Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Javier Hernandez is expected to be sidelined for the next four weeks with an ankle injury.

The Mexican was subbed off early in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa this evening and was stretchered from the proceedings after a lengthy delay. His goals have been crucial to the champions of late, with Hernandez scoring 3 of United’s 4 goals prior to the Villa match.

Post-match, the United boss rued the loss of his in-form striker and mulled over options for what will be a busy Christmas period:

I think it is torn ligaments in the ankle and he’ll be out for four weeks. We are having a bad time with injuries at the moment but that is why we have a strong squad. Danny Welbeck is fit again and fortunately he got 15 minutes tonight which is good. He has not had a lot of football recently which is something I have to consider. But Nani did alright through the middle and Valencia did very well for us when he came on, he was excellent. So I have some options up front. We may have Berbatov fit for Wednesday also, but we are getting our fair share of injuries at the moment.

The mention of Nani as a possibility in the central role is particularly intriguing. With Wayne Rooney’s run of goalless games now stretching to eight league fixtures on the back of tonight’s game, United are relying on their defence to ensure victories right now.

They have now ground out four 1-0 wins in the last five games since the return of Nemanja Vidic and have scored more than one goal just once in their last nine games but with a run of fixtures that includes (WOL, qpr, ful, WIG, BLA) look ripe for investment.

Welbeck, at 6.6, would be the most obvious bargain but with Fergie urging caution over his game time, the Fantasy options are low on the ground right now up front, with defence perhaps looking the most viable source of points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

So I've been thinking: Is Silva really worth 10.5m?

Didn't have him at the start of the season cos 9.5 seemed steep for a (fantasy) "luxury" player aka assister of the assist, and couldn't justify the extra 1.5m more than Yaya.

Yaya is obviously playing deeper this season, but he's still getting in the box regularly and is now scoring points very consistently(he's in better form than Silva at the moment), should get 3 bps as well). He's also dropped to 7.5.

Silva is the top scoring midfielder and for most that alone justifies his price-tag, but i just feel, like Rooney, his purple patch is over and he'll revert back to his last season returns. 10.5 is a lot for a player i'd personally never captain.

The million dollar question is: Is Silva really worth 3m more than Yaya?

Well I got him at 9.5 and as you said, he is the top scoring midfielder, so there is not any other midfielder i'd want over him, period.

An interesting question, and I guess the next two weeks will determine the answer in a big way.

      But a simple one: Silva 85 points for 10.5 = 8.1 points per pound, Toure 7.5 for 59 points = 7.9 ppp.

We'll find out how much weight we can place on Silva's consistency over the next 2 GW's but I think the additional consistency is another feather in Silva's cap.

Have had Silva since the start so he's a keeper for me. It's the same question as VDV v Bale is many ways. I went with Bale there at a cheaper price than he is now because the extra 2 for VDV did now seem worth it in spite of his potentially big returns.

If there were more quality options in the 8 range we would all be going for them. The fact that people are going for highly priced defenders says it all

Had Silva from near start and VdV from when he dropped to 9.8

Toure + Bale as an alternative would be enticing if I knew what I'd do with the extras (also I don't want to lose Silva...)

I just feel getting Bale now would be chasing points, and he did something similar last year and went flat - so here's hoping...

Not really though. VdV is a genuine big-hitter, Silva isn't.

Look at it this way(and this is for people who are bringing him in now and paying the full 10.5 for him): Silva + 0m or Yaya(not necessarily) + 3M!

That extra 3m could be the difference between Larsson and Nani/Mata/Young. Brown and Baines, etc.

Which combo would score you more points:Silva and Brown or Yaya and Baines?

I'm thinking the latter, though i'm probably wrong! 😀

Silva had more points than VDV. End of story. How we all spend our money is a judgement call though and a matter of timing when it comes to getting players and when to get rid.

How is VDV a big-hitter but Silva isn't?
Silva has scored more points than any other midfielder, and only Aguero and RVP have score more overall 🙄
"That extra 3m could be the difference between Larsson and Nani/Mata/Young. Brown and Baines, etc." I am pretty sure almost everybody would rather Silva to Nani/Mata/Young, and rightly so.
Also, to answer your question as to who would score more..
            Silva (85) + Brown (37) = 122
            Baines (47) + Yaya (59) = 106

And it doesn't have to be Brown either considering Baines + Yaya at the start of the season would have given you 6.5 to spend on Silva's partner..
Therefore Jones (63) Richards (61) R.Taylor (61) and Kompany (57) would have given you 35+ points.

You're hinging your argument(s) on overall points, which is very naive. You have to look at form/fixtures.

Yaya form - 6(more by the time bps come in)
              Silva form - 4.8

              Baines form - 5
Brown form - 1.8 (this will also probably swing more in Baines' favor ater tofay's games)

Naive? That's a little arrogant to say the least. If Yaya is the man you want then get him. It could be a great buy. Likewise with anybody else

And again, why Brown of all 4.5 defenders? because he hasn't scored that well 🙄 ... Brown + Silva was 14.0 at the start of the season, Baines + Yaya will have given you less points plus burnt a 2.0 million dollar hole in your budget.
Drop/don't get Silva at your own risk, I don't care, I'm just providing the facts.

Hey, i used Brown simply as an example, you are the one who "literalized" it by bringing up his points tally.

I don't follow your "start of the season" talk, i made it very clear i'm talking about circumstances at present.

Just so you know, i don't have Silva. This is all just a ploy to get people to bin him cos he's caused me too much pain! 😀

Only 3 times this season has Silva only scored less than 5 points, and 2 of those occasions were when he came on for 20 minute cameos. That's the sort of consistencey I'm happy to pay for.

          A less sarcastic answer:

My belief is you pick the best you can regardless of 'differentials', let others do stupid things to chase points. As long as you have the best team you can afford you'll consistently move up the ratings.

My 'differentials' have been Sturridge, Adebayor, and Baines - and I've maintained a solid core with Silva/VdV/RvP. (Adebayor less of a differential now, but I got in as soon as he joined the game).

The point of all this is to show that its the other players that make the difference - the guys without the big names may have one or two 'told you so' weeks, but over the season they'll fall back.

Thing with the VDV Bale debate that people are missing is

Yes last season Bale did go flat , however he is young and improving , is a better player than last season , playing in a better team , so returns likely to be higher than last year.

VDV on the other hand is a year older , his hammy at least as bad probably worse than last season , the fact tottenham have a now much better squad means that Rednapp is not forced to play hm each week , so he can and will have plnt of rest.

Rednap will of also noticed how Tottenham look a better side without him , Defore gives much more pace and combines better with Adebyour

Think this may have been a reply fail, but in reply to it, I think if VDV started ahead of Defoe they would have won by more, the amount of chances he blundered was ridiculous, VDV isn't like that.

Classic H2H dilemma: Considering it's a must win game for me, which one would win?

Common players: Vorm; Enrique; Silva, VDV; Studge, RVP.

Me: Brown, Simpson; Sinclair, Bale, Helguson
My Rival: Naylor/Kompany, Jones; Brunt, Mata, Adebayor

I'm guessing my rival would do Mata/VDV > Bale with his FT this GW. I have 5mil in my bank.

Considering this, do you think I should just get Jones in? Or should I try to differentiate and get the Verminator/Suarez in?

Normally I'd suggest getting in a United player - but I can't work out which one will do well this week.

I wouldn't do Jones as he's most likely to only get you 6 points and you're probably in need of bigger potential.

Sessegnon/Larsson or Bendtner for (whoever your 5th mid is)/Helguson (or Sturridge) to take advantage of Sunderlands good fixture. Possibly a punt on Brunt/Long.

My 5th mid is Moses 😛 The thing is I'm never confident about resting my forwards. Hmm, Bendy really? I don't really rate WBA to do too well. And SUN could struggle too.

I think I fancy a punt on one of the Top 6 teams, they seem to be putting their foot down on the weaker teams in a strong way.

          Which top 6 team though?

Arsenal are home to an improving Everton (I wouldn't bank on a massive victory here - 2-1 or so)
Liverpool and United have the best fixture home to QPR and Wolves, but they don't have that one player you can hang your hat on (no Aguero/Silva/Mata/RvP type)
Then City and Chelsea are facing each other and Spurs are away at Stoke and you already have Bale and VdV.

    Enrique, Brown, Vermaelen

    RVP(C), Sturridge, Adebayor (VC)
    Subs: Ruddy, Drenthe, Richards, S.Taylor

I have 1.1M in the bank and I'm thinking of doing S.Taylor to one of: Monk, Jagielka, BAE, Santos (I am 0.3M short to be able to get Jones). What do you think? Advice greatly appreciated, thanks!

Some morning opinions lads. I have Hernandez, and will Bales form the following transfers looks like a good idea:

    VDV-->Bale
    Hernandez-->Aguero

At the moment i have 0.2m spare, so can't afford price changes to that effect. Anyone feel it would be good to do this early due to the inevitable shifts (no doubt) in Bale, VDV and Hernandez's prices. Thoughts much appreciated. The above is a 4pt hit btw.

Baines and Sessegnon to N.Taylor and Nani..
    2 frees remember..
Will then still have a very good defense with a brilliant midpark and frontline too.. can get jagielka closer to gw20 deadline day instead of baines then

Im a good 60 points from the top, been chasing the lead for a while, Ive taken 5 4PH this season, and theyve sort of worked out.

Just popped out VDV for Bale.

Ive kept Rooney since GW1, and Im really annoyed with his returns, and as much as I hate doing it, I wanna get him out for a better scoring player, question:

Does Rooney > Ba for a 4 PH seem good for the next few weeks? Itll give me the money to get Mata the week after. Thanks lads.

I am pretty sure he has the highest points per start..
8.5 (assuming he gets 3 baps) is immense.
Just did a quick look at the 'big guns' and he is beating RVP/Silva etc..

Haha no, I highly doubt it, but it is still quite an amazing stat..for a defender..

Do you think he'll out-do RVP for the 3 Baps?

I have both so I don't mind too much. RVP(c) so would probably rather he gets the 3...

Im tempted by Ba (c) for the next two weeks. Everyone will instinctively Captain RVP but i think Ba will rip it up.

Trying to be a bit too clever can absolutely kill you in this game... But if you think ba will outscore RVP definitely go for it.

Starting to warm to Mata. He is very similar to Silva in the way he always assists, yet people label Silva as a season keeper and Mata not worth it?

Slowly creeping my way up the table then - top 37k now. Main goal is to beat my season PB of 17,377. Decent chance right?

Is it worth taking 8 point hit for Ba?

Begovic > Westwood (already got Vorm) Need to remove Begovic anyways
    Helguson > Ba
    Sinclair > Faurlin/Gower/Moses

The new team will look like:

    Vorm (Westwood)
P Jones, Enrique, Brown, Simpson (Taylor S)
    Bale, VDV, Silva (Faulin, Dyer)
    Ade, RVP, Ba

    Comments?

Not worth it mate. Keep Sinclair for the next few, then ship him. I'd ship one of the Spurs lot...3 of them is overkill...rather go with Mata or Nani and spread the points.

You mean an average of 23 points for a certain 3 players is overkill? ha.

haha.. thats a lot of response. I will go with you all.. No Ba for the moment..

Agree, 3 newcastle might be over kill right now.. With coloccini and Staylor out and Rtaylor running like a headless chicken all over the ground, their def looks out of shape.
