Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. Phil Jones receives good news on his jaw injury, Davide Santon’s injury paves the way for Ryan Taylor’s return, while Steven Gerrard may be set for a surprise return against Blackburn this weekend…

Sir Alex Ferguson had some good and bad news for Man United fans in his Friday morning press conference. Ferguson confirmed that Ashley Young is due to miss several weeks with a knee injury sustained against Fulham but was pleased to reveal the injury to Phil Jones is not as bad as first expected. It was feared the former Blackburn man would be sidelined after a stray elbow from Clint Dempsey in the 5-0 win over the Cottagers had left him concussed, amid fears of a break, but Fergie revealed:

We have good news on Phil Jones: he should be okay for Monday. He has some swelling in his jaw but there’s no break, no fracture, which is good news.

Steven Gerrard could return from his lengthy spell on the sidelines against Blackburn on Boxing Day. Gerrard has been out for two months with an ankle injury but has now returned to full training and Kenny Dalglish has refused to rule out the idea that his skipper may feature against Steve Kean’s side. The Liverpool boss admitted:

Everything he’s done, he’s done very well. He’s been training, but whether that means he’s ready or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

Marcos Alonso faces up to six weeks on the sidelines with a foot problem. The left-back sustained the injury in Bolton’s midweek match at Blackburn and although there was no break, he will still need surgery to replace the pin that was put in his foot following a similar problem earlier in the year.

Davide Santon is set to miss out on Newcastle’s trip to Bolton with a knee injury. The Italian was subbed off at half-time in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom with pains in the joint but Alan Pardew has revealed he is expected to be available for the game against Liverpool on the 30th December. Pardew also confirmed Ryan Taylor will come straight back into the first XI as a result of Santon’s absence.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Spurs have selection issues in defence ahead of the trip to Norwich. Both Ledley King and Younes Kaboul have picked up hamstring problems and with Rafael Van der Vaart also subbed off last night after suffering yet another tweak, Tottenham could be forced to make a few changes for the Carrow Road encounter.

Kieran Gibbs is ruled out for another month after undergoing groin surgery. With Andre Santos unlikely to be back until March, Arsene Wenger could continue with Thomas Vermaelen at left-back, with plenty of cover in the central defensive area. The Gunners boss also revealed Johan Djourou has “a little chance“ of featuring in the game against Wolves on 27th December.

Wenger went on to admit he could be forced into a reassessing his left-back options, though any possible deal would likely be a loan:

It can only be a short-term solution for us because we have bought Santos, we have Gibbs, we have Vermaelen who can play there, so we do not need a long-term solution.

Owen Coyle has revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Bolton over the potential transfer of Gary Cahill in the upcoming January window. With Alex now marginalized after his transfer request was accepted, the Blues are lacking in central defensive options and Cahill, priced at 5.2, could be a potential FPL bargain if the move transpires and he establishes himself as a fixture in Andre Villas-Boas’ starting XI.

    Vorm (Al-Habsi)
    Jones Richards Raylor (Ward, Brown)
    Silva Bale Nani(v) Drenthe (Gower)
    Rvp(c) Yakubu Adebayor

    0.1 in bank, 1FT

    Should I do:
    A) Ward ➡ Evans
    B) Ward ➡ Caulker
    C) Ward ➡ Shotton

repost - Even though Ba could score more than Sturridge on Monday, Sturridge will have risen by 0.2m by then and this will affect the value of my team and future players that i can bring in.

Do you think it is worth gambling that Ba will score more than Sturridge on Monday and losing 0.2m or bringing in Sturridge now instead of on Monday?

I personally find when I make decisions based on pricing that I make the wrong ones. Plus Fulham will be looking to tighten up after United stuffed them. With that said, if it's not for a hit then as a long term move it makes sense.

Ba will rise once more as well by Monday. Transferring out a player in form for another player in form will invariably bite you on the bazoobies. If you don't have specific trades in mind that you won't be able to make on account of not bringing in Sturridge now, then don't do it.

David Silva is the rare fantasy beast of being consistently good but rarely amazing (not often doing "multiple things" in a game).

I'll be honest, I find it bloody annoying.

The biggest problem with entertaining selling him for a short term (until WC reassesment) is that Man City are on television seven gameweeks in a row and watching him could be as painful as it is mesmerising.

He's actually one of those players I rarely think about, despite his heavy price tag and despite my reluctance to captain him. Sometimes you just have to give up the rush of a huge points fix for good old (boring) comfort-blanket consistency.

I'm also in the VDV boat, would you replace him with Bale or Walcott?

Drenthe, Walters, Ramsey (yeah, I said it..), Etherington, Modric.... they all have good fixtures and/or a double coming up.

Not sure, but he's suppose to be back for Monday... and you would only really want him for two games, then maybe swap for Drenthe on the double!

Would you do Ba -> Sturridge, for a free transfer? Sturridge will rise 0.2m before the next gameweek and Ba won't rise at all for me because he needs to raise 0.2m again before he goes up 0.1m for me.

Even if Ba scores a couple more points is it worth it for getting the 0.2m and this will allow me to do better transfers in the future.

Do you all think Ba will score more than Sturridge.

How many do you think Ba will score and how many Sturridge?

I was thinking of doing B.Johnson -> Larsson, next gameweek, but if Sturridge rises 0.2m when i don't have him i can't do this.

i'm looking at making same transfer but will wait till next gameweek, after which ba's fixtures toughen up and then he's off to african cup. just need to make sure i've enough cash in bank to cover sturridge's rise. dont get hung up on the money unless you've specific transfer in mind. invariably leads to bad decisions, well it makes me make bad decisions anyway

Who's a better start this week

    Morison home vs. Spurs or
    Brown home vs. Everton?

leaning towards Morison, who always seems involved.

    thanks

morison as he is an attacking player and most likely to bring in the pts

What are people's thought on Adebayor vs Sturridge?

    I want to do:

    Ade > Sturridge
    Brunt > Bale

It is the only way I can get Bale in and I personally feel Sturridge is a better player, but Adebayor has excellent supply.

    I could also do

    Vermaelen > Evans
    Brunt > Bale

But it seems mental to drop Verminator with their fixtures?

    Both are free transfers.

Some thoughts would be much appreciated. Also, MERRY XMAS!

I feel that it's really 50/50 with Ade/Sturridge. Ade has more chances to score just due to his position, Sturridge is more clinical. Ade takes some pens, Sturridge is cheaper. Both players are on top clubs that will score goals... I like them both!

I did it but didn't have Smalling.

Couldn't resist a Man U starter (short term) for 4.5m. Also the last game I watched he looked likely to score.
