Arsene Wenger has brought us the confirmation we wanted on Robin Van Persie’s chances of facing QPR today – unfortunately, Arsenal have chosen to publish the statement several hours too late for Fantasy managers and the Fantasy Premier League deadline.

The good news, for most , is that Van Persie will face QPR, with Wenger set to assess his skipper again before selecting him for Monday’s visit to Fulham.

“He will play tomorrow, then we will assess the situation with him on Sunday and Monday morning and make a decision…I don’t rule it out but he’s one of the players who has played a lot and you see again, against Wolves on Tuesday, he’s the guy who gives absolutely everything in every game at the moment…He knows, ‘I have to score’, so he’s always on the fringe of pushing himself. Let’s hope he can get through the next two games.”

From those comments, it appears that Van Persie will not only start against QPR today, he will also stand a good chance of making the trip to Craven Cottage, particularly if Wenger can afford him a rest in the latter stages of today’s game.

Van Persie did of course top our Captain Poll and also find a place in our Scout Picks – a decision that appears to have paid off following this confirmation. There will however, be plenty of Van Persie owners who will have put their faith in either Nani or Wayne Rooney for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy, concerned that the Arsenal skipper would not start today’s game. They now face an anxious day, with United kicking-off at 12.45 against Blackburn, and Van Persie to follow at 3pm.

That minority will be open for minimal damage from the Dutchman – with Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record in sight, that might just be a forlorn hope.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which do you think is the best option for the DGW?

    B) BAE & Osman
    C) BAE & Donovan (gambol!)

That is what I assumed only thing is my main rival has the two of them and for the last few weeks I have been giving him loads of grief for copying my team! If I am top after this GW then I think that is the best option for sure.

The one thing that RVP has over Nani now - if Arsenal get two or three up, it's likely that RVP will stay on the pitch chasing the record. If United get two or three up, Nani would seem likely to be subbed. United could run riot but will Nani be there to enjoy it all. I guess we'll see. Fascinating day ahead.

BAE could potentially get 12 points where as VDV could get 3 and not play the other game, on the other hand VDV could have a great GW. I'm personally taking a gamble and getting VDV with Bale and Ade already in my team

A last minute price rise foiled my hopes of getting in Ade and Drenthe (for Walters and Ba) 🙁 Any suggestions for getting Ade in without bending over too far backwards?

    Friedel (Vorm)
    Vermaelen | Jones | Jakielka
    Silva | Nani | Bale | Walters
    RVP | Ba | Morison
    (Enrique, Caulker, Ferguson)

1.5m in the bank and 2FT to play with. I was thinking perhaps Enrique > Hibbert?, Ba > Ade. I doubt its worth a hit to squeeze Ade and Drenthe in. Another possibility is Jones > Baines, Walters > Osman. Risky, but interesting differential for the DGW - everton not being popular, but with reasonable upside from recent poor performances.

Thanks for the great suggestion. I hadn't considered: Silva+Morison > Osman+Ade. I would lose 0.5m on Silva (bought at 9.5m), so would probably have to look at a non-Silva strategy for the rest of the season.

Other losses would be Verm (.1) Jones (.2) Enrique (.2) Walters (.3) Nani (.3) Ba (.5 but ditching anyway of course), RVP (.6) Morison (.1)

yes, same, if arsenal take the lead and RVP hasn't scored he'll come. The only time he'll play the whole game is if he's scored a goal or two and has a chance to break the record, in which case we're buggered anyway.

He's just come back from injury and hasn't been playing for 90 mins recently, not to say he won't play both games but it is doubtful and that's prob why people aren't choosing him

Exactly, back form injury. If you look at his history he doesn't play only if he's injured. And when he's back from injury he starts playing 60+ minutes. Unless he gets injured, he'll play both games.

officially from jan 1 till the end of february
but unlikely he will start the bolton game, knowing moyes i think he'll come off the bench in his forst game.
in addition it is important to see where he will be imployed
RW LW CF in the hole, CM coz he can play all these positions

Absolutely no chance Osman is losing minutes. Not only is he in good form but he also happens to be one of Ginge's favourites - so no chance.

Drenthe plays left wing, Donovan will play instead of Coleman.

RVP owners like myself would do well to remember that Wenger cares far less about RVP's record than him and infinitely less than us. Have to take it out of the equation and see it from his POV: I only have one striker tbh and he's really good, whenever I don't need him I need not play him. If they thrash QPR I am prepared to see him off when the game is safe, record or no record.

Game being safe and RVP running riot are very closely related.

Was thinking this, yes, but obviously you want him to score as many as possible and this could be the difference between scoring 1 or 2, or 2 or 3. Also not unthinkable Gervinho/Arteta/Walcott/Benayoun/Verm could make it safe between them.

suarez abscnce yesterday have shown how much players like bellamy downing and caroll are suffering around him.
once he receives the ball he is taking too much time before releasing the pass
liverpool yesterday looked more like a team than with suarez and scored 3 goals with the least attempts on goal per game this season

Wouldn't have considered with so many good striker options up to now but with Ba off to ACON, doubts over Roon in midfield due to injuries, Yak unreliable and Ade okay but not hot on goals, yes...

The important thing for me is he starts. I have Huth, Evans and Jones all probably out so struggling just to play 11. Come on captain Nani.

Looks like Macheda could be loan at QPR for the rest of the season, great value at 5.5 but a valued striker spot taken, worth the gamble?
