Mark Hughes takes charge of his first game as Queens Park Rangers manager today, as his side travels up to the Sports Direct Arena to face Newcastle United. After that, Thierry Henry returns to the Premier League, where he’ll be dreaming of a similar comeback to that of the fabulous Paul Scholes. Heroics or not, the Dugout Discussion is here to follow the events as they unfold (or to further reflect on the majestic Paul Scholes’ return). The team news from early game is in…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and as you take your seat I’ll leave you with one brilliant fact I heard yesterday (and no, it’s about not Paul Scholes)… If Thierry Henry plays against Swansea today, it’ll be the 34th Premier League side he has faced. He’s scored against every one of the other 33.

    nani bale dempsey sess walters

i can afford a yak drop in price, nani will drop tonight so if nani out id make it tonight

    a) nani > gerrard

I am really sweating to survive in the fpl cup
    me http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/88212/event-history/21/
I will be 42 after sub Sinclair comes on. (both players have Sinclair points)
opponent will be 41 after subs and 4 point hit.
    Opponent : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/200852/event-history/21/
He captained RVP I captained Bale.

He probably won't get RVP bonus points too many scorers for Swans. Also the winning team gets more PPI points. Opponent will probably get some bonus for R Taylor. I will probably get some bonus for Skrtel.

The two remaining differences are Moses to come on for me. However opponent has Aguero to play!
I think its concentrate on the league time for me?

Arsenal have last choice fullbacks playing right now. United have some of the best wingers in the league. Arsenal midfield is extremely sloppy with countless balls given away in dangerous places, too much space between the midfield and defence and you know how Rooney/Welbeck/Nani like to play between the lines. Also RVP not quite looking sharp.

Brief summary of thoughts from Arsenal game:

Arsenal defence: Injuries have destroyed it. Arsenal's fullbacks (Djourou and Miquel) are terrible atm and are a large reason behind the defeat. Mertesacker's decision making was poor and he's slow anyway. Koscielny was the only one doing very much. As a Gooner, I can see a spanking at Old Trafford.

Dyer: one of the paciest guys in the Prem and got behind the backline too many times to count, he's not a flash in the pan but a very sound bargain. Wish I'd kept faith with him beyond his lean period.
Graham: Swansea's Morison - in the right places and pops up with goals fairly consistently, actually a pretty skilled player with good touch and shot.
Sigurdsson: wait and see, he played quite deep today and was nowhere the same attacking threat - he may well only be a dead-ball source of points.

Walcott: Despite scoring I would still stay away from him, he still hasn't engaged his football brain, failed to cross well enough and made poor decisions on the flanks. All he had was his raw pace which got him his goal behind the Swans defence.
RVP: Scored bloody early but then strangely subdued. I saw him take a little niggle in the first half and feel it may have affected his performance. I'd keep for Old Trafford but reluctantly and call me mad but Torres(C) is extremely tempting having watched him recently.

One last thing: Rooney, Welbeck, Nani, Valencia - as 1 game punts they might blow Arsenal away next week. Again. I say 'might', you know what United have been like.

True, conceded 8 in 10 games there which is decent.

Fair play, in all the agony of losing I missed that completely. Did seem to be playing deep central, a long way behind Dyer/Sinclair/Graham. Maybe it's the Fabregas role 😉

Now for the next selection dilemma....

Krul (ful) or Vorm (sun) when I have Dempsey
Santon (ful), Senderos (NEW) or Warnock (wol) when I have Dempsey and maybe Barfa
Moses (qpr) or Ben Arfa (ful)
    ?

Have to get rid of Yak and Ade for next week.

Normally I'd look to buy Aguero or another expensive striker but as it's Spurs vs City, Arsenal vs Utd and Chelsea are away (and goal-shy) I'm leaning towards a 1 week punt on some lesser names.

Looking at the fixtures I'm thinking two of:

Fletcher, Crouch, Helguson, Bendtner, Zamora, Morison/Holt.

    Any suggestions?

Plan to wildcard after next week anyways...

    anyone watched Newcastle game?
How was Barfa today? is it wise to hold on to him or better get McClean?

Was good for a one week punt. Having said that, Cabaye's injury could mean he will start the next match
