Back after our own international break, I bundle Mark into the studio for another podcast and slap him around the face with my Wildcard.

Rusty after a week of absence, we’re forced to get our tongues contorted around a variety of team names, even more baffling than Mark’s unshakable faith in Victor Moses. Yes, indeed, Wigan’s most unfortunate Fantasy flop gets another airing, with Mark mercilessly banishing the Latics to the Championship – surely the only solution to his blind spot.

What's this about Simspon being finished as a starter? Has someone else come back from injury?

No, just that R Taylor is playing well and Santon is a preferred starter.

We really don't know that, Pardew made a comment praising R Taylor and suggesting it would be possible for him and Santon to play full back - Simpson was also taken off last week for Santon but in a situation in which Newcastle needed a goal. It certainly doesn't look like brilliant news for Simpson owners but my understanding is that Newcastle fans don't rate R Taylor defensively and so it's much too early to write Simpson's starting chances off - particularly as Pardew seems to have a fairly conservative nature.

Attila was saying that Ryan Taylor was more impressive recently, so Simpson is certainly looking a little more risky at the moment. Don't make any silly transfers just yet though, it's just one to watch zee303

I saw something yesterday Greendreams that said Simpson could be off in January. If that is the case I imagine his replacement will be getting more game time. I'll have a look for the story and link it if I find it again.

no, its cool. i believe you. When Atilla was talking about it he didn't think thatwhat happened last Sunday was in any way an indication of what will happen regularly over the coming months . I have Simpson as well but will hold firm until we know whats happening,. Do you think Silva will be rotated more for european games until Mancini feels he has guaranteed qualification. especially when his PL opponents are easily beatable with a 2 rate city team ?

I'm not sure about Stone Roses saving UK music. Arguably New order and later the Happy Mondays were more influencial among the Manchester bands of that time. The influence of John Leckie, the producer of the Stone Roses first album, cannot be underestimated. His knowledge of the same 60s techniques that made the beatles revolver great worked really well with their timeless sound.

When they sacked Leckie on the second album the world saw what the stone roses were, just another band. In the absence of Leckie's creativity all they had to fall back on was Squire's relentless riffs. He was good but no Johnny Marr.

Live they were always better in a smaller venue, that's why they were so popular in Manchester. Anyone who saw them at their mega stadium gigs in their later years will testify that their music is not stadium sized.

Anyway that's my two -penneth. I'm not overly keen that they've reformed. They do not have the sizeable back catalogue of say Blur and Pulp, and certainly lack the stage prescence of those two contemporaries who came back with great success recently.

two penneth indeed jonty, and while i agree with ur setiments r.e. leckie and the 2nd album without the roses their would of been no oasis and the brit pop thang, blur and pulp were great but had no where near the influence of the roses on those that followed!
but sill life is good, life is great and im gonna see the roses again 🙂

I think blur and pulp follow the same kind of line in the history of music as the kinks singing about surburban life, with humour and creativity. Its timeless and fun, which is why their reuniting was so successful.

Stone Roses with Leckie were immense. In interviews Leckie always talks fondly of them and was really impressed with their knowledge inparticular of 60s music. They actually picked him because of his work with XTC's on their 60s alter ego Dukes of Stratosphear. You should check it out if you like Stone Roses.

But ultimately with just one good album, which was influenced by the 60s, even with the same swagger as the Mod bands i don;t think they've got enough in the creativity bank to put in a full and good hour and a half set.

Oasis would have existed without the stone roses. They were essentially a straight rip of the beatles/rolling stones and even The Rutles. They didn't need Stone Roses to do that.

Having said that without the Stone Roses the A&R men from london that had ignored Manchester for most of the 80s probably wouldn't have sought them out.

Greeting from Auckland - they're busy with a wonky ball game here so I'd appreciate some help with my team for this weekend.

Some deadweight to be shifted (Taarabt for a start) but hoping to get away with leaving it for this week so I've got 2 freebies next week for VDV/Adebayor/Walters/Eherington:

    Given
    Hughes | Ward | Bosingwa | S Taylor (Kompany)
Ramsey | Bannan | Silva (Taarabt, Brunt)
    Best | RVP(c) | Suarez

I'm not an owner of either and I wouldn't want to be to be honest. Petrov hasn't scored that great and Brunt is very inconsistent. If I was pushed, I would make the transfer, but I'd probably take a punt on Eagles, even with rotation, over Petrov

So..finally Deans plays Barnes at inside centre..no coincidence that we played our best Rugby with him there, even with Beale and Cooper injured, we would have killed the Welsh if Beale and Cooper stayed on.
However, they have done very well to get 4th place!

Agreed regarding Barnes....but the fact is Wales are deflated after last week. We were too good to be contesting 3rd spot with the likes of the under achieving Aussies. Should have been in the final playing against the only other team that could live with us.

So less of the patronising chitter chatter about little old wales "well done for getting 4th blah blah". We were robbed last week and had todays game been actually worth anything and we had our captain playing we would have done the aussies.

Did we lose to France....really, do you know what I thought it was just a bad dream.

Wales were the most prepared team out there next to the All blacks...fact.

Last week we lost due to a crazy a55 decesion to a Irish Ref with French connections....if you can't see that we were robbed then you are a muppet. Plus we were the better side with 14 men and could have snatched it!

This was a nothing game and the fact that you are happy with your results shows the level of ambition on your chaps. Enjoy 3rd, truth is that wasn't good enough for us...so enjoy the prize that nobody wanted Jack off

Haha okay well then... you did lose, it wasn't just a bad dream.
Last week it was a clearly shocking tackle, whether it deserved a sending off is arguable, but the fact is..it was against France for f*ck sake, they aren't exactly a tough opposition.
I never, ever said I was happy with 3rd you are quite clearly putting words into my mouth you muppet, it is better than 4th however, obviously.
The fact that we played our worst football in at least 3 years, and still managed to come 3rd, clearly shows signs of things to come.

The only problem there is Vorm is in goals and if they didn't keep a CS I could be in trouble.

Think you're in trouble regardless mate! Don't like the chances of either keeper grabbing a CS to be honest, but Vorm is your better bet, and Taylor's only a sub after all.

True, changing Kenny to Ruddy next week. Not really improving my GK but will let me upgrade Ferguson. I will rotate my two keeper and hope for the best. If not one of my big ones will have to go. Whats your thought?

Guys, would appreciate some advice on who to start in my team and the order of subs, my transfers this week were Senderos and SWP to Enrique and Ramsey.

Luckily did the Senderos to Enrique transfer before Senderos went down by 0.1 and Enrique up by 0.1.

    I'm thinking:

    Given
    Bosingwa Simpson Enrique Kompany
    Ramsey Silva Nani
    RvP(c) Adebayor Suarez (vc)

    Subs: Dyer Moses Brown

Should I play 4 at the back? In other words who should play and be first sub out of Kompany, Moses and Dyer?

Don't play Kompany this week - when was the last time United failed to score? Switch Kompany for Dyer and you're all good.

Raffle your subs, unlikely to get much from any of them this week! Maybe Brown first sub as Bolton are the least potent opponent of the three?

I'm thinking Dyer as my opponent has him and is likely to play him as his other budget midfielder is Ferguson. What about Moses a clever differential or will Dyer be more likely to outscore him, bearing in mind I have Simpson too?

He is the bargain of the season should be 9 million at least on form

He is competing with anelka for 1 spot.

Torres and drogba dont play well in the same team so they compete fo the central role

Who is best to go with Vorm for the next ten weeks or so? Just had a look at Kenny's fixtures and tbh only WBA looks likely for a cleanie. Got .8 in the bank so could swap to Begovic or Schwarzer or Given? Don't know the rotation off the top of my head though.

Morning all. Looking to overhaul my defence in the coming weeks (injuries and suspensions allowing). I would have a budget of about £25m for my 5 man defence. I want to concentrate on guaranteed minutes and attacking threat as I'm of the belief that chasing clean sheets is a bit of a wild goose chase. Anyone want to throw any names at me to include in my new defensive line-up?

VDV is tricky. I've been having this debate over the last few days on this site. I've got him and he's bound to pick up points and yet I'm still a little nervous!

I'd keep Roonpig (although there are plenty of people on here that would disagree) and go with Sturridge and RVP myself. It's definitely a tricky one though! 🙂
