Mark Hughes takes charge of his first game as Queens Park Rangers manager today, as his side travels up to the Sports Direct Arena to face Newcastle United. After that, Thierry Henry returns to the Premier League, where he’ll be dreaming of a similar comeback to that of the fabulous Paul Scholes. Heroics or not, the Dugout Discussion is here to follow the events as they unfold (or to further reflect on the majestic Paul Scholes’ return). The team news from early game is in…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and as you take your seat I’ll leave you with one brilliant fact I heard yesterday (and no, it’s about not Paul Scholes)… If Thierry Henry plays against Swansea today, it’ll be the 34th Premier League side he has faced. He’s scored against every one of the other 33.

Ben Arfa, My differential clearly not paying off....

Pardew : Ben Arfa scored one of best goals ive seen last week in the absence of Ba.
My feelings are the pair i started today are better option, i have nice armour on bench which i hopefully wont need.......

If his game time is not now when Ba is gone surely he will be on his was in the summer?

Hi guys, before the games kick off, looking for opinions on my transfer dilemma this week...which would you do?

    a) Westwood -> Mignolet (and bench Ruddy)
    b) Reo-Coker -> Mclean (and bench one of the defenders)
    c) Adebayor -> Sturridge (and bench one of the defenders)

    Ruddy
    JEvans, Wilko, Simpson, Caulker
    Nani, Bale, Dempsey, Ramsey
    RVP, Rooney

    Westwood, BAE, Reo-Coker, Adebayor
    Bank 0.2m

I think you could do with a keeper as Ruddy against Chelsea & Sunderland doesn't look great. Mignolet is a good shout.

McClean is looking good but you don't need a 5th midfielder as much as you need a keeper.

And Sturridge is such an obvious pick (i have him) without really justifying still being there so go with 2 up top.

Also play BAE instead of Wilko. Wilko is only a bit part player just now and City aren't as solid at the back without Kompany. With Savic the d1ddy at the back Spurs will score and BAE could have a hand in that.

Cheers for the advice. I think I'm between a) and b) because Ade has WIG the following week.

Swaying towards b) at the moment if I'm honest because GKs don't really have the ability to score huge and Mclean has been looking very good. Ruddy very unlikely to get any CS in the next 2, but could be good for save points....

If you really want Mata then see how QPR do and consider Williamson or Santon at Newcastle for 4.2. Kelly at fulham is 3.9 as well

I've had Ben Arfa most of the season now and the thing with him is, there has been every opportunity to play him - we thought he would play once he was fit, we thought he would play once they stopped winning, we thought he would play when he'd done well as a sub or in a cup game, we thought he'd play when Ba went but he never does. I'm really bitter about Pardew not playing him but I've said for a while I think it's a bad decision on his behalf, I know Pardew knows infinitely more about Ben Arfa than me but whenever he has played this season I've seen really good performances from him, there are others who I have thought were very mediocre.
