The enigmatic architect of QPR’s euphoric promotion campaign, Adel Taarabt’s haul of 19 goals and 16 assists last season marked him out as the prime Fantasy Premier League (FPL) target from this term’s graduate teams. Undoubtedly skilful, the reproaches of selfishness and defensive negligence torpedoed his two top-flight seasons with Spurs but, with a starting berth for the Hoops seemingly assured, many backed the Moroccan magician to silence the doubters and light up the league.

Though initially priced at a thought-provoking 6.5, a lacklustre start to the campaign saw Taarabt’s investors running for cover long before his transportthemed fall from grace under Neil Warnock hit the back pages. Banished to the bench in November and assuming the role of bit-part player under the old regime, the Moroccan –with no goals or assists to his name- has even made Victor Moses seem particularly prolific this term.

Returning from the African Cup of Nations last weekend, Taarabt was immediately installed to the first-team by Mark Hughes. Partnering Shaun Wright-Phillips on the flanks against Wolves in an aggressive 4-4-2, he emerged with great credit from a threatening display by a ten-man QPR. His new manager was clearly delighted with the Moroccan’s contribution and, having pulled Taarabt out of his hat, Hughes appears little inclined to employ him as a bench-warmer over a run of games (bla FUL EVE bol) that should provide ample opportunity for attacking returns.

New acquisitions Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have already made their mark in a QPR side that suffered earlier in the season from a glut of creators and a dearth of reliable finishers, and Taarabt looks set to benefit from having a more clinical outlet for his technical wizardry. With his price down to 5.8, Taarabt is now in direct competition with Joey Barton (5.8) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (5.9) for those looking to invest in QPR’s midfield over this favourable run.

Barton’s holding role may put him at a disadvantage from an FPL perspective in a setup that promises attack from the flanks, and with Taarabt presumably restored to direct free kicks, Barton’s potential looks more limited under the new regime. With two assists in his last four games, Wright-Phillips is doing his best to dispel his customary aura of frenetic impotence, but whilst Taarabt never looks far away from conjuring up a piece of magic, Wright-Phillips never looks far away from falling over his own feet.

With the wildcard window a homogenising influence on our squads, picking the right differentials has never been more important, and, with just 3% ownership, the new dawn at Loftus Road may well prove beneficial for this summer’s forgotten FPL favourite.

Any scouts around? Been thinking about the site a bit lately, personally I'd love a couple of changes to the forum system to be considered. I thought one or two of the functions on the Members Beta test were pretty sound but they seem to have been laid aside. Especially functions where RMT's could be filtered (if people want to answer great, if they dont they should have the opportunity to filter them), off topic stuff should also have a filter system too ideally.

I'd really like a Members only forum, personally I feel that it would reward the existing members by cutting down on all the gazillion posts, it would also increase revenue for the site too so win win for all concerned. For my part I would be far more willing to give someone advice or feedback if I knew they had contributed to the site. £12.50 isnt a lot to ask for a year, especially given the expansion of the site and the quality of the articles, if people dont want to contribute thats fine, its their money and their perogative, I just would rather 'chat' to other folk.

I dont expect everyone to agree with me in wishing for a Members Only sub-group, its just my own personal opinion. In a nutshell I think that as the site expands and more and more users are coming on here (some positive, some not so positive) then the opportunity to both increase revenue and provide a better environment for loyal members should be considered.

Only discovered the site this year (will be signing up next year), and although the articles are good i mainly visit for the forum. Lots of people who have played a lot of FPL and have interesting incites, but if the members were in a separate forum and all that remained were non-member comments (RMT's etc) - i doubt that i would visit with any regularity and therefore would probably not sign up next year. Basically i'm saying that i think the open forum is a good pull for new visitors....

I would say that the forum structure is not conducive to composing detailing (read lengthy) posts, because you know they'll simple be lost in a few moments on the previous page.

It would be nice to have some flagged / bookmarked articles to discuss topics at more length, and a separate article for general banter.

Not necessarily at all, plenty of decent posters wouldnt spend their time in a Members Only forum - I just think having the option to do so would be nice. Particularly on matchdays.

Besides many of the posters I consider to be some of the better ones either dont post at all any more or just use twitter, if a Members Only forum brings some of them back then its preferable to them not posting at all surely?

I think the link from FPL just brought an influx of people and the set up of the site isnt conducive to that many people as the pages go by too quick. Perhaps a members site is the answer but surely bad posters are as likely to pay for it as good and it will eventually get equally busy as this one.

But at least it would provide more revenue for the site owners (who I feel should be rewarded for doing a decent job). Not an ideal solution but it would work in the medium term.

A 'Hide Poster' (like on Facebook) function might do the job too, but is a bit meaner I suppose.

Just throwing ideas out for consideration, I dont expect these suggested changes to happen but I do hope they are taken on board.

A rating system may work so people can vote up people who give good answers or a separate forum for frequently asked questions like "What are you doing with Huth ?" which has been asked 1000 times today.

They had that in the Members Beta test, only problem with that system is that it has the potential to become petty - people getting minus marks because so and so doesnt like them despite the quality of their posts, and the opposite applies too.

Could be a way of doing it I suppose.

Well how about a way of rating the posts written so it would be a way of sorting past the dross ? Also maybe an incentive to do well researched in depth posts.

Hello Attila...you make some good suggestions, IMO, the powers that be a are a little too precious and don't respond well to criticism, even if it is constructive in nature. Of late, you rarely see decent posts...who would bother to take the time to research and analyse, when the posts are lost in the ether within 15 minutes. The forum format does not lend itself to intelligent analysis. Even the articles have given way to quantity rather than quality of late...the technical analysis articles that Mark and Sir Paulos used to write are conspicuous by their absence. It is turning into a site for esoteric murmurings and iconoclastics are not welcome.

Well I agree with some of that, I do think the articles are going through a little transition period but they are generally maintaining a high quality. Some of the new stuff is excellent too.

But the main point I agree with is your comment about well researched posts being the rarity these days, its a true comment. Personally I used to quite like going off if I had 15 mins and looking up players positions with heatmaps etc and sharing the results, now I cant be arsed with the sharing the results bit, I know it would just get lost, I'm sure others are the same.

Let me just state I am a non member but been a site member for many years.

Despite that, I agree with ATB, as i think the enhancements have failed to improve the forum aspects of the site as not a lot of reading seems to be done - simply questions posed - therefore a filter for several topics (akin to FISO) would allow choice of which current "filter" to join and put your relevant post or simply continue to pile into 18pages of comments - how many of us go back to page 1 to read thro?

This may also allow a members only option where they can discus, share info in "private" whilst also continue to add value to other forum topics, eg GW 25 Rate my Team / Transfer forum, Articles, Members Forum. I think the Articles could stay as is, whilst one article GW25 could just remain Live for a week - pushed at top of Page and mods shoot any RMTs posted within articles?

That would not be elitist as everyone gets the opportunity to become a member - I chose not to join simply as i'm a tight mofo - well more due to the fact that I like the forums and articles but stats are available in many places, however stats are historic and projecting fantasy returns is not an exact science & i hate projections!!

If there was a separate members forum then i would be more comfortable in becoming a member.

In all seriousness Attila, I agree with both your suggestions - option to filter through posts & a members-only forum. It's my first year of FPL and discovered this site towards the end of the 2011 and while it's been an extremely valuable resource, it's also quite difficult to sort through pages and pages of comments and figure out who provides reliable/useful/interesting information (I blame this for my terrible ranking also!).

As an example, the dead-zone last night was priviliged to have Applebonkers chime in on a post about Chelsea and whether or not they can be classed as being crap this year (you can find it here - http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2012/02/07/frisking-the-fixtures-gameweek-twenty-five-2/comment-page-7/#comment-2703524). AB's expanded argument came a good 3 hours after the original post and had disappeared into the comments' blackhole by then. I reckon similar feedback would be very useful for everyone, most of all for relative newbies to the game.

Year on year improvements to the site are discussed at length. Standard forum layout, members forums, chat windows etc.

I'm still in 2 minds about a members only forum. The problem with it are obvious, it splits the community.

In terms of the features which are currently switched off, RMT filter, 'like' buttons have been sidelined due to the load they put on the server but there is every intention to reintroduce these at some point.

It's down to Mark to let you guys know what the plans are for next year, but I guess that he needs to be circumspect as possible and not promise what cannot be delivered.

Interesting thought, but i have a split opinion of the Members only forum. I have been on this site for 5 years now, but I have never once paid for Membership. The reason being that I have never played FPL for monetary purposes. In fact, in India , online betting is not even allowed.
But on the other hand, I can understand your position on wanting a Members only forum. Some of the posts are simply ridiculous out here.
      Well I'll live either way.

I would be more worried as a Walcott owner as his good fortune WON'T continue. AOC isn't left footed he's just better than Theo. And don't count out Walcott brain-freeze or a sketchy ankle episode. For players of Ox's caliber things always have a way of working themselves out. I'm keeping, the nerve of you people trying to play the kid like he some sort of Welbeck or O'Hara...lol.

I'm thinking he'll be given rest when Gervinho returns. It surely has to be very tempting for Wenger to play Walcott and the Ox on the break away at Sunderland? Bloody frightening prospect!

of course, but I don't think this is the game. If they jump on them early yes he will be the first rotated out. But the fans have already sent a message, f*ck with him and we will get in your ass Wenger. Hence the 72 minute appearances, I believe trying to keep him fresh for Milan (15th). A Sunday (12th) gameday would have been more problematic. But the 11th gives him 3 solid days rest before AC Milan. This scenario makes the RVP (c) this week a bit nerve-wracking.

Bench McClean, he will get no love against Arsenal. Nothing goo can happen with him playing 90+ tonight and then turning around and playing again against Arsenal. Hey youprobably did like me last week and had him on the bench but playing him this week won't get the points from last week (if that's indeed what happened).

Last thing MON would have wanted, extra time. Sunderland playing at 3pm this Saturday.

I wouldn't have thought of captaining if he had the 12:45 game curse...I'll let the casuals sink their hopes and dreams on that United v Pool fix. Good keepers, quality midfield & front line. Normally your defence would be too but Liverpool fixtures are a bit guff plus the free week for the Carling Cup. Spurs fixtures taking a dip also so doubling up might not be ideal. Raylor injured is no good to you for now and Bosingwa is a ticking timebomb on the pitch.

Whats the deal with G Cahill? Surely he'll be getting the nod from AVB from now on. Luiz is such a liability.

Exactly. I could sit tight but Enrique's fixtures are awful and he's now an injury risk. Narrowed it down to Taiwo, Bardsley or Luiz

Luiz could be worth it but i don't really fancy Chelsea defense and a slight rotation risk. I like his goal threat though

Perhaps the best thing is to sit tight, save a transfer to have two next week and reassess the defences. Means riding Enrique's price fall but that's not important this far into the season.

I don't think Sunderland playing an extra 30 minutes tonight will have a bearing on how well they perform or how 'tired' they are against Arsenal. I could be totally wrong, but that's what I think.

They will have played 120 mins and only have 2 days rest whereas Arsenal have had 7 days rest, it will have an impact, but the result on Sat could still go either way

Yeah maybe not. It can go either way in these situations. Players can be spent after the game and struggle to be at their best 3 days later or they can just continue where they left off without fatigue being a problem.

Do you think MON will give them a day off tomorrow and light training Friday? Genuine question, I don't know how PL sides handle midweek fixtures.

Playing 90 tonight plus another 30 and the possible dispiriting affect of a defeat on pens, and I'd expect some sort of hangover on Saturday.

Aye I think the possible defeat will be the biggest factor if it happens. I don't know exactly how Sunderland training sessions work, but I'm sure they would have been having a heavy training session anyway had they not played this game.

Right, and it doesn't getting tiring standing playing defense in your own half either...

And it doesn't always translate into physical tiredness but into mistakes on the ball, stupid challenges, panicked play in the box and most importantly...injuries.

Capello isnt stupid either, perfect time for him to get out with the least amount of hassle. I for 1 am very disapointed to see him go, i think he has been great for england with what he had at his disposal. He also knows he wont win it so why tanish his record further?

      hardly put faith in:
      Walker
      King
      Dawson
      Lennon
      Parker
      Defoe
whilst also really seemed happy with
      Crouch
      David James
Sol Campbell..........to name but a few

Whilst Spurs filled with stars he has still Progressed with young lads Livermore & Rose

Silly post.........Harry is English and has been one of the most consistent English Managers in EPL for a decade so he deserves the opportunity - but will he bring success - NO but nobody else has or will as the players cannot perform to the same technical ability as others.
