Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

Remember watching that. Was cheering for Koeman's Barca. Gutted to see that douche score.

Still, it was somewhat fun back then when teams were only allowed 3 foreign players in your side.

    Current team:

    Vorm Ruddy
    Jones Shawcross Simpson Assou-Ekotto Naylor
    Nani Bale Osman Walters Surman
    Ade RVP Ba

Should I WC this week? I have my other WC available and a fair few week areas, as you can see, so should I bother waiting any longer?

Only problem is that I won't be around to tinker very much before the deadline.

Hows this for a potential WC team. Gone with the big hitters at the front.

    Vorm, Lindegaard
    Enrique, Richards, Simpson, Naylor, Senderos/Kelly
    Bale, Dempsey, Walters, Sess, Pilkington/Moses
    Rooney, Aguero, RVP

    Something a bit different.

    A) Simpson + Skrtel
(given that I can rotate Skrtel with McAuley and/or Caulker for GW 24+25, and other than that, Liverpool's fixtures aren't too shabby)

    or

    B) R Taylor + Williams
(absolutely livid that I got rid of Raylor last week, although it made sense at the time with Newcastle's recent defensive performances)

Sometimes in a season, it comes down to respectability rather than chasing with incredibly risky punts. I'd say with Torres you'll only slip further down the rankings

Downgrade BAE or Enrique and get RvP instead and minimise the damage

Surely with fixtures and no other forward he's got to do something! Sturridge is being played wide and AVB is desperate for him to perform.

Not surprising. He's only got 3 strikers and a lack of central midfielders. Lots of the money that has been spent at Man City is currently riding the bench or has been offloaded already/sent out on loan. Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy as a few examples.

      This sentence is doubly wrong

"and untimely injuries to Mario Balotelli, Owen Hargreaves and Samir Nasri."

There is no such thing as a timely injury, but if there ever was an exception to this rule, it must be for Owen Hargreaves.

Alreet lads. Where is Gerrard likely to play in the liverpool formation? Just off Carrol? I've currently got Nani in my wildcard draft but he is off form and has crap fixtures. Wouldn't normally consider Gerrard until he has a decent run under his belt, but non of the expensive midfielders are doing much and liverpool have ok fixtures. Thoughts?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Tierney_(footballer)

What a fail of a player ha. Started off as a trainee at Man Utd and signed as a profesional when he was 18, was a member of the Ireland U21 team and everything looking great, has played for several teams after but never making it and is now playing in the conference with Altrincham at the age of 29 and when i say playing i mean playing 3 games in the last 3 - 4 years haha.

    His brother plays for Norwich.

Please tell my that his Wikipedia page is wrong and that he has played more than 3 games, anybody know him or follow the conference?

Is Raylor actually a must have now? Before you dismiss this, hear me out. Oh I have laughed as people have been buying him in the thousands and his price has soared. I was comfortable in the knowledge that he was just keeping the place warm for the far superior Santon. But now Santon is in, Raylor has been moved to the right mid. If he keeps that spot, coupled with our upcoming fixtures, and renewed defensive stability, he would be a no brainer. He could well keep hold of the spot, as Obertan is even worse then him! Pardew loves them both though. Even if he doesn't play right mid, he can play both left and right back, so he will never be far away from the team. One bonus, as a Newcastle fan, is that choosing Raylor, would be like covering my bets. Normally i would be gutted if Raylor is picked (as he really is a TERRIBLE player). But if i have him in my fantasy team it will make up for it! Thoughts?

Deciding between Santon and Raylor in my WC team, but will wait how GW21 pan out before making any assumption. If spot kick duty is handed to Cabaye, then I'll go for Santon.

Williamson is a good option too, but I feel Santon run on the flank might be more rewarding in the long run (if he is nailed-on, of course). cheap DF from team that's performing, exactly what every teams need 😉

If Raylor is going to be in midfield, I am thinking of doubling up. Raylor would act as a midfielder for me. I would play him, along with 2 city defenders every game, then rotate Santon with Sessegnon. And have Caulker or Kelly to come in for their plum home fixtures.

Williamson could be a good option too. He should get more goals, while Santon should get more assists and bonus. Toss a coin really.

Actually, yes. There are so many nice deals in midfield, I considered this.

Then I realized Sturridge is awesome for his price, and will only get better. It would also mean losing Silva or Bale which does not interest me.

Yeh I could do it with Silva and Bale still in the midfield but that would leave me no Chelsea coverage and as you say Sturridge is a steal at his price so will probably just get RVP and Aguero. Might end up with Nani in midfield for a bit of ManU coverage for Bolton.
