Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

      Dunno. I guess theres a chance he could go to RB with Simpson being dropped too. Wait and see, if he gets dropped for one week take him out.

      I switched Simpson to Williamson in the wildcard to avoid any doubt.

          Meant to say, if you got Simpson at 4.0, reckon you've made a pretty poor decision doing Simpson > Williamson.

            Nah. was 4.2 for 4.2.

            Simpson never gets attacking points (occasional assist), Williamson will get more opportunities to score.

            Whilst S Taylor is out, Williamson is more nailed on than Simpson

        Simpson wont be getting dropped, he has been safe all season - that wont change now. One of the most nailed on players for Newcastle, it didn't look that way at the start of the season but all changed now.

    Which of the following would be the best combination?

    There goes teh Newcastle cleansheet. Really can't see them not conceding with no Tiote/Cabaye shielding & no Ba for the ball to stick to up front. Plus QPR seem to have contracted new manager syndrome, they're up for it.
