Our Watchlist rankings have recently been updated and are available for your consideration in the sidebar. Read on for details of this week’s talking points, as Steve Bruce’s Sunderland emerge as an unlikely source of talent at both ends of the park…

Michel Vorm’s Anfield heroics see him restored to top spot in our goalkeeper rankings. While Man United visit the Liberty Stadium in gameweek 12, that’s the first of three home games in four for the Swans, with Villa and Fulham surrounding an away trip to Ewood Park. Still available for 4.5 and 10 points ahead of Pepe Reina at the top of the FPL scoring charts, the Dutchman remains strong value and is surely set to build on his 23% ownership over the international break.

While Swansea’s back four- having conceded just a single goal at home- continue to offer value, the Sunderland defence also has fixtures to make them an intriguing option. Kieren Westwood comes into our thinking now. With Simon Mignolet facing a lengthy spell out with a damaged eye socket, the former Coventry stopper will be between the sticks for three home encounters in four. The Black Cats provided a stubborn obstacle for United at Old Trafford and, with John O’Shea potentially returning to bolster Steve Bruce’s rearguard, the chances of a couple of clean sheets in the next month look good. Certainly at 4.4, Westwood offers value to rival Vorm.

Sunderland’s potential is represented by Wes Brown within our defender rankings – the former United man takes his place in our top five, sitting under Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson, with Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Leighton Baines of Everton. That pairing come from nowhere to top our rankings, with strong fixtures and a substantial attacking threat in their locker.

Vermaelen demonstrated his worth in the 3-0 win over West Brom at the weekend and, having netted 7 goals in the 2009/10 season, has the pedigree to notch strong returns now he’s back and available to Arsene Wenger.

As for Baines, his attacking threat is undoubted – both in terms of his supply of crosses from the left-flank and his quality at dead-ball situations. The emergence of Royston Drenthe may have reduced Baines’ influence from set-plays but he still remains the top attacking Fantasy defender. With four very strong home encounters to come in the next six Gameweeks, you have to feel that, if Baines is going to deliver this season, this forthcoming window could well be his time to shine.

The big movers in our midfield rankings are somewhat predictable. Bolton’s Chris Eagles has attracted big investment following his two-goal haul against Stoke at the weekend. Lower down the rankings, mid-price prospects Stephane Sessegnon and Anthony Pilkington also enjoy boosts following recent form, as does Joe Allen in the budget bracket.

We have Allen’s team-mate Scott Sinclair ranked above him and in our top five; with three home games in four and consecutive goals in his last three Liberty Stadium matches, we fancy Sinclair to go on delivering. Just below him, the aforementioned Royston Drenthe is an interesting differential, with just 1% ownership and the fixtures to bring the best out of his explosive talent.

The form of both Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard is hard to ignore, despite their price tags, and while Aaron Ramsey is kept just outside our top five, he will surely prosper from Arsenal’s continued run of kind opponents going into December. It’s no surprise to see David Silva and Rafael Van der Vaart hold the top two spots.

Similarly, Robin Van Persie looks a permanent fixture on top of our forward rankings right now. With 10 goals in his last 6 gameweeks, there’s been no sign of the Dutchman letting up and, with strong fixtures in front of him, it could take an injury to derail the Arsenal skipper.

Van Persie’s rivals are struggling right now. Sergio Aguero has just a single goal and assist in his last five appearances for Man City, with team-mate Edin Dzeko now jumping above him in the FPL scoring charts. The Bosnian has two competitive matches before gameweek 12, keeping him below the Argentine in our rankings for now.

Wayne Rooney’s decline has been well documented on these pages and his potential remains limited by a new short-term role in the United midfield. Rooney may return to the forward line at Swansea but, even so, that’s a fixture that will prove tricky for a United side struggling for attacking fluency. Javier Hernandez is placed higher in our reckoning right now and, at 10.0 in the FPL, offers coverage in Sir Alex Ferguson’s lineup for those looking to invest in United’s favourable run of opponents.

Again, it’s Sunderland that provide perhaps the most interesting twist on things here. Nicklas Bendtner is widely criticised and has done little to justify his inflated self-belief. Even so, 3 assists, 2 goals and 5 bonus points has seen him make a decent start at the Stadium of Light and, with beatable opposition in front of him over the next four, he looks set to add to that tally.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Very annoying timing for that wildcard , would of prefered it in the next few weeks.
Everyone will load up on everton and tottenham , then use the wildcard to lose them all.
Takes lots of the skill away.

Hopefully the weather will cause lots of disruption this winter, always good to test out the best managers

Westwood instead of Given, dont double up on Newcastle soo Taylor to Wilkinson, Arsenals defense sucks Vermaelen to Jones, Baines is horrible value this year I would get Mcauley instead of him or Hibbert if you intend on getting Everton defender.
With the money saved you could upgrade Ferguson to Ramsay, or Drenthe. Also would upgrade Graham- Maybe to Bentner or Hoilett

Yeah well you can do that, and in some cases it may pay off. But if you look at scoring defenders stats, than it is very streaky and unless the teams defense is doing well you may suffer. Examples: Cahill, Baines, Vidic

I think its pretty awful. No point doubling on NEw def, cash in. Ferguson? When the arctic sets in and games are being called off subs are key. Vermaelen, not keen. Better value out there. Graham taking a stiker spot is a waste. You have no Chelsea or Sunderland which I would think you have to have at least one of. The Rest is ok. My opinion is downgrade Verm and upgrade Ferguson or Graham.

Vermaelen is a good option as arsenal defence with him is likely to keep CS's in about 3 of 5 matches and he'll also add u a goal in 1 of 5 matches .......so with arsenal's easy fixtures ahead he's worth having n this website agrees with me check the side bar

about an hour to price change time. It looks like another day without rise.

Walker and Krul are the most probable to rise but still look a bit short of transferred in.

For drop : Tiote, Aguero, A.Hughes were over -100% for a few days. Nobody know exactly and the drop could happen anytime. Jagielka and Osman are approaching the drop soon too.

Nani, Mata, and Ade still safe from price drop.. 🙂

    RMWCT?
Sorted my WC team with about 0.2 to spare + any extra from price rises. Until I make last minute alterations:

    Vorm/Westwood
    Enrique, Simpson, Wilkinson, Naylor, BAE
    VdV, Silva, Lampard, Pilks, Drenthe
    RVP, Dzeko, Ba

Brought in Westwood, Wilks, Naylor, BAE, Lampard, Pilks, Drethe, Dzeko for Given, ShawX, Anton Ferd, Kompany, Sinclair, Moses, Ramsey, Suarez.

I think Lampard is a good shout at the moment, he's probably worth the extra 2 mil on Mata, though I have slashed the defence to make room for him upgraded from Sinclair.

Only decision left is which mid price midfielders to bring in for ~11.4 total, currently Pilks/Drenthe but still considering keeping Ramsey or bringing any of Eagles/Walters/O'Hara in. Not Sess, I had enough of him on the early season Bandwagon.

    Any thoughts?

I like it alot very different to most but still can see that team raking in the points. Wouldnt have the balls to go for that team myself tbh so good on you. Only thing is i would really consider sess he is the more nailed on than Drente and is actually producing now and with there Sunderlands fixtures its hard to ignore him.

2 free transfers and 0.4m in the bank.

    a) Just Given -> Westwood and save the 2nd transfer
    b) Given & Aguero -> Westwood & Rooney (in light of Aguero injury concern)
    c) Something else

    Given
    Brown, Wilkinson, Woodgate
    Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Adebayor

    Ruddy, Sinclair, Dunne, Simpson

Don't transfer Aguero out just yet, he's got a week and a half to recover, he might be fine.
Westwood is tempting as a keeper, but you don't have Vorm, who is producing the save points hugely, though im not sure ho he rotates with ruddy. But then, who cares, play him every week 😛
Westwood would mean doubling up on the SUN defense.

Also i'm not sure about holding onto Moses, though if you just make the one transfer this week, next week you could transfer him out after his Blackburn game.

      Not a bad team though.

        Cheers for the reply.

I have 0.3m left in the bank after the Given/Aguero -> Westwood/Rooney so could probably afford to wait.

I'd probably play Westwood for the next 4 weeks and then look to bring in Krul for Ruddy around GW16.

I quote fancy Rooney to unleash on Swansea next w/e due to being left out of the England squad. Also, Aguero may not be risked if not 100% by the w/e and his fixtures after that are pretty tough (whereas Rooney's are great).

Would probably do Dunne & Moses -> BAE & Pilks in GW14.

      I'll plump for C.

      A - I'm worried about Wilko starting.
      B.-Gabbidon is injury prone
C - McAuley 4.0 two reasonable home fix coming up; seems assured of a start within perhaps a tighter WBA defence this year
D.- you have Vorm so you'd be doubling up. I have the same combo but I'm gambling on SWN's continuation to be miserly at home.

Hi Jafa, sorted out your transfers for this GW yet?

Any ideas for my lot? Thinking either Given -> Westwood or Given & Aguero -> Westwood & Rooney. Have 2 freebies so not point hits involved....

    Given
    Woodgate, Brown, Wilkinson
    Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Adebayor

    Ruddy, Sinclair, Dunne, SImpson

I'm on my WC now and I tell you the first thing I did- Get rid of bloody Moses!

And it felt great. I suggest you do the same to be honest. he's had great fixtures and done nothing for 10 GWs now.

        I'd do Woodgate/Dunne>McAuley
        Moses>Eagles/Drenthe/Walters/Sess (what can you afford?)

    Vorm (Ruddy
    Jones, Simpson/Turner, Wilkinson/ Monk
Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Sessegnon/ Arfa (probably be eagles of clev for a couple of weeks)
    RVP, Rooney, Bendtner

I like it but I'm not sure if I'd put some much money into DF. there just arent enough cleanies around this season to warrant it. If you dropped Enrique and/or Komp you could consider Allen>Drenthe/Walters/Sess who have great fixtures and should be better than Allen in both the short and long term.

Also I'm not sure about Ade (form) and Agbon (fixtures). But I'm on a WC myself and am struggling on who to choose upfront alongside RVP. Bendtner is provisonally in and I'm open minded the other

Why is Rooney's target NTI set to -83,170? I don't think he was flagged at any point was he? I knew that the NTI increase with every drop in one gameweek, but I thought that it was reset for the next? I'm hoping he drops by 0.2m in time for the Newcastle game.

No CHS? 6/10 at home with away days at WOL and WIG thrown in. Kind of feel the midpark needs an extra "heavy" - can you work Mata in there or go with Sturridge upfront?

Yeh but if you look at the team it is filled with teams with great fixtures.

Chelsea are a little hot and cold this year wouldnt you say? and outside of Lamps (too expensive) it's hard to secure a consistent points scorer.

If Sturridge starts showing a bit of form I'll happily trade him for Bendtner though

    Vorm (Habsi)
Enrique Jones Rtaylor (de laet Boyata)
    Silva VDV Ramsey Pilkington (brunt)
    Suarez Adebayor RVP

-most likely would like to lose brunt for sinclair/sessegnon/ohara/drenthe

-wouldnt mind getting a bargain striker and grabbing bale/arteta/dempsey
