Another gameweek fast approaches and we’ve been feverishly beavering away to update our Watchlist rankings. Fantasy managers can see the fruits of our labours in the right hand toolbar with a short round-up after the break…

Goalkeepers

With the top three keepers holding steady, we focus instead on a quartet of main risers. Ali Al-Habsi moves closer to the top on the back of Wigan’s kind run of fixtures, though with a single clean sheet since gameweek 3, he’ll perhaps need plenty of save points to justify his lofty position. Michel Vorm is a little further back, as Swansea’s schedule begins to ease up.

Two Premier League veterans make a significant leap up the rankings. Mark Schwarzer shows no signs of fading and, now back from a spinal injury, makes a welcome return to our thoughts ahead of some tempting fixtures. Blackburn’s upcoming schedule is promising enough to see Paul Robinson pop his head around the corner.

Defenders

Manchester City keep a grasp of the top defensive spot with Micah Richards this time filling the void, as slight injury doubts hover over Vincent Kompany. Of the two, we tend to favour the Belgian due to his guaranteed game time, but Richards, for now, holds the fitness card and top spot as a result.

Budget defenders pretty much dominate the upward tick, though Ashley Cole is the exception to the rule. Having served his one-match ban against United on Sunday, the left-back has four favourable fixtures on the horizon and is, arguably, the only fit defender for Chelsea with a secure spot in the back-four right now.

A matter of millions down the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) spectrum and you’ll find a host of defenders on the up. Jonny Evans continues to offer a cut-price Manchester United option, Philippe Senderos (if fit) allows budget Fulham backing, while Angel Rangel and Taye Taiwo both offer promise from full-back for the promoted sides.

Midfielders

Our biggest mover in the centre of the pack is also one of the cheapest possibly imaginable. Coming in at just 4.6, James McClean is one of the best bargains around right now. Averaging 7.3 points per start under Martin O’Neill, the young winger has picked up bonus in five of his six appearances in the Black Cats first XI, with his game seeming tailor-made for the EA SPORTS PPI system.

An extra pocket full of change may see the Nordic charm of Gylfi Sigurdsson tempt you into backing his undoubted skills. I was persuaded and personally backed this horse (eighth person in the world to buy him, I find myself repeating to anyone who’ll listen). The on-loan midfielder has returned attacking points in three of his four games for the Welsh club and with set-pieces also in his locker, is averaging 6.25 points per game so far.

Again, still very much in the budget ballpark, are Victor Moses and Adel Taarabt. Each have ridden waves akin to a bandwagon but the talent and the fixtures coincide just sweetly enough that considering them once again might not be so crazy. Might not.

Jon Walters is one of the biggest losers this week. The Irishman has lost his ‘Out of Position’ spot of late, dropping back into midfield for Stoke, and with attacking returns in just one of his last nine gameweeks, his form has been poor, to say the least.

Hatem Ben Arfa also plummets in our estimations. While his skill is unquestionable, the Frenchman’s work-rate has seen him fall out of favour with Alan Pardew and a starting role looks far from secure. With James Perch getting the nod ahead of Ben Arfa in the recent win over Villa, he is likely to struggle to regain a starting place, with the role of impact sub perhaps his best bet.

Forwards

Demba Ba is officially back. It didn’t take him long- just half an hour was needed against Villa before he returned to goalscoring ways on Sunday afternoon. With great fixtures and a half season of strong form behind him, there wasn’t any doubt he’d reclaim third place. Papiss Cisse has also joined our reckoning for similar reasons – a brilliant debut winner saw him carry over his Bundesliga exploits with Freiburg.

With his side reeling from a 7-1 defeat at the Emirates, it’s evident that Blackburn don’t have the most resilient of defences. They’ll be welcoming Yakubu back to the fray with open arms this weekend, with the Nigerian’s goals crucial to their bid for survival.

Finally, continuing our backing of the budget crop, it’s hard to ignore Danny Graham, who starts a favourable run of games with a home clash against Norwich. Paul Lambert’s side may have increased their Carrow Road resilience, with a couple of recent home clean sheets, but the Canaries have still conceded in every away game so far this season.

Graham has done well, but when I look at the next 6 on the ticker, I just don't see Swansea's favourable run of games.

Sure, Norwich at home, but after that it doesn't look that favourable to me.

Very dubious that you were actually the 8th person to buy Siggy (sorry). If you looked at his NTI immediately after buying, it presumably wouldn't have registered your purchase given that the numbers on the transfer page update every 15 minutes or so.

So actually, there were *at least* eight people to buy Siggy before you.

Agreed that it was the most irrelevant post ever.

Not sure about the latest on Terry, but if he's fit for the Everton game then Cahill will be back on the bench. If not, then it's hard to tell. AVB played Ivan and Luiz at CB against Swansea, so it's possible that Cahill is 4th choice and the only change from the United game will be Cole in for Cahill.

ok folks a couple of decisions made while I was out this afternoon

    1) Picking Tarrabt over Siggy would be mad and even I am not THAT crazy

    2) I will have little or no internet access from Friday until Monday night/Tuesday morning. By that point Ba is likely to be 8 million. On this basis I will accept that I boobed by not getting Ba on wc and opt for Dave instead, leaving me enough money to swap Taiwo out for a Liverpool/Arsenal defender after GW29.

Anyone else who failed to draft Ba in thinking the same?

    Vorm – Krul

    Kompany – Senderos – Evans – ShawX – Simpson

Bale – Silva – Sess – Val– McClean

    RVP – Dzeko – Ba

Already used my FT for BAE to Kompany. Been doing well lately, teams below me in the league I want to win have a generally poor midfield.

Overall would like Dempsey in and Kun for Dzeko but got to hope this week.

Any thoughts/good advice for captain? Made the perfect choices the past 3 weeks but this week it’s going to be a tough one.

You dont think Dzeko could be a good punt. I've got him as VC. He'll know Balotelli will be back in GW26 and needs to make his stamp on the game to keep his place.

I actually had him as captain for around...10 minutes, then got scared and changed back to RVP incase I didn't somehow get a chance to get back on FF and he failed miserably.

The biggest concern for me is that the vast majority have Aguero over Dzeko (captain or not) so I'd even be glad if a repeat of last week happened and Dzeko fell short 2 points of Kun again.

Will likely go for who I suspect those in the mini-league below me will to be as safe as possible, then perhaps take some risks later on when it's more viable.

Good points. I've only got an 11 point lead in my ML - drastically reduced these past few weeks - but few have either Dzeko or Aguero or even Dempsey for that matter. Most will go RVP.

mmm.. I'll need to mull that over!

Seems to make sense, he's brilliant at home but it was just his last performance (admittedly against a fantastic defence of Liverpool) that has made me question his chances of scoring big against Newcastle.

Will likely be a last minute, gut choice. They usually work out well...just hope I'm 4th time lucky 🙂

        No Dempsey in my team.

Only option I thought was taking a 4-pt hit for Silva to Dempsey (wouldn't lose any money since I took him out and brought him in, so he's remained at the same price).

I've started convincing myself now though that Dempsey may not do brilliantly and it all could work to my advantage...

0 CS all season and only half way down the rankings for saves, just not worth the money. For around the same price you can get Mignolet, Schwarzer, Foster, Hennessey and even Kenny or Ruudy who all better options

Make any sense to bench Ba, swap Dyer for Siggy, and take a 4 point hit to do so?

Looks good, except do Enrique to Clichy/Richards
      Or you could do Shotton>Caulker/Rangel
One of those you should defo do!

Seems like in GW28 United and Spurs fixtures become easier. Lookis like i'll have to plan for Nani and/or Rooney and possibly the return of The Barndoor or DAD(DIE ADEBAYOR DIE).

I'm sticking with Tony V and Evans as my United coverage. Can't really tinker around with a front 3 of Ba, Aguero and RVP

So all the love and some mild knee jerking for Taarabt is because of a couple of fantastic off target strike during the game against wolves?

It's more to do with Blackburn being without Givet, probably Samba and Lowe. He was on corners and free kicks and Hughes has been talking him up for a central role. If you are tempted by him, this is the week to get him, IMO.

Nope just saying how negative he's being about Taarabt.

Some managers work using stats like Mark and Some work based upon performance like Granville. They are 2 different creatures.

It's very late but getting out the shoe horn and trying to get RVP in could be a good idea. Not for this game week but soon & for the rest of your life.
