – blasts from the pasts, both are enjoying a Fantasy renaissance having regained starting roles. Hugely expensive, the obstacle to investment in clear, although both could provide very strong differentials for those brave enough to invest. Juan Mata and Dirk Kuyt offer more budget friendly coverage of the Chelsea and Liverpool midfield – although both are arguably less explosive. Certainly Mata has yet to deliver the kind of returns we’ve seen from Lampard, while Kuyt’s potential is dented by the loss of spot-kick duties to Gerrard and the Dutchman always under threat of rotation with Andy Carroll kept on the leash.

Amongst the forwards, there really is little movement. Our endorsement of Robin Van Persie over both Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero paid off in gameweek eight, and we’re confident enough in the Arsenal’s skipper’s form and fixtures to leave him in the number one spot. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is also promoted above the Manchester pairing with fixtures over the next three gameweeks that should afford him the potential for significant returns.

Lower down, Gabby Agbonlahor enjoys a slight jump above Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge with stronger fixtures in his favour. They both trail Tottenham’s Adebayor however – he could be a real threat to the established top four if he can stay fit and begin to deliver over his run of favourable opponents.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Here is my Team:
    Given Vorm
    Gabbidon Bosingwa Kompany RTaylor Enrique
    Mata Nasri Moses Banan Brunt
    Suarez RVP Dzeko.

Im in two minds whether I need to WC or not in GW 11/12. Im happy with GK/DEF but MID/FOR could do with a bit of a shuffle.

What do you guys think? WC or else these changes over the next few weeks
    GW9: Nasri -> Petrov (BOL)
    GW10: Dzeko -> Aguero
    GW11: Mata -> Nani
    GW12: Suarez -> Ade

Do I need another big hitter in MF? I only have a team value of 100.5 atm due to a disastrous start.
    Many thanks!

Spurs coverage is worthwhile but not sure about the defence - with King out for a month, cleanies will go astray. Walker, at a push, is their best option at the back.

You need to consider one of VDV or Adebayor in the next couple of weeks I reckon. Downgrading Hart and Richards is the way to go - with Newcastle covered via Simpson, I'd probably look at Richards to Warnock or Shawcross and Hart to Given or Begovic.

Scratching my head on this one for 48 hours now...
    VDV or Gerrard.
I have loads of cash in hand so it's a free swap for one of my cheap mids. It's for just 3 GWs coz I intend to WC on the next int. break.

VDV....don't like this Harry talk at all.

Gerrard....would be doubling up with Suarez.

    Thoughts pls?

if VDV was a certain starter I would say he's the on form player with great fixtures, too soon for gerrard investment really.
but if you think he'll get limited gametime, gerrard has the best possible three games before the break.

Must admit I was a touch surprised to see Gerrard take over corners. I know he's the main man at Pool but Adam probably takes the best corner going

Gerrard doubling up with Suarez is no bad thing at all mate, its exactly what i've done, hell i've even got Enrique in there as well, lol.
I dont think it's too early for Gerrard investment at all really, he's the beating heart of Liverpool, on set pieces, and drives that team home, ok a little overpriced, but after these three fixtures pass i guarentee 11m wont seem a lot for him, he's a must have imo. 🙂

Gerrard is a good bet to invest in, he is always a goal threat and is the main man. I expect that he will go up and up in price but then when he goes into his bad form again.... which is inevitable then get the cash and run to the next best option.

Ohhh big call for you Mark, i dont think nasri is worth it, or Mata in that fact.
I would go with the mental RVP at the moment, he is shining atm and at home to stoke should be a shoe in for some goals. Stoke away are a state.

I have too many city/united players, im just hoping that they have a really good game and score a good few against each other to help me in the points... coz i need it!

haha i hope so, i really really do, i usually start off moderately ok, if not quite rubbish, but then around this time i seem to pick up the pace, just so hope it happens.

Im currently on 391 points, not the best but not bad for thinking ive started badly.

Yeah to be honest i think there will be goals at both ends come sunday, should be a points grabber for sure even though its a tough derby. you'll be fine with too many city & united players for the time being, but maybe look to ship some out slowly to see who is in form for transfers. not a bad thing though.

Mark or other scouts can we please have the ticker load automatically again. Since the change it doesn't work for me at all on the iPhone. Click to load and it just sits there spinning and never loading.

Right I've been up for three days, let's see if I can get some sleep. Cheers all. Nice to get to know some of my rivals teams and owners last couple of days. Back when I wake up.

Used my freebie this week to get rid of Huth and being in Enrique. Larsson suspension stymies me though as it forces me to play Jones or Kompany (also have Moses but...) Have some bank roll and wondering if I should just sit tight and play Jones or upgrade a player

Honestly - I don't see either of those getting more than 2 points this week so flip a coin. Moses shld do better after this week though.

as its quiet...my team for this week below. got 1 free sub. fancy bringing gerrard in, but just dont feel he justifies 11.0, and i dont want to change my current forward line so suarez is not an option

    hennessey
    warnock, simpson, kompany
    brunt, nani, SWP, silva
    rooney, RVP, adebayor

    subs: ruddy, dyer, brown, wilkinson

are you really keeping Kompany in there?
either brown or wilkinson(if he plays) offer better poss. of pts returns

Apart from your keepers it is decent enough. I take it you have a wild card available to use in GW11 to sort that out. Save a transfer and use two next week I reckon. Last chance for SWP and Brown maybe

well i was considering nani & swp -> gerrard & eagles (or ben arfa if he looks like playing) for a 4pt hit but it could easily backfire. just feel nani & rooney might be overspend on utd attack for next couple of weeks fixtures

Is it worth a four point hit to carry out the following transfers:

Ashley Young and Joey Barton out
    Mata and Ramsey in

I'm of the camp that believes Mata is not worth the money. Might be a Modric-like FPL player: clearly important to his team, involved in the build up of most things positive for his team, but too often assisting the assist and too rarely getting in on the actual goals.

With bonus so closely tied to goals, a 9.6m player needs to be scoring. Maybe VDV, Dempsey, or even a strengthened forward line with that cash. I actually went Mata to Bale last week, though its certainly a punt (but the extra money allowed me to go from Graham to Sturridge)

Not to be a dick here, but if someone that expensive needs to score, why do you still have silva?

First, Silva does already have 2 goals this season in the PL and definitely is a goal threat. In the OPTA stats, Silva has the 3rd most goal attempts of any midfielder in the league (and 3rd most again for "shots on target"). As Scotland saw, he's not goal-shy.

Mata's attempts on goal are far worse, lingering around company like Malouda, Duff and Arteta. There are better options than Mata, especially at that price.

But, I have been toying with going Silva to Nasri, simply because I think Nasri would be the bigger goal threat if he played more.

If Nasri becomes as reliable a starter as Silva (either Nasri's starts look more certain, or Silva's rotation increases), I'll maybe consider making the switch.

To be fair, Mata scored a goal as well, so its not like silva has scored way more goals. I would asses both of their goal threats as equal, perhaps more for Mata since he is playing much further forward. The scotland example is perhaps a little extreme: national games are a whole different matter. I will admit I didn't know about that OPTA stat, though. Hmm.

Agree on Nasri. Considering the same.

I didn't expect that Scotland "evidence" to fly -- but I have to admit that it did make me feel more confident in my Silva ownership

    I currently have:
    Vorm/Schwarzer
    Gibbs/Bosingwa/Taylor R
    Mata/Nani/Ramsey/Silva
    Sturridge/VP/Dzeko

I have about 1.7 in the bank, and im wondering as to whether I should replace:
    Dzeko with Suarez
    Nani with Gerrard
    Gibbs with Enrique

I don't mind taking a 4-8pt hit, but I'm worried that if I make these moves, I lose the opportunity in later weeks to get rid of Sturridge because lets face it, Villas-Boas loves Torres and may replace him. But with Drogba's current poor form may not.
    Thoughts?

I like Dzeko to Suarez AND Gibbs to Enrique. Seem like good mid-to-long term moves, which I'm personally willing to spend 4pts on.

Norwich seems to give away Penalties and with suarez in the box is always a constant threat. On that note, how about getting Gerrard for Nani or Mata?

Anyone else think Mancini made a mistake in freezing out Adebayor? He is a pain in the arse but a quality striker and better than Dzeko in my opinion. Dzeko is such a strange player, missed a load of sitters against France last week and then scores a cracker.

I think this sometimes as well but its hard to forget how off Ade seemed at the beginning of last year. Also remember that Mancini thought he'd probably have Tevez for a while and Ade just kinda loses out.

Disagree about Dzeko though. I think he's gonna be good when he matures a bit.

The point I was trying to make was it seems Dzeko is either very good or very poor, doesn''t seem to be any inbetween with him.
