Hatem Ben Arfa has yet to convince Alan Pardew he is worthy of a first-team start. Sir Alex Ferguson rues his decision to bench Javier Hernandez at Chelsea, Martin O’Neill vows to be patient with Wayne Bridge, while John Obi Mikel returns to training for Chelsea this morning:

Alan Pardew has admitted Hatem Ben Arfa faces a real battle to establish himself in the Newcastle first XI. The Frenchman found himself dropped for last Sunday’s home game against Villa, with Pardew opting for the work-rate of James Perch in midfield instead. With Papiss Demba Cisse joining Demba Ba up front, Ben Arfa’s preferred role, tucked in behind a lone forward, looks out of the question, given Pardew’s penchant for a 4-4-2. The Magpies boss said:

Hatem still hasn’t quite grasped, in my opinion, this Premier League. He’s got unbelievable talent, but he’s not used to it. He’s got to fight now to get in this team. He could still have a massive impact on this season, but we need to see him at his best. He isn’t out of the picture yet.

Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that Javier Hernandez may be set for an increase in game time, after his performance at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Mexican has fallen behind Danny Welbeck in the pecking order this term and has started just two of United’s last eleven league matches but, having climbed off the bench to grab the equaliser at Chelsea, has given his manager plenty to mull over, as Ferguson admitted:

To be honest, I think I should have played Chicharito from the start. When he came on he had them on toast. He really put pressure on them with his movement and positional play. Danny Welbeck is a terrific player and he is going to be a top player, but when Chicharito came on it was a different game.

This seems to raise questions against Welbeck’s first-team prospects, then. He has started four of United’s last six up front and has been the preferred partner for Wayne Rooney up front, but Hernandez’s display and his manager’s subsequent comments raises question marks over his role over the new few gameweeks.

Martin O’Neill is keen to allow Wayne Bridge time to settle in at Sunderland before handing him a start. With the loan signing some way short of match fitness, the Black Cats boss is prepared to utilise Kieran Richardson at left-back until Bridge is ready to step up. O’Neill alluded to Bridge’s previous loan spell last term as the reason behind his thinking.

He is just settling down. I am mindful he was thrown in at the deep end last year. At West Ham it was thrust upon him. I would like him to see the surroundings a bit more. It was pleasing to get into the Norwich game, that was encouraging enough for him.

John Obi Mikel has returned to training for Chelsea today. The Nigerian has been sidelined since the gameweek 17 draw at Spurs, missing a run of games that have seen Andre Villas-Boas’ side pick up just two wins from seven. With the likes of Ramires injured, Frank Lampard a doubt, and Michael Essien still finding his feet since returning from long-term injury, Mikel -if he proves his fitness- will give the Blues a midfield boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton.

FPL-wise, last night’s goalless draw at Anfield saw Glen Johnson yet again lead the way for bonus points. With Jose Enrique missing out with a hamstring problem, Johnson moved to left-back, with Martin Kelly stepping in on the other flank, and his display once more stood out in the EA SPORTS PPI. Johnson grabbed the maximum 3 for the fourth time this season and has now picked up 14, more than any Liverpool player. Clearly, his displays from full-back are ideal for the bonus system, with a combination of defensive work and crossing proving pivotal in his allocation, as the home side recorded their third clean sheet in the last four.

Liverpool vs Everton on Gameweek 26 postponed. Looking to bring in any one of Sunderland back four for Jose Enrique.

Bardsley or O' Shea? Which is your preference and why?

if you think by getting rid of enrique is planning long term & not short term you are wrong! keep enrique & bench him for 26 as you will want him back for 28 which i guess will cost you alot more than you get for selling him?

Hmm... you have a point there. At the moment, I own Kelly, Jose Enrique (injured), Richards, Evans and Ryan Taylor (injured). Two injuries there. Sunderland recent clean sheets have been tempting a little bit.

Or alternatively... take out Ryan Taylor for Bardsley?

re-reading i sound like a pr*ck, sorry about that! 🙂 its so hard to call cs @ the moment. what i found helped me was the season ticker, line up the clubs you have @ present in a row & then make sure you have 3 decent fixtures each week. in my wc (some gambles in here as im chasing a lead) i went:
kompany, simpson, enrique, taiwo & senderos, senderos will be changed to evans shortly & i have 3 fixtures each gameweek that im happy to play. just a thought to maybe help you

Bardsley as more of a goal threat, but depending how much you'll lose selling him, I'd be tempted to hold on. No fixture also means double fixture later, and Liverpool's fixtures don't look bad at all in a few weeks time.

You, too, have a point there but I'd have to consider and see if I do have enough players on Gameweek 26 to bench Jose Enrique. At the moment, I own Kelly, Jose Enrique (injured), Richards, Evans and Ryan Taylor (injured). Two injuries there, and Sunderland's recent run of clean sheets look very tempting there to invest in any one of their defenders. Unless I take out Kelly... not sure if I do have enough funds to do that.

I'm 0.1m short of Valencia > Dempsey, so raising some extra ££ by swapping Walters > Siggy. It's a tough call as I'm in the cup final of my work league so trying to max points this week... seems a bit high risk taking a hit though 🙁

Manutd at home to Liverpool. Liverpool a team that got shutout to Spurs at home. Manutd a team that came from 3-0 down to Chelsea at Home.

Valencia v Liverpool Leftback that isn't Enrique.....

I'd opt to drop another player 🙂

Hmm.. I thought Valencia woudl kill Chelsea with a LB that wasn't Cole, but it didn't quite work out.

I could just afford a double tranfser of Walters/Sess > Dempsey/Siggy but that would mean I would struggle to upgrade Best > Ba later on.

Enrique is not confirmed out. Johnson/Kelly are really good replacements anyway. You failed to mention that Liverpool kept Spurs to 1 chance the whole game yesterday. It will most likely be few goals and tight. Valencia to Dempsey looks good as I imagine it's for more than this week anyway.

Having playwed my spanking new WCT this week, I dont see too many changes to make. Dzeko will prob have to go at some point due to rotation risk, but who to replace with.

Thoughts turn to Yakubu: rested after 3 games out and at home to QPR, could spell another 4 goal haul!

Ok, so I fell 3k after a score of 77, haven't quite managed to crack the top 50k just yet, hovering on the outskirts.
I guess having RVP, Aguero and Richards my only players getting above 3 points made things difficult, and with McClean on the bench..

Ah well, time to fiddle before next week, what do you think:

    Vorm (Sorensen)
    Richards, Kelly, Caulker (Simpson, Taiwo)
McClean, Silva, Bale, Dempsey (C) (Valencia)
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

When you look at the stats, City, Utd, Spurs, Liverpool are the four tightest defenses. Monday night games are often low scoring, meek affairs. I was more than comfortable playing BAE/Enrique in the hope of a 1-0 either way. Didn't quite work out, but half did!

One step forward two steps back. It seems like whenever I have a half decent week, and claw some of the lead back, the next week the leader regains all of the points he lost plus more! Its getting a bit demoralizing. He stretched his lead back to 73 points last night. Not massive I know, but its been around that for weeks now. I don't seem to be getting anywhere! I keep telling myself that it is only a matter of time, as the leader doesn't seem to be a serious player, but, i'm running out of time!! Any tips for how to overhaul him?

I'm planning Raylor and Walters for Caulker and Siggy then Ba (or Cisse) for Best next week.

My much vaunted fulham/ stoke rotation hasn't worked out, so I plan to get rid of their defenders over the next few weeks.

Ba rocketing in price is making me seriously reconsider my planned Keane to Yakubu rtansfer (plan was to bring Ba in the week after).

Planning on using my 2 frees this week to do Keane to Ba (despite his poor fixture), to be funded by Valencia to 6.4 midfielder.

Who's the best bet in that price range? Taarabt worth a shot?

Yeah I imagined there only being a small amount of active players left. When you use this website alot it gives the impression that we are the only ones who care about getting our teams right but clearly not. I have played FF for 6, 7 seasons and only got into this site in the past few months so there will be plenty people active until the end.

Already used my FT a few days ago to swap BAE for Kompany, so I'd have to take a 4-pt hit to do any more transfers. Dzeko got me the points this GW but with Balo back in contention soon he's a rotation risk and my defence isn't too fantastic.

Depends on where you are in the overall rank. 97 saw me jump over 4000 rivals. It is really competitive in the top 50K. every point is huge! ie, Not having a TOT or LIV defender cost me almost 2K in ranking.

I’m thinking Fletcher is currently the weak point of my team. I’d like Ba, but he’s now to expensive to do a straight swap. So should I:

    A) Get Cisse instead?
    B) Downgrade another player (e.g. Sess -> McClean, or maybe Silva -> ???) to fund getting Ba in?
