A run of three home fixtures in the next four gameweeks brings Jamie O’Hara into our updated Watchlist rankings this week. Back from a one-match suspension, the former Tottenham man will be key to Mick McCarthy’s side as they look to climb the table after a disappointing first few months of the season.

With Wolves sitting fourth-bottom, just two points above the relegation zone, this upcoming run of games will be a critical part of their season and O’Hara’s recent form certainly offers reasons to be optimistic. Site Members will be all too familiar with his potential- O’Hara’s threat and creativity has seen him stationed in the top ten of our ICT Index virtually all season, with a recent change of system from Big Mick finally allowing him to flourish as a Fantasy asset.

A move to 4-5-1 has afforded O’Hara the chance to play further forward, tucked in just behind Kevin Doyle, and while his away form has been far from flattering, he has scored in his last three Molineux games in all competitions. League goals against Swansea and Wigan, in addition to netting against Man City in the Carling Cup defeat, are clear examples of a resurgent eye for goal.

While a trip to Old Trafford could blunt his returns, a look at his other fixtures in the aforementioned run (SUN, mun, STO, NOR) shows just why he’s sprung to our attention. Sunderland, Stoke and Norwich have been abysmal on their travels, with a single away win each so far this season and if Wolves can replicate the home form that seen them dismiss Man City, Man United and Chelsea at Molineux last term, O’Hara will surely feature.

Priced at just 5.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and with an ownership of just 1.8%, he could prove a handy, mid-priced differential over the next few matches ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Yep, agree with Fratboy, it's a very strong team...would maybe consider shipping Drenthe for someone (maybe O'Hara??), but the rest of your team is very strong with nice fixtures coming up for most of them...

Interesting that teams often perform very well just after the boss is sacked. That said, I'd still back Saylor over Brown, better att potential. Neither much likely to get CS.

Ok, so heads a bit wreaked on this one, any advice appreciated.
I've one free transfer and am trying to decide whether I should drop Ramsey for O'Hara or Ben Arfa....if I go with O'Hara I'll get him in this week for Sunderland at home, if it's to be Ben Arfa I'm thinking to hold off until after they play Chelsea this weekend...

What's the concensus, O'Hara, Ben Arfa or hold onto the Ram for Aresnal's trip to Wigan....(already have RVP for some Gunner coverage).

I'm tempted to follow Packie, I've been saying I'll give Ramsey one more week for weeks now and he's just coming up with 2's all over the place...can see O'Hara bagging at least one this weekend. But then the little voice in my head goes "you know as soon as you drop the Ram he'll grab a goal and an assist plus a cleanie and a couple of baps this weekend against Wigan..."

I've done a bit of analysis of the last 13 gameweek's as I am intrigued by the potential focus on defenders rather than midfielders(the likes of Baines and Vermaelen on some guys watchlists).

This is to be taken with a slight pinch of salt as consistency is the key. We all yearn for those double figure scores and I guess there is only a few players likely to get them. The stats I have analysed have thrown up a few interesting results(although again to be taken with a pinch of salt as some players started badly and are now coming in to form and others have only recently joined or left the fray). I have summarised it with the detail further down

Keepers-only 3 scored double figure gameweek scores with Vorm and Begovic doing it twice.

Defenders- 22 with double figure gameweeks of which Terry managed it 3 times, then there were 5 with 2 and 16 with 1.

Midfielders- 43 with double figure gameweeks with 3 players managing it 4 times(Lamps,Bale and VDV), 2 players with 3(Silva,Nani), 12 players with 2 and 26 with 1.

Forwards- 24 with double figure gameweeks with RVP managing it 6 times, Aguero 4 times, 3 players on 3(Dzeko,Ade,Agbon), 7 players with 2 and 12 players with 1.

The full analysis as follows:(the order they are in is based on their total points and helps with ranking and taking a 'view'. It probably shows why some bandwagons started then stopped-hope this is of some interest if not of any use!!)

But you'll also play more midfielders than defenders and forwards in mot cases, so in one way we've already compensated for these results beforehand

I did read it really πŸ˜‰ Good stuff, but I bet there's a lot of 9s scored amongst the forwards - a mid with a goal and 3 bonus (which often comes with a goal) gets 10 points, a forwards with a goal and 3 bonus only gets 9.

To get into double figures a forward needs to do more than score a goal, which a mid doesn't.

Great work TommyJ. Ignore the haters, you are trying to base your opinions on fact and statistical analysis which I admire as should most who use this site.

      Notable impressions:
      - RVP is a machine.
      - Aguero is the 2nd most consistent striker in terms of double digit scores.
      - Rooney seems to have only had 2 exceptionally good games all season.
      - Stop the epidemic of selling the big hitters in midfield. They get the most consistent high scores.
      - Bale is outstanding value in midfield.
      - Don't start pumping money in defence. Big scores are far less frequent there.

      Thanks mate.

That's a better way of putting it in terms of where to invest(as 6 defenders, 17 mids and 12 forwards managed more than 2) i.e.. that should probably equate to the ratio of total investment between the three positions.

Everything hold an element of risk, Aguero etc... It's the risk/reward balance that's important, which makes you right to play Walters (as I am). Personally, STO/SUN both awful away form, but I'd err to ShawX over Brown, but that's just me. It's a solid team you have.

O'Hara is a great value choice for your midfield over the next few weeks, i think Theo Walcott should also be on your watchlist if you've got a little more in your budget

Hi all can u pls offer me some advice?

    Current team:

    Vorm (Westwood)

    Richards, jones, gabbidon (Simpson, brown)

    Vdv, silva, dyer, drenthe (moses)

    RVP, Rooney, adebayor

I have 1 free transfer and 0.4m in bank.

I was thinking Ba and Bale for Rooney and Moses?
Or even baines and Ba for gabbidon and Rooney???

    Thoughts please?

Manatee, I would wait for a pair of FTs next GW. Not sure it'll be worth the 4 points either way. But both are good moves in principle, perhaps Baines/Ba slightly better based on DVD/Ade combo already.

Warning about O'Hara - Mick threatening to return to 4-4-2:

"But with McCarthy having identified Sunday’s clash as one of ‘12 must-win’ fixtures, they are expected to be reunited in a 4-4-2 formation."

    http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2011/12/01/double-boost-for-wolves-as-key-duo-fit/

Which obviously means O'Hara NOT playing in the hole behind the striker.

Probably return to 4-4-2 over 4-4-1-1, and unlikely to see massive personnel changes but they might actually win for a change. Surprising how a teams' form can often pick up post mgr sacking.

        Ha, I'll reply.

Get rid of Rangel - With that wedge available I think I'd just put Baines straight in for him.

If you really want Silva this week, Baines will wait as they are away to Arsenal next week and you're benching Rangel this week anyway. Ramires --> Silva is a pretty solid transfer in my opinion.

          2. Ramires to Silva
          3. Ramsey to Gower
with .5 m still in the bank

Would have to use my WC thugh. I have already made 2 transfers this week.

Or I can Do Ramires to Silva but a 4 point hit

Welcome to the site Wakka πŸ™‚ .
I would move Rangel on as you know he's not going to play for a while, and with possible Christmas rotations a playing bench will be important. With 5.1 in the bank you can get who you want. But think about your next two or three TFs and how much £ you will need there. I look mainly for good runs of fixtures and the best I can afford within that. (Others don't). Which Taylor do you have?

Cheers, good advice. I have Niel Taylor. I agree Silva does not seem quite right just now. Adam somehow does not feel right especially with Lucas out. But Ramsey, Ramires, Moses & VDV (who may not start) leavey my midfield uninspirting to say the least! I have totenham cover for good fixtures but not much Man City firepower!
I think i might try and do along the lines that HECO87 suggests but do it over the next couple of weeks, as he said i would be benching Rangel anyway. Silva not great fixtures, and Gower not worth a hit as he would be benched anyway.
Thanks guys. I now have a plan πŸ™‚ All the best, Wakka Wakka
