Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

Cripes, this is tough. Thank goodness there's no DGWs to factor in for a while.

Anyway, thoughts on this front line?

    Yakubu RVP Sturridge

In terms of value for money, there aren't many cheap MFers or DFers replicating their expensive equivalents, but I think it's a bit different with the forward situation, perhaps.

Bit awkward with Adebayor. He has tough fixtures around the corner and a no show at City. May keep for Wolves but go without for Wigan at home.

I have to go for Yakubu I think to replace Ba. His value is going up 0.1% tonight and there is every chance the same will happen tommorow night. Sturridge could be a good option and has three easier fixtures but costs more.

The money I will gain from bringing in Yakubu can be used to upgrade Drenthe/Gallas/Brown

But there might be a game where you don't want 2 Newcastle defenders, so a cheap defender who isn't playing for Norwich could come in handy, hence the suggestions of Swansea players.

It's a WC, get 15 players that play. You can get someone who plays/start at that price. Trippling up on Newcastle defence also leaves you with less options of teams to cover for CS.

Hi guys, anything wrong with this team?

    Lindegaard (Vorm)
    Enrique, Richards, Smalling (Simpson, Caulker)
    Nani, Silva, Bale, Walters (Moses)
    RVP, Sturridge, Aguero

Also, is it likely Aguero will rise anytime soon? Just brought him in, so is it worth putting Yakubu in for a double price rise? Anyone else in that category?

    cheers!

Yakubu could be tripple or even quadruple prise-rise before the next gw.

Don't fancy Lindegaard personally - Man U are shambolick at the back, and face a tough run of games. I certainly wouldn't double up on Man U with Smalling.

Richards is a slight rotation concern for me. Would rather the un-benchable Kompany.

Would opt for one of the rejuvenated Sunderland over Moses - McClean or Sessegnon if you can afford him.

I'd rather Adebayor over Sturridge or Aguero

Cheers. I want to keep 3 man united players in, despite it not being particularly sensible. I like those 3 as Vorm will play most games, and i think Smalling will play pretty much every game coming up.

Will probably get Kompany and McClean in for Richards and Moses - was looking at stats earlier and I think Richards only has less total points than Kompany due to injury?

        cheers

Hmm, if Nani drops and VDV rises this week, I could get:

    Krul Mignolet
    Kompany Enrique Taylor Senderos McAuley
    Silva Nani Dempsey Moses Bale
    Aguero RVP Yak

    Questions:
    1) Is Senderos definitely nailed on now? He's played many games in a row, but is Hughes / anybody else a threat?
    2) Is Mignolet playing regularly again now (even with his mask) or might Westwood come back in once over his illness?

      2) I reckon Mignolet will be back now. Given the clean sheet and the fact that Westwood was recently injured I reckon ignolet will be playing for a while (if not all the time)

I think its safer to have 1 from each. Risky doubling up, even if 1 goal goes in, the whole lot lose the clean sheet, whereas if you have a swansea and a newcastle it halves your chances of losing it (as well as gaining it though). Depends on your playing style (risky, 50/50 or safe)

Have had him all season through all his lows and highs. A couple of highs at the bench of course! He's actually getting back to his original value pretty soon. I don't really see the point getting rid of him since he's in some kind of form and so cheap

Good point. I think I might keep him all season just for the laugh. At least it makes the dull Wigan games a little entertaining. He always seems likely to do something, but rarely does :p

What do you think of my team? Worth 109.9 with 0.5 in the bank with 1 FT.

    Krul, Vorm
Enrique, R Taylor, N Taylor, Shotton, Jageilka
    Silva, Nani, Bale, VDV, Drenthe
    RVP, Adebayor, Yakubu

I'm not even sure what I'm going to do with my WC when I use it. My team is too good. Just need to get rid of Jags and Drenthe over the next 2 weeks.
The biggest problem is choosing who to play. Last week I had 12 point Yak on the bench. This week R Taylor and Krul were on the bench. Have had 10 point+ players on the bench too many times this season. (And chosen not to captain RVP at the wrong times too).

2 of those games are arsenal and city for the yak. Not appealing. It is still ages away but will decided later. Either way I am saving wonga for Ba.

Yes, see my team below. City are playing well and no sign of let up. Ok, he is a rotation risk at times but when he plays, he seems to normally do something to get more than the 2 pts. What are the alternatives? Ade (ok, doing ok, but Bale/VdV I think are more important spurs coverage), Rooney (not firing at the moment but probably will come back into it - United need him too), RVP (of course and should be in any team), Sturridge (injury doubt and not scored on the last two occasions but worth the money I think for chelsea coverage)

All in all, I would rather have Aguero in than out.

    Wildcard team:

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Jones, Evans, (Raylor, Shotton)
    Nani, Silva, Bale, Dyer (Moses)
    RvP, Aguero and Sturridge.

Comments pls! What do you think guys?

Suarez's ownership is mostly from dead team. Since price falls are determined by a percentage fall in ownership, he's never likely to lose value. Ba owners are active and shipping him out.

Pretty sure a red flag raises the number of transfers out needed though.
