Our Watchlist rankings, listing player recommendations for the next three-to-four Gameweeks, have now been updated ahead of Gameweek 10 and are available in the sidebar as always. Read on for a summary of this week’s significant gains and losses.

As anticipated in last week’s Watchlist update, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic climbs to the top of the goalkeeper rankings with three home fixtures in four to come. In truth, Begovic has very little opposition, with Wigan’s Ali Al Habsi the only low-to-mid price option facing up to favourable fixtures over the next month. City’s Joe Hart ranks second, offering a route to City clean sheets without a real threat of rotation. Further down, Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet offers an alternative value proposition with his three Stadium of Light encounters in the next four Gameweeks.

The defender rankings have shifted markedly since last week, with Newcastle’s assets now omitted from our thinking, ahead of their punishing schedule. Both Liverpool’s Jose Enrique and Chelsea’s Jose Boswingwa suffer drops in the rankings, allowing City’s Vincent Kompany to claim top spot with his stronger fixtures. Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross and Tottenham’s Kyle Walker climb into the top three for very different reasons- the pair have good schedules ahead of them, although while Shawcross offers clean sheet potential, Walker’s appeal is definitely in attacking quarters, having proved an effective weapon down Harry Redknapp’s right-flank.

United’s Phil Jones holds his position, although there is some doubt over his starting role having been dropped to the bench against City. Should he edge his way back into Alex Ferguson’s plans, we can expect a climb in our rankings with strong United fixtures to come. Other candidates in Ferguson’s rearguard may also feature, although right now, with Everton away next, the likes of Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic represent expensive gambles.

Budget options such as Sunderland’s Wes Brown, Norwich’s Leon Barnett and Bolton’s Dedryck Boyata are all prospects to consider, as we look to clear funds out of our defences. Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson is perhaps the most intriguing option in this price bracket however – he looks to have cemented the right-back role and should start again when Newcastle visit the Britannia on Monday. Tonight’s Carling Cup team-sheet from Tony Pulis should offer some further clues on that.

Rafael Van der Vaart climbs to the top of the most wanted list in our midfield rankings with strong form and fixtures to come. His ascent coincides with United’s slip in form, which has seen Nani fall out of favour with some Fantasy managers. In second spot, the threat of rotation hangs over the sublime David Silva, as he goes into the weekend clash with Wolves ahead of the Champions League tie in Villareal next week.

Below the United and City heavyweights, the likes of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey, Stoke’s Jon Walters and Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon all offer good mid-price options. Everton’s Royston Drenthe, so devastating at the Cottage on Sunday, makes his first appearance in the rankings and is another intriguing alternative as David Moyes’s side embark on a kind run of opponents.

With Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Juan Mata and Clint Dempsey all facing up to tougher schedules in the coming weeks, their prices see them drop in our reckoning. Below them, a second tier of mid-price offerings stack up, headed by West Brom’s skipper Chris Brunt.

The forward rankings include familiar names as always and, at the top, it’s no surprise to see Robin Van Persie hold firm. A trip to Stamford Bridge could put the buffers on his recent charge, although fixtures to follow that should see him recover fully in the month ahead.

Wayne Rooney should slip back into vogue as his fixtures improve considerably once the trip to Goodison has passed this weekend. The United man is favoured to Sergio Aguero this week, purely due to the questions mark surrounding the Argentine’s start against Wolves.

Emmanuel Adebayor is the big climber – he shifts above the misfiring Luis Suarez, with the Tottenham striker enjoying strong mid-term fixtures. Suarez owners will hope for returns against West Brom and then Swansea in Gameweek 11 – beyond that, things stiffen up for Liverpool and the Uruguayan.

Nicklas Bendtner is another striker enjoying a boost in the rankings – his three home fixtures arrive on the back of some very strong form since he snuggled back under the wing of Steve Bruce. The Dane arguably offers greater security than City’s Mario Balotelli, as uncertainty in Roberto Mancini’s front line continues to dent the potential of both Balotelli and Edin Dzeko.

Fernando Torres is one notable omission, we will wait on his display against Arsenal this weekend, although with Daniel Sturridge offering a route to the Chelsea attack at a far cheaper price, the Spaniard looks hard to justify ahead of the likes of Rooney, Van Persie and Aguero.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Agreed, things get like that on here it seems, and even more so. Suddenly something thats nothing more than supposition is being propagated as fact!

Chances are that Aguero will play around 60 mins. Sure he might not do, but then the same can be said of many other players. I dont currently have him, but im tempted to bring him in, as the risk of not having him might be greater if he scores heavily.

Seems to me that the best thing to do is Captain Aguero and VC Rooney/Someone else.

I'm more concerned about Silva. Because if he gets rotated out my midfield would have to be 4 strong (barton, nani, mata, dyer) with 3 up front. This means I have to choose between subbing RVP, Bongy or Suarez for Rooney/Aguero!

              Arrrggghhhh!!!

The fact of the matter remains that fantasy managers want results not possibilities. Aguero remains a risk of rotation as long as Balotelli and Dzeko continue to score. Eradicate your dilemma by having both of them.

Don't bother with Cabaye now. Newcastle's fixtures very tough going forward. Can you afford Ramsey?

I don't have any City strikers either and personally I'm terrified there will be carnage against Wolves and i'll miss out. Reckon I'm going to keep an eye on who plays tonight out of Balotelli and Dzeko and then pick the other one for Saturday as the likely starter alongside Ageuro.

Without taking the piss? That's going to be tough.

When a player rises in your team you only get half the value. So if he goes up by 0.2m it adds 0.1m onto the price you can sell him for.

Certainly. Basically if a player drops in price you lose the value.

If a player rises in price you only gain HALF of the rise from the price you paid.

example 1 : Bought player for 10.0 Rises to 10.1 Sale price 10.0
example 2 : Bought player for 10.0 Falls to 9.9 Sale price 9.9
example 3 : Bought player for 10.0 Rises to 10.2 Sale price 10.1
example 4 : Bought player for 10.00 Rises to 10.3 Sale price still 10.1 (He would need to rise to 10.4 before you culd sell for 10.2)

He's such a waste of 6.1, so I'd rather just get rid of him for someone cheaper but who does the business. I watched the Chelsea game and he doesn't even get on with his team mates anymore. Rooney has lovely fixtures coming up. You will be glad you kept him.

Season keeper as far as I'm concerned.

I'm just going with Silva for now, may add Milner in a few weeks time. City strikers, even without Tevez are maddeningly unpredictable.

Cat well and truly out of the bag! All the top choices in the article went straight into my wildcard team on Monday morning, although I prefer Assou-Ekotto for Walker.

I have to get it out there as well and say; I’m not a knee jerker but I felt I had to exact my revenge on Bos and Drogba for getting sent off for and ruining any chance of a respectable score.

Also, can anybody shed any light on why Rooney is taking up what is effectively a central midfield role? He ended up there against City and when he came on against Liverpool. He’s gone in the bin for Van Persie.

Were you around here last year? Rooney is playing in the Fabregas role, when Chicarito is on the field. Huge, I mean really huge debate last year, I don't want to start it again.

he pretty much plays there with Welbeck in the team too. He just drops deeper against the bigger teams because we are unlikely to have the ball as much.

I said ealrier this year that Hernandez would outscore Rooney. Wellbeck seems to have put paid to that.

If only Hernandez played every game my Man U coverage would be sorted.

Cheers, I didn't see it debated on here. I had seen Rooney playing deeper last season, basically in the Scholes role, but this season it seems even more withdrawn.

Not sure about him getting back to form quickly, especially if he does end up playing more withdrawn and that’s even with what is a very kind run of fixtures. In the last 2 games he has looked disinterested again, like last season before he got shipped off to the US. Might be well off, but his form really does seem to take a hit when his personal life does.

Think that's more a reflection on Man U playing poorly than a tactical choice. He tends to drop deeper and deeper when he gets frustrated and starved of service up front.

For me Rooney blows hot or cold (especially in fantasy terms). When MU play badly he drops far to deep to score big FF points. On the other hand, when he hits a purple patch you better get on that bandwagon before it's too late!

    RMT:

    Given Vorm
Enrique Shawcross Boyata Simpson A hughes
    Silva Adam Brunt Ramsey Dyer
    RVP Aguero Suarez

Only 0.1 mil in the bank

I want to get VDV in somehow so I'm thinking of dropping Adam for him and selling Brunt and getting a midfielder below 5 mil to raise the funds

Who should I change Brunt for?

I was dead-set on keeping him for wba SWA, but anyone thinking of getting rid? Could get Aguero this week for a 4 pointer - City are scoring for fun, Pool are not.

West Brom away will be tougher than people think. They are playing well. That said, it's not like Suarez is playing badly. Unfortunately he's just a very frustrating player. Signs point to a big score in coming weeks.

Like you I'm very tempted to get rid for Balotelli or Dzeko (can't afford Kun) as I can see it being carnage against Wolves but will make that decision last minute Sat morning I reckon.

The only problem with this is Aguero is at risk of rotation.

However I think with the Wolves game in the cup tonight Mancini will take the opportunity to rest Aguero there and I think he will still get 60-70 mins home against Wolves who are leaking goals.

I would say it`s too risky especially for a 4 point hit. If you get solid info that Aguero will start then it could be worth it.

I'm keeping Suarez. I have Silva, if I spent money bringing Aguero in and neither he or Silva started I`d feel like a twit.

Trying to second guess Mancini is impossible but I would be very surprised if Aguero, Balotelli or Silva completed 90 mins this weekend. They are likely to be cruising by halftime and even if you get lucky and your chosen City player(s) starts it is highly possible he (they) won`t make the 60 minute mark.

I'd keep him. with Champions league on the horizon and the wealth of quality options city have it's a big risk to take a hit to get him in.
I have Aguero and I'm very worried he'll be rested for a game (WOL) that he would surely score big in

    Ruddy (Given)
    Kompany/Enrique/S Taylor (R Taylor) (Brown)
    Silva/Sinclair/Adam/Mata (B Johnson)
    RVP/Adebayor/Agbonlahor

0.9m in the bank and 1 free transfer.

Was thinking Shawcross for R Taylor and then play Shawcross ahead of S Taylor this week.
Leaving Johnson and Brown on the bench even though they have home fixtures, but can't really work them in to my team at present, to be honest.

I'm playing Agbonlahor and if I can avoid it, I don't like having strikers playing defenders as you are limiting your returns. Obviously it has to be done sometimes, but I'd say that the chances of a clean sheet are only very marginally more for Brown than Taylor/Enrique, and the latter also offer more attacking threat.

    Hello guys,

Need some advice on transfers for this week, please:

    Vorm / Al-Habsi
    Kompany / ShawX / Ward / S.Taylor / J.Enrique
    M.Petrov / Nani / N.Dyer / Silva / Murphy
    RVP / Adebayor / Suarez

    1 FT/1.2M in bank.

How can i improve that midfield? I really need N.Dyer out of my life, deadwood in my team. I want a 6.0m mid, but 5.8 can only get me Brunt (terrible run). What to do?

Save the transfer this week (play Dyer), then with the 2 freebies next week you've got more room to maneuver, i.e. Ward or Enrique or STaylor & Dyer out for Walters or Drenthe maybe?

I wouldn't worry too much about Dyer. You need a £4.5m man in your team to accommodate bigger names and there aren't that many better options out there IMO.

Look more at getting rid of Murphy I think. He got subbed off in their home loss to Everton so presumably Jol wasn't impressed.

Sess would be a good option as a replacement. Sunderland due a good run and by all accounts he looked more comfortable back on the wing in their win last weekend.

Have you watched any Sunderland games/seen highlights this season? This comment suggests that you've clicked 'history' on his profile and seen all the 1 and 2 pointers.

He's not been amazing, I'm not suggesting that, but he's been far from awful and has had plenty of goal threat! It's just last week it started to count for something (statistically).

Fantasy football isn't about how many points a player has scored in the past, it's about how many you think they will get in the future.

Nope, seen him play a couple of times...against Newcastle and Norwich and he was dire. You say he's dangerous, but his shooting is woeful and rarely finds the target.

Interesting that people are now saying that the move out wide will suit him (based on one match), when I bet these were the same people who at the start of the season were saying the move up front from the wing will suit him.

        Wouldn't touch him at all.

It's the position he played towards the end of last seaosn and preseason and score and fair amount of goals and assists for a cheaper mid option...
