Gabby Agbonlahor picks up a hamstring strain in England training. Connor Wickham’s knee injury is not as bad as first feared, Sergio Aguero suffers a groin strain, while the Premier League announce a double gameweek just in time for the January wildcards.

Gabby Agbonlahor has this morning been ruled out of England’s weekend clash with Spain due to a hamstring problem. The Villa forward picked up the problem in training yesterday and while it is not thought to be a serious injury, he has withdrawn from the squad and travelled back to the Midlands for further treatment. It’s the last thing Alex McLeish will have wanted to hear, as Villa prepare to face four of last season’s top six in the next six games.

It has been confirmed that Sergio Aguero is definitely out of Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Bolivia. The lineup has been announced and while technical director Alejandro Sabella told the Argentinian Football Association the striker has a sore groin, subsequent reports indicate it is nothing more than a spasm or strain, with Aguero yet to be ruled out of the midweek match against Columbia.

Wolves’ recent move to 4-5-1 seems to have sparked Jamie O’Hara’s season into life. The midfielder has scored three goals in four games in all competitions while tucked in just behind Kevin Doyle, with a calf injury keeping Steven Fletcher sidelined. With the latter now returning to full training, Mick McCarthy has a dilemma on his hands and O’Hara seems determined to keep his new position:

Playing in the hole, you get chances and if you get in the right areas at the right time, the ball does come to you. I’ve got an eye for a goal and hopefully I can just keep doing that and keep putting in good performances. I got another goal and hopefully now I can just keep getting on the scoresheet.

Last Sunday saw David Edwards grab a goal in his first full game of the season for Wolves as Big Mick’s side grabbed a crucial win over Wigan. The midfielder has been hampered by a hereditary back problem and has admitted that if the issue continues to blight his career, he may be forced into a re-think:

On the left, on the lower part of my spine, the disc is more or less gone and narrowed so the bones are closer together and it caused a fracture. I base a lot of my game on getting around the pitch and I worried it would take that away. If it had to be a choice of carry on for another five years and then not be able to move when I’m older, it would be something I’d look at.

There was some good news on the injury front for Connor Wickham today. Sunderland announced he has not suffered any serious damage to his knee, after further tests allayed initial fears. The striker will now undertake a rehabilitation programme as he recovers from the injury.

The Premier League yesterday confirmed a new date for the previously postponed Tottenham-Everton game. The match will now take place on Wednesday 11th January, or gameweek 20 to Fantasy managers, meaning Spurs have (WBA, EVE) while the Toffees have (BOL, tot). Our season ticker has now been updated to reflect the change in fixture schedule. The Premier League have confirmed this means we won’t be able to take advantage of our January wildcards for the double gameweek, though- they come into play after 11.30 on the 2nd January, just after the gameweek 20 deadline closes.

Newcastle issued an injury update ahead of next weekend’s game against Man City. Shola Ameobi is making good progress from a hamstring injury, while Leon Best has joined up with the Republic of Ireland squad, allaying fears that his groin problem is not too much of an issue. The club’s assistant manager John Carver went on to confirm that Cheik Tiote is back running in training, with the club also awaiting results of scans on Yohan Cabaye’s groin problem. Mike Williamson is set to spend at least another five weeks on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

Brunt in for me this week, he doesn't need Odemwingie and Long in the team to notch up assists, most of them come from corners anyway.

he's been in my team since gw 2
his form's really been a bit topsy turvy. notches up points whenever the center backs feel like scoring from a set piece.

this is really confusing - article above states:

"The Premier League yesterday confirmed a new date for the previously postponed Tottenham-Everton game. The match will now take place on Wednesday 11th January, or gameweek 20 to Fantasy managers, meaning Spurs have (WBA, EVE) while the Toffees have (BOL, tot). Gameweek 20 is, of course, the first week we are able to use our January wildcard- how very thoughtful of them… Our season ticker has now been updated to reflect the change in fixture schedule."

So can we use Jan WC for gameweek 20 or not?

Nope - the 2nd Jan deadline is for GW 20 - you can use your wildcard after that eg on 3rd Jan, but your team for GW 20 will still be the same.

You can use your wildcard to take everton/spurs players out if necessary afterwards though.

We've edited the article now. It appears that the WC will only be available after GW20's deadline has passed. We're waiting on clarification though and will add that back to the article once we have it.

It's a little confusing - a simple - the January WC can be played from GW21 (2 Jan 11.30 onwards) up to GW23's deadline (4 Feb 11:30) would perhaps have been a bit clearer.

How is it not crystal clear?

The GW 20 fixtures include Spurs V Everton. The deadline for transfers for that GW is 11:30am on Jan 2nd.

The wildcard can be used from 11:30am on Jan 2nd - ie not before the deadline.

      Drenthe probably gets you: 1, 12, 5, 2, 3, 10, 0, 9

Just a thought on the Vorm/Lindegaard rotation - If Vorm gets injured or a red card, you'll find yourself more than likely keeperless. Swansea's sub keeper would be an interesting 2nd goalie. That's Tremmel methinks. But Krul makes alot more sense to rotate. Bit boring, but sensible.

Terrible idea. You want two keepers in your team that will be playing every week and will have good fixtures and who you'll be able to swap in and out when the other has a bad fixture. Eg. Krul and Vorm have been great at rotating this year since NEW have been playing home while SWA have been away and vice versa.
Krul isn't a good choice for the upcoming games though.
An example of a bad choice of keepers for the next 3 weeks is SUN and STO since they both have good games in weeks 1,2,4 and harder games in 3 weeks time.
Howard rotates best with Vorm in the next 6 weeks.

Cheers E, twasn't something I'd seriously consider, more a comment on what was said in a previous article about Vorm /Lindegaard. Looking at Vorm/Howard, good rotation for next 9 gameweeks, WOL VILLA STO FUL NOR SWAN QPR TOT BOL, but the 5.4 for Howard is a bit expensive. Obviously Swans home to TOT gw19 is that bit trickier than the rest.

    Hi guys,

I have a few issues relating to my team. I am doing alright but in the last couple of weeks my nearest rival seems to be catching me. What are the main issues with my team:

    Vorm Given
    Enrique Simpson Evans Brown Kompany
    VDV Ramsey Silva Walters Dyer
    Rooney Sturridge RVP

I have 1.3 in the bank, only 1 transfer (willing to take hits) and no wc!

    My issues seem to be:

1.Given-Rotates terribly with Vorm, plus villa have not been great with cs’s
    2.Simpson-Poor run of fixtures
3.Evans-No longer a starter plus I hate him
    4.Ramsey-Firing blanks
    5.Rooney-Firing Blanks and playing deep
6.Sturridge-FF points are starting to dry up.

Oh my god….I really didn’t realise I had that many issues!!!!!

Wouldnt doubt Rooney tbh, due to the fact that he will be up front again in the next GW, due to the fitness of midfielders coming back. After a week of being up front again he will be back in form scoring goals.
Ramsey is playing pretty high up the pitch, he has just had a quiet week or 2 but expect him to be back on the Assist bandwagon and probably a goal or 2 soon.
Sturridge is still nailed on at a good playing club like chelsea, dont see his points drying up too much, but then there is better potential out there for points.

I wouldnt worry to much, I would defo play Vorm nearly every match you can, even for the up coming game against ManU cause he will score better just because of save points in my opinion! So no need to change that just as yet.
I would look into changing Evans for sure, and keep Simpson on the bench for a while until his games get better again. Maybe Evans too someone like maybe Vermaelen for a punt or even McAuley/Olsson.

wait till int are over, Roonpig might move back up front if united's midfield are healed... if they are not I would suggest he is your priority as biigest investment. Man utds attack ain't been good as they have tried to sure up a terrible defence, which is currently paying fantasy dividends at the back and not the front for them. Still would be tempted to have a Man Utd attacker given fixture... ideally Rooney if he is up front, if not Hernandez.

Given has had a shocker- think about Sunderland's 4.4 million goalkeeper, forget his name but cheap and good fixtures.
Simpson. Season keeper potentially, don't shift- wasted transfer. well cheap and put at the back of subs for next couple of games.
Evans. Good sub, would keep if I had him. Horrible player in real life but good value in FP. If you must, swap out for Wes Brown. Again sunderland = cheap and cherpy.
Ramsey. Mopst def stick with, fixture and positions will see him do well enough for hius value.
Sturridge- tempted to ship him out, depewndent on cash flow either Klasnic (cheap as chips), Ade/hernandes/bendtner/welbeck (dubious)/ or Ba if you hold off and wait for Newcastles fixtures to pick up.

Just to clarify we have removed any reference to wildcards in the above post. At present, we are seeking from FPL on the matter. While the Spurs-Everton game takes place on the 11 January, the closing date for transfers for GW 20 is the 2 January, though the official site states:

"the January Wildcard can only be used between Gameweeks 20 and 23 (2 Jan 11:30 to 4 Feb 11:30)."

    Apologies for any confusion.

For me it makes sense anyway as you can stock up till the DGW on Everton and Tottenham players AND THEN wildcard. And I´m guessing some other fixtures will be rescheduled for that GW too due to snow.

          3. Rooney has achieved far more than Suarez has to date...

In conclusion you may want to hold off before passing such judgement until Suarez has actually made a big enough impact. Being the star man against largely weaker opposition does not suddenly propel him to the heights of Rooney!

Suarez hasn't even proved himself in a half-decent league yet! Scoring goals in Holland does not prove you are a goalscorer. You might be (van Persie, van Nistelrooy, Bergkamp eventually), you might not (Kezman, Alves, Kuyt).

Really appreciate some help kind of stuck on where to go from here. I have quite alot of dead wood in my team DeLaet, Petrov, Ferguson and possibly Given isnt looking great for the foreseeable future. The rest Im really happy with. Im tempted to wildcard but Im put off but the lack of big changes and kind of feel that I should use just use my free transfers to get these players sorted.

    Vorn GIVEN
    Enrique Simpson Kompany Wilkinson DELAET
Ramsey Silva PETROV Van Der Vaart FERGUSON
    Adebayor Van Persie Rooney

Will probably take a 4 point hit this week to tidy up was thinking
    A) DeLaet>Brown Petrov>Eagles
    B) Given>Westwood Petrov>Drenthe (then sort DeLaet out next week)
    C) Wildcard

Anyone else not convinced with Jagielka (FPL wise).

He's had 1 good score, when he found the back of the net vs Wolves, but he's unlikely to score more than 1, maybe 2 more goals this season; Everton keep conceding and since he scored 11 he's had: 0,1,1, 2, 2, 1.

After chatting to some WBA fans earlier, they're convinced that McAuley will keep his centre back pairing with Olsson with Dawson as first back up and Tamas behind him in the pecking order. So I'm now re-considering bringing him in, instead.

Bentner or Saha or go cheap and upgrade some defence.

Drop De Laet for Naylor and double up Swans, as you have with NEW. I'd still go Studge, myself.

wait until internationals are over, Aguero injured atm, if you get another one wasted transfer- especially with De Leat, Woodgate, Simpson (fixture/form/fixture). If its a wildcard reconsider defence... if not keep welbeck and switch de leat-> wees brooooown.

I agree with Kaz, although only partially on Bendy. I'd still Studge it myself.

Drenthe or Walters to battle over two of the midfield spots with O'Hara and Sessegnon (until January)?

Has anyone ever received two yellow cards(and a red) in the same game move i.e. ref allows play to go on(meaning to go back and book the fouler) who then goes on to foul another player and get booked for that as well?

A bit like getting done for speeding twice on the same journey!

    cheers

Maybe no-one knows. I've trawled Google and can't immediately find anything.

I was just thinking of the Lampard prospect of deliberately getting booked. I think the ref should then book him again for something innocuos-at best it's gamesmanship at worst cheating.

Now I'm sure Frank won't do it....

A few years ago the police set a speed trap up for a week after a campaign from local villagers and caught one guy 78 times. How would it feel if day after day those beige envelopes kept plopping through your letter box???

I don't think the referees are allowed to play advantage when someone is about to be sent off. May be wrong though.

        See the last paragraph

Law 5 Powers & Duties of the Referee.

Only a player or substitute or substituted player may be shown the red or yellow card.

The referee has the authority to take disciplinary sanctions, as from the moment he enters the field of play until he leaves the field of play after the final whistle.

To remind you that a Referee MUST:

provide the appropriate authorities with a disciplinary report.
act on the advice of Assistant Referees regarding incidents which he has not seen. The Referee can only change his mind on the advice of an Assistant Referee, provided that the game has not been restarted. (You cannot act on the sending-off advice of a Club Assistant Referee linesman).
take disciplinary action against players guilty of a sending-off offence. The Referee is not obliged to take this action immediately, and can allow advantage to the offended team, but the Referee must take action when the ball next goes out of play. (Note - it is nearly always best for the Referee to stop play immediately to deal with, and to administer a sending-off offence.)

I posted a reply further up, which was there for 10 mins, now has disappeared. And then I posted a long comment which was there for 10 mins then went.

    Is this normal?

My comment profile still recognises me posting and replying to posts.

    Any ideas?

Update your link by the way. That way people can offer advice even if you don't ask for it!
