Mikel Arteta is ruled out for Arsenal’s showdown with Man United. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are fit for the champions, Roger Johnson looks set to return for Wolves, while Martin O’Neill is in line for a defensive boost ahead of the visit of Swansea:

Arsene Wenger gave a substantial injury update this morning ahead of Arsenal’s match with Man United. The Gunners boss revealed Mikel Arteta is definitely out of Sunday’s showdown and conceded he is far from optimistic on the availability of Thomas Vermaelen, with the Belgian a major doubt. Thierry Henry is due to have a test on a calf problem on Saturday, while Wenger also admitted full-backs Kieren Gibbs and Bacary Sagna are two to three weeks away from a return.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones will both be available for Man United for the Emirates clash. The defensive duo missed out in last week’s home win over Bolton but Sir Alex Ferguson revealed this morning they are both fully recovered. Anderson suffered a setback in training and is unavailable.

Harry Redknapp is confident that Jermain Defoe can come into the Spurs side against City on Sunday and have a big say in the title race. Defoe is of course more-or-less guaranteed a place in Spurs’ starting XI with loan star Emmanuel Adebayor unable to play against his parent club. However, it seems that owners of Adebayor do not need to worry about the Togolese striker regaining his place in the side against Wigan the following week, Redknapp said:

With Emmanuel Adebayor here, it’s been a case of Manu and who else up front?

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson is confident that midfielder Graham Dorrans can fill the hole left by Paul Scharner’s likely absence against Stoke tomorrow. Scharner is struggling to recover from an Achilles injury and Dorrans, who has only played a bit part role for the Baggies this season, is looking good to replace the Austrian. Hodgson said:

It’s a chance for Graham Dorrans, who has done well in recent games when he has come on. He is also getting better and better with every training session. He is a quality player. You don’t lose that quality but sometimes you get rusty if you are not playing or have had injuries like he has.

Wigan face a midfield headache with Mohamed Diame on international duty and David Jones doubtful with a calf injury. However manager Roberto Martinez has no other fitness worries with Albert Crusat returning successfully from his back injury against Manchester City on Monday.

Wolves are set to welcome back captain Roger Johnson for their vital midlands derby against Aston Villa on Saturday. Johnson, who was a vital part of the Wolves defence that kept Spurs at bay last weekend, has been feeling the effects of the ankle injury he picked up against Birmingham two weeks ago. Wolves are without a clean-sheet since their stalemate against Aston Villa back in August but could break that run in the reverse fixture this weekend.

Everton gaffer David Moyes will once again have to put a together a makeshift defence for the visit of Blackburn with Tony Hibbert and Phil Jagielka still someway off a return. However, Sylvain Distin is making a good recovery from the injury that he sustained against Spurs and will be given every chance to prove his fitness prior to the Rovers game.

Fabian Delph has returned to old club Leeds from Aston Villa. The midfielder joins up at Elland Road on a twenty-eight day emergency loan deal and pre-empts the deal that will see Johnny Howson join up at Norwich. Paul Lambert confirmed this morning he expect the Leeds skipper to have completed his move to Carrow Road by the weekend.

Reports suggest Ryan Shotton and Rory Delap may be sidelined for Stoke’s game with West Brom tomorrow. With Jermaine Pennant currently out of favour, the Potters could be set to turn to Ben Marshall to solve the right wing berth.

Martin O’Neill received some positive injury news ahead of Sunderland’s home game with Swansea. Wes Brown and Titus Bramble are making strong progress from groin and Achilles injuries respectively and may be set to feature, with O’Neill admitting:

Wes is improving and so is Titus. The news on Wes has been good this week and we’ll see how he is today, as we will with Titus. But Wes, perhaps more than Titus, might have a chance for this weekend. They’re certainly looking better than they were at this time last week.

Not worth it. Fulham would need to keep a clean sheet against newcastle in order for you to just break even. Even with Ba gone, Newcastle still have a lot of goal threat, and Fulham have been very leaky this season.

ok with my injury worries clearing up I need a striker for 8.1 or less to replace Thingy. I know my main rival has put Fletcher in, so I’m avoiding him, and I have Sturridge. I’m leaning towards Zamora atm, any other offers?

Balo is a decent punt, but a risky one. Could come off the bench, could get subbed early, could get sent off (my fingers are crossed 🙂 ). Zamora (Fletcher) are the picks to make for the next few GWs, Balo maybe short-term punt.

Well I had Shotton ahead, but just thinking of changing because Jones is more likely to play the 90mins (potentially even in midfield if I'm lucky) whereas Shotton on bench?

Last minute he said it was only a late fitness test that ruled him out, but article above says he's likely out, so thinking he could make the bench maybe. Sub appearance would be a nightmare.

Mills, Shotton hasn't been confirmed out so I would still start him, Jones will auto-in if he doesn't make it, but latter has very limited CS potential this GW. I would play BAE over Jones, personally, I think MC vs Spurs will be the tighhter of the two games, with poss 1-0 either way or 1-1 result very likely.

And despite home game, there's no way on earth I'd start Drenthe over Bale, regardless of fixs, but maybe that's just me. 🙂 Hope that helps.

Cheers, I need talking out of Drenthe for Bale.

Just Blackburn have got player transfer requests all week so in shambles, just don't see Bale getting points there (like you said should be tight game).

Reckon Shotton will definitely be either starting or out?

Mills, it's a tough call but I would think if he's not fit to start, he's not fit to play, but only Pulis really knows. I'd still start Shotton.

Drenthe could have a blinder, but what are the chances? More likely get subbed early, or come off the bench for one of the least creative teams in the Prem. Bale's got a very tough fixture, of course, but I suspect Spurs will set up to use their pace to counter Citeh quickly, whcih could play well for Bale. If Spurs score, and it's a biggish if, I'd be fairly confident that Bale will be involved in the goal.

Anyway, food for thought, hopefully. Good luck. 🙂

Cheers, the only other problem with hoping Bale does well, is it cancels out Richards in defence as directly opposite them.

I think Shotton with Jones sub does make the most sense.

What fixs are your looking at Doosra? Sorensen/Krul play home/away the same week from next GW through to GW 29, which makes them quite abysmal rotators in my book.

Migolet or Vorm with Krul, or Kenny/Stockdate/Schwarzer with Sorensen.

They have 3 rotation clashes but after GW29 they rotate perfectly. (Sorenson/Krul)

I'm going for a double defence strategy and I fancy Stokes home fixtures. Kompany over Richards is a good shout though. I have 0.4m spare so it's probably worth making the switch, for extra security like you've said.

          Thanks!

    Team for this GW:

    Sorensen
    Enrique - Brown - Senderos
Walters - Sess - Silva - Dempsey (VC)
    Crouch - Aguero (C) - RVP

    Bench - Mignolet........Valencia - Santon - Caulker

Look ok? Main dilemma was choosing between Sorensen/Mignolet and Walters/Valencia.

Defence looks a bit weak tbh. No money for a City defender? Having Crouch and Walters might be overkill when Stoke don't score many goals, I'd prefer Flethcer or Sturridge.

    Differential anyone?

Blimey, we all like a diff or two but my WC team has 10 players with single figure % ownership! 8 of them are under 4%. Bale, Aguero and RVP are the only ones higher than 15.5%.

    Should be fun! 😀

With Vermaelen being a major doubt for the weekend 've decided to swap him for Huth and Aguero for Rooney, leaving me with this wildcard team:

    Schwarzer//Sorenson
    Kompany//Raylor//Huth//Kelly//Caulker
    Lampard(c)//Bale//Walters//Sessegnon//Dyer
    Rooney//RVP//Sturridge

Lampard and Rooney will be swaped for Aguero and Silva in week 24. Thoughts? Crazy having no City attacker for the next 2 weeks?

pretty decent team... Lampard would be the only area of concern... but as you've given him the armband i guess he's your differential/wildpunt....

and you can always afford to swap him or rooney for silva/kun if you change your mind...

I wasn't going to bother with any United attacker, but now it looks like Vermaeln is out for Arsenal so thats a major blow for their defence. Plus they have Stoke at home next week, should get a few goals their, more than city away to Everton anyway.

Pretty sure I've finally settled on a WC team. Feel free to prove me wrong 🙂

I've decimated my defence, booting out Vorm Hennessey Jones BAE and Naylor due to poor fixtures. I haven't touched my midfield and brought in Aguero for Ade. Full team is:

    Krul Mignolet
Huth Senderos Simpson Evans Baines (to be relaced by Kompany next week)
    Silva Bale Valencia Sess Moses
    RVP Aguero Sturridge

I thought Kelly actually looked ok against us on Saturday, at least going forward. Put a few decent crosses in. However Fulham were generally poor at the back and that Stockale fella is very average. I don't think they will get a clean sheet in either of the upcoming home games.
