Three home matches in the next four have propelled Jonathan Walters up the Watchlist rankings, as Stoke continue to build on progress that has seen them successfully establish themselves in the Europa League, whilst maintaining solid league form.

Although Tony Pulis’ side may have struggled on their travels, their performances at the Britannia have been a different matter altogether. Stoke have conceded just a single goal in their four home games so far and, while their defence will no doubt receive some heavy Fantasy interest, Walters has arguably made a bigger impression than the Potters rearguard.

Nine Gameweeks into the season and the Republic of Ireland international, thanks in part to his role up front, is the top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) prospect in the Stoke City squad with a total of 43 points.

A breakdown of his Britannia returns thus far make for interesting reading – 2 goals, 3 clean sheets and a strong 7 bonus points; he’s failed to bank bonus in just one of his home fixtures to date, the season opener against Chelsea. Bonus has come against Liverpool (2), Man United (2) and Fulham (3)- in front of the Potters faithful, indicating that Walters’ game is clearly suited to the new EA SPORTS PPI scoring system.

At just 6.1 in the FPL, Walters costs less than the injury-prone Matt Etherington (6.4) and has just 5.7% ownership right now. With spot-kick duties also seemingly in the bag, he’s looking a strong proposition ahead of a run of games that sees him face Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR at the Britannia.

Walters warmed up for next Monday’s clash with Newcastle by grabbing an assist in Stoke’s 2-1 defeat by Liverpool last night and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed. Clearly, his eye for goal is in right now and Pulis will be reliant on him to deliver as the Potters look to bounce back from their Carling Cup exit.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Think i may sell Silva somewhere down the line. He's continuously rising in price, to the point i'm thinking it's better to cash in and get a VDV or Nani. At his price now, he'd have to be a serious consideration for captaincy most weeks, but he's not that type of player imo

    My other defenders are Jones, Kompany, Enrique and Simpson

    Given Hilario
    Jones Kompany Enrique Hughes Simpson
    Silva VDV Ramsey Dyer Moses
    Rooney Suarez Sturridge

    Long term, I was thinking:

    Hilario --> Vorm
    Hughes --> Shawross
    Jones --> Smalling
    Suarez --> Balotelli/Dzeko

        Evening to you Sir! Always very welcoming. This FPL business is darn tricky isn't it? I was listening to some old podcasts from 09 10 (obsessed, I know) and it was interesting how Mark/Granville discussed what was another crisis in the CS department (I didn't play before last season). 5 CS in the past 2 GW (1 being QPR v Chels) has bought me round to forget about exp. defenders and focus on attacking captain choices. Integral to this new policy would be the likes of McAuley. There's a friendly chap called Jafalad who is in favour of this strategy and I think I'm convinced. Seeing Bos and K makes our teams ''look'' great but is there are a more efficient way to gain major point hauls?

    Demi, I read your post top of page and it got me thinking.. I currently have Silva and Adebayor (have had both since their starting prices, thus have gained a nice profit on both) and am now wondering whether to do both Silva and Adebayor > VDV and Aguero in the coming gameweeks.

    The latter, I feel, provides 2 proven and reliable Captain candidates, as opposed to Silva and Adebayor who I'll also have small doubts when/if I Captain them.

    Anyone else thinking similarly?

      Not sure that you don't need to WC actually.

      How many of your expensive defenders will you play every week? As a result you have 1 MF'er who never plays, 1 who gets you 2 points every week, one who is underperforming for Bolton and another who isn't justifying his £9.6m price tag in fantasy points terms.

      A WC would allow you to refocus a lot if the money on your defence into the MF area. I don't know your world ranking, but I'd guess, Silva aside, your MF is what's letting you down most weeks?

      Villa's fixtures get nasty in 3 GW's time so you won't really have much use for Warnock, you could downgrade him at a £4m defender. You need some Man Utd cover too.

      WC's just for DGW's sake are bulls**t as far as I'm concerned. They invariably end up in disappointment and you're then stuck with a load of players you don't necessarily want going forward.

      WC is to make the kind of adjustments you want to make in one fell swoop without taking points hits. If you plan well then you can get enough DGW cover with your free weekly transfers without needing to use a WC.

        Thanks Nomar, I appreciate your comments! I need to ditch 6-7 imo! GW11 looks an ideal time to hit the WC button, so Ill hold fire till then, probably pick up Nani/Young for Mata this week, depending who starts.

        Fine logic....but a couple of weeks ago everyone was wildcarding to get in Mata et al so the message here is things turn on a week by week basis. Im not one who practices what I preach mind (I WC in week 2!) but you should WC when you really really really need to not just to do a nice reshuffle to fit the latest trend/craze/wagon.

        Thanks for the vote of confidence Nomar. WCing now and desperate not to waste it. Can't just stubbornly wait for DGWs. If they do arrive they can be lethal like last year, but usually them seem to disappoint.

        The main focus is to make future transfers easier and move funds from DF into MF.

          I think you're doing the right thing.

          I WC'd 2 weeks ago when everyone else was saying not to, but at the end of the day its my team and I know what I wanted to have and what I actually had and wasn't happy with things.

          Plus, the longer you leave it the more expensive the players you will want to get in will be.

          As for Laurel's comments, several weeks ago many of us on here were discussing whether Mata was worth the money. With guys like VdV and Nani you know what you're getting. Mata has not proven anything yet other than that he's a great player who seems to have the same problem Silva had last season of assisting the assister.

          Really, if you need to take anything more than an 8 point hit you really should be considering a wildcard in my opinion. The whole point of the WC is to avoid you having to take big points hits like that.

          Once you set your team up all you need to do thus forward is make tweaks.

          Nothing worse than saving a wildcard and deciding to tweak your team slowly then watching all the players you could have afforded to have gotten in on a wild card score a ton of points whilst your still holding onto deadwood and getting red arrows every week.

        Sinclair has a weak Bolton defence at home in what already looks like a potential 6 pointer.

        Kenny said at the beginning of the season he would have to carefully manage Suarez's fitness so if he has the slightest niggle, 3 games in a week and 2 days rest, Carroll Kuyt and Bellamy should be enough for West Brom. Obviously hope he starts, it seems Dalglish see's Carling Cup as only chance of glory lol!

          Bale, like Modric, is a superb player but does not translate to Fantasy for whatever reason(s). I spose part of the skill of this game is to avoid players like those and select the points magnets such as Lamps/Walters who are kind of the opposite.

    M. Petrov, Silva, Young, Mata (Reo Coker)

    Have 3.3 in the bank. Is it worth an 8 point hit to do Bosingwa>Shawcross, Young>VDV, Agbonlahor>Aguero? I don’t think I can do it tomorrow as I have the exact funds to do these 3 moves right now, and probably VDV will rise.
